went a good 3 miles in duke forest today at a pretty brisk running pace for me, although I did walk about .5 miles of it, I felt like it was mostly dehydratation that limited me this time, it seems to always be one of several factors1. straight up muscle fatigue, which seems to go along with dehydration for me2. total cramping, usually in the arch of my foot or my calves, this used to be a major hurdle for me but proper stretching seems to have eliminated it3. just being out of shape, the normal stuff you associate with it like panting, huffing/puffing, running out of energy feeling like you can't go on, cardiovascular/respiratory issues4. then there are days like today where it just seemed like overheating, running low on fluids is what did me in, I just got kind of light headed, felt like my blood was boiling, a little dizzy/urge to vomitlately it's been 1 and 4 that have totally done me in, any runners have some pointers to get over these hurdles? hopefully just winter time will help with that last factor as I seem to be at my peak when it's in the 40s or 50s outside[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 6:58 PM. 9/23/2007 6:04:34 PM
how much should i realistically be lifting as a beginner. im a skinny guy and, while im not interested in gaining tons of muscle, id like a little bit to gain some tone.i mostly do upper body work since i started capoeira which is a good lower body workout. usually along the lines of:3 set vertical row3 sets bench press3 sets curl3 sets military press3 sets bicycle crunches3 sets regular crunchesso yeah, weight recommendations?
9/23/2007 6:22:38 PM
my advice is between 10-15 reps at 65 percent of your 1rm(rep max)
9/23/2007 6:30:54 PM
my advice is between 6-8 reps at 85 percent of your 1rm(rep max)
9/23/2007 6:32:17 PM
i thought lower reps = gaining more strength, where higher reps = more toning
9/23/2007 6:33:39 PM
He is already skinny....so his definition of toned implies more visible muscles.my advice is between 6-8 reps at 85 percent of your 1rm(rep max)
9/23/2007 6:35:25 PM
more visible muscles implies higher reps imo
9/23/2007 6:38:08 PM
yeah right now those sets are of 8. i do want to build a little, but nothing too crazy (ill cut back when im where i want to be). just need to figure out my max i guess.[Edited on September 23, 2007 at 6:38 PM. Reason : though i think im close to what you said, despite being a weightlifting noob.]
9/23/2007 6:38:17 PM
I ran 7 miles today, and came home and took an enormous dump. I should have pooped before I ran
9/23/2007 6:43:51 PM
yesterday I skateboarded 6 miles with some cyclers\^yeah always poop first. yet another thing i learned from cats... always poop before tearing back and forth across the house for fun and recreation[Edited on September 23, 2007 at 6:46 PM. Reason : d]
9/23/2007 6:44:54 PM
9/23/2007 6:53:35 PM
i dont think body fat is something this person needs to worry about you dumbass
9/23/2007 6:54:24 PM
I dont think your imo is something this person needs to worry about you dumbass. Anyone for that matter.
9/23/2007 6:55:35 PM
I really dont even know what the fuck you just tried to say
9/23/2007 6:56:22 PM
whatev man...i've heard forever higher reps equal size and toning, and lower reps equals more strength but go ahead and give him bad advice
9/23/2007 6:56:23 PM
he needs to gain mass first, i'd go with lower reps for a while first
9/23/2007 6:57:22 PM
i weight 125 at 5'11. if i built a bit, i doubt it wouldnt show. ive always heard lower reps for building, higher for maintenance / tone.
