DAMN YOU!!!Argh, I want a 9mm AR handgun.[Edited on October 21, 2008 at 4:12 PM. Reason : I guess we'll call it a handgun.]
10/21/2008 4:11:13 PM
^^ very cool
10/21/2008 4:30:28 PM
that thing looks like ridiculous amounts of fun
10/21/2008 4:30:48 PM
Oh, it's more fun than one person should have, short of Class 3, which it will be once I send off for my SBR papers I'll probably be at PDHSC sometime this week or weekend testing some new handloads, so if anyone wants to play, post up. I'm always up for sharing toys and being shared with.
10/22/2008 2:55:30 PM
^I'm down for some range time
10/22/2008 6:06:16 PM
how much did that run?i want one.[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 6:38 PM. Reason : d]

I am down for some range time. Let me know when you are heading out somewhere. Eagle 1 would let me use more of my toys....

^&^^^ I think I'm going to go tomorrow afternoon, probably right after lunch, around 1. ^^ I've got over 1k in it. By far, the single most expensive gun I've ever bought/built .223 pistols can be built for much cheaper - most of the frills and expense are in the special upper/bolt, mag well adapter, and recoil buffer needed to run it in 9mm. The only thing I still want to get for it is this - THEN it will be completely badass.
10/22/2008 10:40:13 PM
i'd rather have a pistol caliber sbr, unless it's 10-13" barrel .223.[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 11:52 PM. Reason : hell 9mm sbr with a real can on it is $sweet$]
10/22/2008 11:51:59 PM
Good luck with the SBR paper...don't get your hopes up too high. They like to hit the rejection button 99.999% of the time.
10/23/2008 12:11:08 AM
Unless you have something that specifically disqualifies you or you screw up the application, it's like shall-issue for CCH permits - they have to. The only hangup around here is that the Wake Co. Sheriff won't sign NFA stuff, so you have to form a trust and acquire your items in your trust. A trust doesn't require signoff or fingerprints and stuff, just a clean record, so it's the only option in Wake.I've got mine all done up and filled out, I just have to figure out where I'm gonna get $200...I also see a can in the future, but that's another grand or so that I'll have to pull out of my magical ass.[Edited on October 23, 2008 at 9:42 AM. Reason : .]
10/23/2008 9:40:25 AM
^So, what is the point of having all that?
10/23/2008 2:03:19 PM
supressors protect hearing.
10/23/2008 2:21:02 PM
hahahaha true!
10/23/2008 3:00:48 PM
For the SBR papers, it just means that I can put that 6" pistol upper on a receiver with a stock, legally. Otherwise,I could end up earning a 10-year vacation to a Federal "pound-me-in-the-ass" penitentiary, to the tune of about $250k, if I built one without the tax stamp. As AR's go, a barrel has to be 16" or greater to be considered a regular, title I weapon. Anything shorter, and it's a class 3 short-barreled rifle, which requires a $200 tax stamp and ATF approval unless you build one like I have and use a "pistol" lower. This means you can build it with the short barrel, but it can't have a stock attached, and that lower can never have been a rifle before.Suppressors and MG's have the same basic requirements - a $200 tax and special paperwork/background checks, but for a SBR, you're just paying to register an existing lower as one so that you can put < 16" barrels on a rifle receiver. To answer the actual question, it makes it a lot more comfortable to shoot if it has a stock attached. It also gains some intrinsic "coolness", because it's an NFA item, and therefore, out of the ordinary.[Edited on October 23, 2008 at 3:55 PM. Reason : .]

I know all about the trust work around...don't be surprised if someone comes knocking at your door. If I were you, I would talk to a lawyer. I was going that route and was talked out of it. let me know how it goes!
10/23/2008 3:53:53 PM
I've known several folks who did that, and had no trouble, and took less than a couple months to approve in almost every case. It's not illegal, though it's sort of a loophole. It's just the only way to get NFA in counties where the sheriff won't sign. It's not like being a FFL either, in that they can't just barge in and check on your title II items. If someone talked you out of it, then they were either bullshitting you, or weren't aware of how the laws are set up. A trust is a perfectly valid and legal way to own title II equipment. In short, if you want NFA in Wake county, there is nothing legally preventing you from acquiring the items through a trust. The only downside is that you don't actually own them, the trust does. The upside is that the trust route is MUCH quicker than the individual paperwork route as far as time to approval goes. If you were thinking twice about a can or sbr/sbs, then start a trust. for non-MG items, Quicken Willmaker will do the trick. It takes about 10 minutes, you get it notarized, and it's a legal trust. For MG's I would prefer to personally own them, just because of their value.[Edited on October 23, 2008 at 4:05 PM. Reason : will keep you posted once that goes through though]
10/23/2008 4:04:27 PM
PDHSC is anti trust for some reason. Maybe because they already have their NFA items? Think about it, how does Blackwater have racks of M4 carbines in their armory? They are a corporation, a trust works the same way its a stand in for a person to limit liability. If ATF sells you ( or your trust) the stamp, go for it.

