I don't think so.
there would be room for a trim pot I guess, but the most I've seen was a 3 position switch with pass though and two different cap values.
I just used one cap value someone suggested on freestompbox.org and was happy with that.

you could probably put a pot in there on the side where the stereo out would usually go (like a dd-6) with the knob sticking out sideways.

by the way here is a cool page explaining the different dd-3s and why they are superior to dd-5/6s
http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/articles/DD3.htm

and here is a serial number decoder which can date any BOSS pedal to the year and month it was produced

I got a Yamaha FGX730SC the other day. its a solid top cutaway acoustic w/ electronics. pretty amazing bang for the buck i'd say. I played everything at GC under $1000 on two occasions and left w/ this $500 Yamaha

I have a broken tuning peg on my old alvarez acoustic. I've never had to replace one before. How much is it gonna cost me, and will I be able to replace it myself?

if you don't care about the button matching the other five, you can get one for a few bucks at any guitar shop that does repairs. they're likely to have a few odd ones sitting around that they'll sell you for anywhere from $3-10 depending on what it is

you have to make sure it fits, though; if it's got a threaded hex bushing it shouldn't be a big deal, but if it's a press-in bushing the hole will be smaller and you'll have to find someone with a spare press-in model to fit it, which might take calling around

with that said, you might look into replacing them all if the quality on the ones you have isn't great. you can get a really nice set of tuners for $40-50, and as long as you don't have to ream out the holes they're easy to install

Post a pic of it from the front and back. I've got a couple sets of pegs that I need to get rid of; one is from an acoustic so it might work.

played through a 1935 gibson eh-150 today

no controls, just two inputs and an off/on switch

speaker's a field coil, so it doesn't have a magnet...weird old tech that's pretty cool

sounded good for a 75 year old amp

So what do you guys who live in apartments do? I wouldn't mind living in an apt/condo at the beach next time I move...it would give me plenty of time to househunt (or build), but I'd hate to not be able to play.

Get a nice 3-5 watt tube combo. You can turn it up to 6-7 where you get some nice breakup out of it without pissing off the neighbors.

My preference (and best bang for the buck IMO) is a silverface Fender Champ, which you can find in good shape for $300 or less, or something newer like a Vox AC4 for even less. The Vox is kind of cool because it has a built-in attenuator that cuts it down to 1 or 1/4 of a watt, though it doesn't sound quite as nice as a Champ and is a bitch to work on if something happens (the Vox is a PCB build, while the Champ is handwired).

yeah, I used to have an old Silverface Champ. I think I paid $50 for it, then sold it a few years later for $250.

Playing that quietly sucks, though.

I'm looking to get another guitar. I've currently got an Ibanez s540ltd (1991). It needs a bit of tlc:
1) The wire connecting the jack needs to be re-soldered
2) The middle pickup gives nothing but feedback on a distorted channel but gives a really good sound when on a clean channel
3) One of the ...things... that locks the string at the bridge got damaged, the allen wrench socket is about stripped out.

These things are very fixable, but I was looking for a new guitar. I was thinking an Ibanez s570, I'm just a sucker for Ibanez and that style of guitar. The one I was looking at is:
http://www.samash.com/p/S%20Series%20Electric%20Guitar%20wTremolo%20Assorted%20Colors_1048503

The only thing is that it has INF2/INF2 pickus, which I understand to be lower-middle range. My current sXXX Ibanez has F2/F1 pickups which I think are much better, not sure. I'm really not interested in replacing the stock pickups, I just wanted an idea of how good/bad the INF series was.

The other thing... I've already got an Ibanez s series and I plan on restoring it, so maybe getting another s series wouldn't be in my best interest. I guess I was willing to drop $650 on a new Ibanez, anything else in that price range that's decent? I have no interest in Fender, but I wouldn't mind a Les Paul/Epiphone. Does Gibson make a good guitar in that price range, or do you have to bum up to the $thousands before you get a decent entry? Any other recommendations?

