^^ H&K's aren't that expensive, I have two and got one for $600 and the other for around $750 depending on what you valued my trade. It might be sacrilege but even if you gave me a 1911 in that price range I would turn around and sell it without bothering to see if it would run. And no I don't care about your RIA 1911 that works great or any other similar story

Quote :
"actually piercing armor has nothing to do with it, it doesn't even have to. and it doesn't matter what a rifle round can do (in a rifle), armor piercing by code applies only to rounds that can be used in a handgun."

I understand the legal definitions, but I mean practically...I can't figure out exactly what they intend to accomplish. Public safety? Nope. Discourage sales of ammunition and 5.56-chambered evil black rifles? Fuuuuck no.. Protect law enforcement? Nope. No practical effect other than upholding and enforcing the rule of law for the sake of precedent? No, not even close.

and also, I would say that the ATF's original stance on the SIG brace was maybe not an explicit "blessing", but certainly de facto just by virtue of not being against it.

^ it feels weird to say it, and I can't bring myself to sell my 1911 (a Springfield stainless loaded model with match bushing and trigger work, along with bead blasting for a matte finish), but I think I shoot my bone stock XDm 3.8" (9mm) about 95% as accurately, and maybe even 100% as accurately. Oh, and it holds nearly triple as many rounds, costs half as much, and shoots cheaper ammunition. I find myself shooting the 1911 less and less. It used to be about 50/50; now it's probably at least 75/25.

My 1911 gives an intangible satisfaction in shooting it that an XD/Glock/etc doesn't deliver, but how much is that worth? Like I said, I don't think I'll sell the one I have, but I don't think I'd buy one all over again.

Depends on the barrel length. You could have an AR pistol with a 7 inch barrel or a 24 inch barrel.

Thanks for that link, NeuseRvrRat. I will follow up.

It's SA pulls that only bother me. There's just so much trigger travel that I feel like it's throwing off consecutive shots.

has anyone ever noticed how tiny the amount of steel is between the hinge pin and edge of many adjustable rear sights?

it was small before my gunsmith installed it, and even smaller now... i thought he done fucked up but i went on google image search and it seems pretty common. most are the same or worse than mine.

i assume this is normal / not a big deal then?

examples:

http://myplace.frontier.com/~prophet60091/images/Sights1.jpg

^this one is very large, but click it

^,^^this one is the most similar to mine

http://arnzenarms.com/sites/default/files/product/firearm/Coonan%20357%20Adjustable%20Sights%202.jpg

^(not going to make that one visible because its so big, but click on it and its a pretty extreme example of this)

anyway, thats probably way too many examples, but it makes me feel better just to post them and get opinions. i understand its not exactly a stressed component (except in recoil i suppose), but such a small amount of steel at first glance makes me nervous. many of these have smaller "margins" than my own. have you guys noticed this on your own weapons? does it bother you? have you shot thousands of rounds with no wear or bulging at that hinge pin area?

i hope i was clear about the part im referring to.

And once again this administration sells more guns/ammo. I find it hilarious that if Obama came out pro gun rights from the start there would be so many less gun/ammo sales over the past 6 years.

If Clinton never signed the first AWB and similar legislation wasn't saught after later I guarantee the number of "assault weapons" in existence today would be DRAMATICALY less. So funny how anti gun liberals have had the opposite impact that they wanted versus them just shutting their mouths.

the thing that drives me nuts is that the most lethal shootings all occur where people "aren't allowed" to have guns....

Yep because having a warning sign is really going to stop a murderous rampage....

hey guys iif i post a list of AR pistol parts can you tell me if the gun is any good / how much it would cost to build myself?

rather than buy it lightly used?

thanks.