Anyone know how to date a Remington 700? I got one a few years back that I'm thinking about selling. There is a 64 stamped into the barrel and I was wondering if that was any correlation to the year the barrel was manufactured. Also, any idea of the value on a 700 in NRA grade "very good" condition?
10/25/2008 3:45:07 PM
it will have more to do with barrel length/weight, ss or blued, caliber, stock, adl or bdl ( floor plate or blind mag) than the date will. I think the shotguns are dated by a letter code on the barrel, but the rifles may be completely different. Remington can probbably tell you, but a 700 action is a 700 action, unlike the Winchesters, people will give their left nut for a pre 64 M70.
10/26/2008 11:14:59 AM
Right. I just wanted to date it for selling purposes. I got a good response to the question here: message_topic.aspx?topic=458612&page=29#12205630It looks like it is a 1980 and I already knew it was a BDL. I'll probably be putting it up for sale pretty soon. On another note, I read that the new Model 70 are made with the pre-64 action. (The Winchester Repeating Arms name is now owned by FNH).
10/26/2008 12:03:38 PM
the FN rifles are controlled feed, and some of the last m70s were as well, they were sold as classic models. they made the push feed and control feed simultaneously, some varmint calibers were push for some reason. The Classic series has that huge extractor and a G suffix on the serial number. Remington has been a stalwart of rifle production, the first as good as the last but it is nice to know the date.

this country's sick obsession with guns is why things like this happen:http://www.wral.com/news/national_world/national/story/3825061/
10/27/2008 1:37:38 PM
no, its not. there is no sick obsession. This was poor decision making, allowing him to shoot but no more dangerous than motocross or atv riding. It got away from him.
10/27/2008 2:01:54 PM
^^wow, that is an incredibly weak argument. GTFO here with that ignorance.
10/27/2008 5:14:01 PM
That was pure stupidity. Nothing more.On a better note, I'm going squirrel-ing tomorrow - here's to good luck and a few tasty tree rats.
10/27/2008 8:10:19 PM
that was a freak, completely avoidable accident. however no I would not let a child of that age fire automatic weapons
10/28/2008 2:19:03 AM
I had an instructor once tell a similar (but not tragic) story with his own son, who I think was 5 or 6. He let the boy shoot a large revolver (can't remember the specifics). Boy fired, gun went up and the sight cut him on the forehead. Needless to say, the boy didn't want to play with it anymore.
10/28/2008 8:10:59 AM
Just got these guns.....
10/28/2008 9:28:21 AM
^But those guns come with shrivled balls and a increase hat size...
10/28/2008 9:43:19 AM
I don't want to turn this into soap box, but with the elections coming up, candidate ratings and endorsements regarding 2nd Amendment issues are always worth looking at if you're indecisivehttp://www.nrapvf.org/
10/29/2008 1:43:16 AM
I'm thinking about getting an STI Edge. Opinions? I already own an RIA Tactical in .45, and an XD9. I like my XD, but I'm of the mind that combat pistols come in two flavors: 1911 and Browning Hi-Power. However, instead of the Edge, I could be sold on a SIG X-Five.
11/4/2008 6:59:49 AM
^Have you considered the Kimber or a Wilson Combat?
11/4/2008 9:41:41 AM
11/4/2008 9:53:39 AM
anything sti or svi is top shelf, and wilsons are forever. I would put kimber below them just because of the excessive use of MIM parts and they have that proprietary sight cut.
11/4/2008 9:54:54 AM
has anyone applied for a handgun permit with a prior/pending arrest or pending cases against you? Did they give you the permit? Any stipulations?
11/4/2008 11:23:20 AM
^purchase or concealed? You should be able to get a purchase AFAIK, but if the charges go through any applications that are pending will be denied, and your money kept.
11/4/2008 11:45:09 AM
I'm a little bit new to the AR game. I have a Ruger SR9 and a Mossberg 500 12ga, but I really want a AR-22.What is the best way for a newbie to get into the semi-auto .22 AR style rifles? Any websites to visit?
11/4/2008 11:52:25 AM
^^^^I like wilsons and kimbers but I'm looking for something different. STI/SVI has a certain look, plus the Edge is double-stack. I know shooters and 1911/1911-platforms are what shooters use. I'm not talking about cops, security guards, feds, your boy that just got out the Marine Corps etc. SMU shooters use 1911s, and I like them. Look at Gunsite. Those are some of the top guys in the world, and what do they preach? 1911 all day baby. I'm not a person who thinks Glock, the M&P et al are bad pistols, I just think the old design is proven.
11/4/2008 12:05:33 PM
11/4/2008 1:17:35 PM
^^ Gunsight is a bunch of Jeff Cooper worshipers who train for competition. If you're training for competition then get you a 1911 with a .05lbs trigger, micarta grips, replace all the MIM parts with depleted uranium, and be happy with it.There is a reason almost no one carries the 1911 for personal defense any more.
11/4/2008 1:22:38 PM
11/4/2008 1:54:49 PM
^not for concealed. You pay in advance then.
11/4/2008 1:56:38 PM
^^hell yeah. I'm not buying for defense. I'm buying for a sweet 1911 that will punch tight holes in paper at 25m
11/4/2008 2:00:37 PM
Brandon1, I built a nice AR15 and just added a drop in Ciener bolt with a 30rd mag. It works like a charm. Not to mention that I can just take it out and have it back in .223 in about 30 seconds. Thats my recomendation.check out:http://www.ar15.comIts got plenty of info on there.[Edited on November 4, 2008 at 4:02 PM. Reason : ,]

Hows that bolt work?More specifically, where is the 22LR chambered when using that conversion?