Music style - anything but country.

\/ Unfortunately I don't know a quality Gibson from a crap Gibson. The only thing I'd have to go off of as a differentiator is the hardware quality (knobs, switch, bridge, etc.) and the price.

You can get a nice used Gibson in the $600-700 range. My main guitar is a '95 Les Paul Special that I picked up for $700.

INF pickups are fucking garbage.

the V7/V8s in some RG models are pretty nice for stock pickups

I'm reading some reviews on the INF1/2 series pickups. It's a shame, Ibanez is gimping some really nice guitars with these things. I'd probably bite on the s570 if not for the bad reviews the stock pickups are getting. If they truly were that bad you'd think they'd start using something better.

Anyone had any experiences with a Epiphone Les Paul Standard? I'm starting to narrow the choices down to some sort of LP Epiphone or another Ibanez s series.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-103812863-i1149387.gc
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-S570B-Electric-Guitar-584141-i1499769.gc

Both apparently have less than stellar pickups. I guess for my price range (under $700) just have to settle for getting the guitar now and replacing the pickups later.

I'd wait around to find a cheap Studio or a modern Special before I'd spend $500 on a Chinese Epiphone that will immediately need pickups and tuners.

I ended up finding a used Ibanez s520ex that I got a decent deal on. It needs some work, but it'll end up being a nice replacement knock-about guitar.

I've still got to fix the s540ltd - then store it away.

if someone says pickups are too "hot" does that mean they are too trebly

i find the pickups on my LP Studio can get quite trebly

it means their output is high. Its like running a small boost in front of your amp, except that in general they are less dynamic.

Kind of, you can still clean up a good amp, rolling off the volume but its the same kind of effect as playing harder but a little different. Honestly the best pickups for any style of music [even death metal] are mid ranged pickups. I've always noticed a pretty significant loss in clarity with hot pickups like those EMGs even with the 18v mod. I much prefer just using a boost like an od808 or preferably a BB Preamp adding just a tiny little bit of gain but mostly just a clean volume increase. I can play totally cleanly without some shitty ass muddy pickups then bump up the volume and easily get into full saturation. But what do i know

midrange pickups you say?

you mean pickups that are more powerful than a standard strat pickup, but not as muddy as a humbucker?

hmm, what could that possibly be?

OH, I KNOW

A P-90

i was moving today and with out thinking i stuck my hand in the back of my classic 20 to pick it up and knocked one of the tubes out. it bent the pins and i can't get it get back in. do i need to have it re-biased or matched to a new tube? do i need to replace all 4 (or 5 i don't remember) tubes at once?

really i mean, theres a bunch of pickups [usually boutique handwound] that have really low output and still lack that dynamic response from volume rolls and picking strength. I will probably be picking up some Bareknuckle pickups when i get the ca$h. P90s are alright but not for me and wouldn't work for the pretty wide range of shit i find myself playing. Though they would be the tits for my stoner band.

^^ The Classic 20 is cathode bias amp, so you don't need to do anything besides put in a new tube. Now, you might get better results with a new matched pair, but you won't harm the amp just by throwing a new tube in there.

^ I firmly believe that a quality P-90 is the best pickup in the world for responding to pick attack and properly set-up volume and tone controls, especially when paired with an EL84-based amp. With that said, it's true that they're not the best for some styles.

There's a quilt-top S540 on Raleigh CL that just went up for $500 with case. I know nothing about shredders, so I have no idea if that's a good price or if this one is a desirable version, but with all the S540 talk lately I thought I'd give a heads up.

peavey amps are interesting to me. i've owned a couple of them, and i've never heard one that sounded bad, but i've also never heard one that sounded really great. at the same time, i've never heard of one breaking down. the peavey bandit i got in 1999 started going on the road with art lord/future island in 2003 and is still being used by another baltimore band and it's never had an issue. granted, it's solid state, but not a single problem in 7+ years of hard gigging.
