Got my .95kg fork springs in yesterday. Where's a good place to get 15/20w fork oil?

My rear wheel lost traction for the first time today.

It was quite the "oh shit" moment.

How did you manage that? I've have a few close calls coming around turns where there were some loose rocks that I didn't see. I didn't like that very much.

There was a spot on a turn where the ice had made a mess of an asphalt patch.

The bike made about a 10 degree rotation towards the turn. If I had quicker reflexes I probably would've had the wrong reaction and wrecked it. Lucky for me I'm slow.

What do you guys do for tires here? I'm thinking of buying online to save some money, but I don't know anywhere that will install them on the rim for me.

I found a vendor online that will sell me a set of Michelin Pilot Road 2's for $260, free shipping, and I'd like to pay someone around 20-30 bucks a tire to mount and balance them. Are there any shops around Raleigh that will do that if I bring them in from somewhere else?

Cycle Gear charges $30/tire, but you have to take the wheels off yourself and bring them in.

They did the last set that I bought there, but do you know if they'll mount tires purchased elsewhere?

The 30 is if you bring in your own. They charge 20 for tires they sell.

i'm thinking about offering him $1500 for this, what do you guys think?

Blue 1993 Honda CB 750 Nighthawk CB750sc in Great Condition!
37k Miles. Runs Strong!
New clutch cable, front and rear brakes, front wheel bearings. 2000 miles left on oil change! No leaks whatsoever!
Vance and Hines 4-1 Megaphone Exhaust with new baffle! Great sound without pissing off the neighbors!
Tank slightly chipped and all this thing needs is a speedometer cable (broke about 25 miles ago) and a seat latch!

His is an '02 - last of the first gen's, before Suzuki really started skimping on stuff. Check the classifieds thread in here, he's got a pretty good price tag on it.

^5x

that's about the same price that i'm seeing around here for similar sv650s. good luck with the sale.

i decided to pass on the nighthawk and save up few more pennies. sv650, dl650, or fz6 are at the top of my list. i'm going to have to wait for my tax refund before i can do anything but kick the tires one those bikes for now.

"You can't help it. It's a reflex. You stick out your hand when you fall — it's better to stop the descent with your palm than your face, right? That's fine when you're ambling down the street, but add an extra 80 mph and the weight of a motorcycle to the momentum equation and the bones in your paw might not take the strain very well. They could shift, buckle — even snap. What you need is an exoskeleton. If you know Tony Stark, you might be able to get something custom. For the rest of us, there's the Knox Handroid, a Kevlar-, kangaroo-hide-, and, yes, exoskeleton-reinforced motorcycle gauntlet. Thermoplastic urethane spines run down the outside of each finger and flex with your digits. To keep the armor in place, a ratchet system cinches 19 strands of stainless steel wire, spreading the pressure across your entire forearm. Then, when the pavement tries to persuade your bones to move beyond their comfort zone, the Handroid answers no. That's the reflex you're looking for."

^^^ cool, good to hear that my price is about right.

DL650 is a very different bike than an SV or an FZ6. It's much more useful day to day, but not very performance oriented.

^^ nah. There are some things you could do, I guess, but it's more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. Plus, this way, I could put the stalks back on in just a couple minutes if I wanted to.

That's actually very true. The proper reaction is to stay relaxed on the bars and stay on the throttle.

Turns out that my rear brakes have been metal-on-metal for an undetermined amount of time. I'm semi-proud that I didn't notice while riding.

ive had the bandit 1250 for over a week now and this thing hauls! the previous owner installed a handle bars riser so it sits really neutral with no leaning over.

I remember reading an article in cycle world where the dude was talking about hoping on a bandit 1200 and rolled on in 2nd as he pulled out of a parking lot. He said the front wheel got light before he hit 3k RPM. Damn that sounds fun

Legal or not legal: using the turn-off area of a highway to pass when traffic has stopped.

I figure "not," but just curious.

I don't know if my bike is unique in this respect, but the backing plate for the pad is completely smooth, and didn't mess anything up. I hardly ever used it, too.

I don't know what the previous owner did to wear it down so quickly. The fronts still have ~1/4 left

Quote :
"^back up to a hill"

believe it or not, there's no hills nearby to accommodate such a maneuver, at least not with out attracting a lot of unwanted attention. I'll probably end up getting some ramps or something. I didn't make it to see the bike this weekend. I called him to let him know I was still serious but couldn't make it, as the signal to noise ratio on craigslist is pretty low. hopefully he still has it next weekend.

After years of talk I finally did it. A pic of my new (to me) FZ6! Actually ts a 2005 with 3002 miles on it. The guy also gave me a jacket, gloves, tank bag, new battery, 4 quarts of oil and some other knick knacks.

Unloading it from my truck by myself was super sketchy. (I really only know 2 people here, one was in Poland, the other was busy and couldn't help. ). ProTip: Don't put the ladder/stool so close to the back of the truck so that by the time the bars are over the end of the tailgate you have somewhere to go. Also, put it in gear so you can use the clutch to feather it down the ramp. I'm sure I looked like a monkey fucking a football to anyone watching, but whatever, I got it down with out dropping it.