10.5 " aero precision barrel
Troy medieval muzzle brake
ALG mlok rail with front sight rail section included
PSA upper and lower
PSA pistol buffer tube w sig brace
PSA premium BGC
BCM mod 3 charge handle
KNS anti roll pins
Spikes T2 buffer

I dont know what a few of these things are off the top of my head. I was hoping the AR build crew would comment. 240 rounds shot through this weapon, built by an armorer at ft bragg. looks good in the pics, i was just wondering about a good price to buy it used versus building it myself based on these parts. how much does he have in it?

3 mags included, no optic or sights.

Without pricing it out that sounds fair. Of course that depends on if you like the setup or would value other components enough to persuade you into building your own.

yeah it looks well taken care of. i didnt see any obvious problems and ive owned ARs in the past, just not pistols and ive never built my own.

barrel is a 1 / 7 twist.

i was going to put that primary arms micro dot on it.

i dont really have time right now to build my own honestly, so i appreciate the advice.

I would browse around the forums first to see if you can find similar setups to see if it's a good deal or if there are better. The AR market is soft and I assume the pistol is soft as well with the recent ruling on the arm brace.

^^Dude, you can fully build one from the ground up, including cleaning and lubing in less than 2-3 hours. And that includes n00b time.

2) you underestimate my noob

(even if i had that much time i would be cleaning gutters or some damn thing)

as long as im not getting fucked at $700 im happy.

He probably has right around $700 in it.
It isn't a screaming deal, but not terrible.
$6-650 would be slightly more appropriate since it is used, but if you aren't interested in building it yourself then you really won't do a lot better than that deal.

You could also sell the sig brace for $80-100 and pay for the PA dot with that money.

The PA dot is mine; sorry for not being more clear. I've had it for awhile, but I probably will get rid of the brace if it's awkward or stupid.

...so is this gun actually going to be a good shooter? Or is it built from the cheapest of everything? I know people here have a lot of opinions on AR builds and various components.

Is anything about this one obviously shit? Are there any glaring improvements that could be made? Questionable choices by the builder, etc?

Thanks again,

Got a chance to shoot one of MaximaDrvr's ar-15 with the variable 1-4x trijicon scope.

Man. That has got to be my favorite rifle I've ever shot. Well balanced, very versatile! The scope is a little on the heavy side, but the rifle is fantastic.

Huge props. I'm not an AR guy, but I'd build that exact one for myself... So perfect.

The gun in question's important details:
16" light weigh profile mid length gas system
A2 buffer system and Magpul A2 stock.
Timney 3lb drop in trigger
15" Samson rail
3 port Miculek comp
And lastly, the Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x in Burris PERP mount.

This is a zombie/apocalypse defense gun. In case of EMP. Or batteries dying.

Also, the red dot is on a quick detach so I can quickly swap for magnified optics if I want.

No real reason really. I'll likely get another set of 90* iron sights down the road, but I just didnt know if I'd like having to look through the scope to cowitness. I'm also just a n00b.

So I bought a 4" S&W 686 Plus the other day... and it has the best trigger of any gun I've ever held.

This is the 7-shot 357mag, wow, factory sights were dead on and this thing is extremely accurate.

^ I love mine, just fun guns to shoot.

A buddy of mine had one where the previous owner was the Texas state revolver champion in something and he had that thing customized like crazy. Best trigger I have ever used and it kicked less than a 9mm. I am still pissed he didn't sell me that gun.

Need a new 9mm pistol. Glock 19 Gen 4 or HK VP9 (even though I know the VP9 is closer to the G17).

I would look at the VP9 for sure. I have a P30 and it is one of the best feeling pistols I have ever used and I think the VP9 is similar (never handled one personally). You can't go wrong with a G19 but depending on your needs/wants the VP9 could be a better choice.

I'd be more interested in the G43 if the grip was longer to facilitate a higher capacity or if it was thinner than a Shield. It's not even competitive on price.

im generally a terrible shot, but this S&W makes me feel great.

i had a couple flyers, but at 40 yards i put three cylinders into an 8 inch square; cheap 38 special from academy sports, 4 inch barrel.

is that any good? this might be the worst attempt at a humblebrag ever... i was pretty happy though.
