The appstore is already giving problems updating apps, so I imagine it's going to be real bad at 1.[Edited on September 18, 2013 at 12:48 PM. Reason : hello 246]

9/18/2013 12:58:54 PM
I'm on a fairly tenuous but usable wifi connection and it's downloading VERY slowly to my phone. my iPad keeps getting an error.
9/18/2013 1:49:05 PM

gonna be hit or miss until the servers cool down. they're getting hammered as expected. saw a forum user post a link from akamai that global internet traffic is up 92% today.took quite a few tries to get things rolling but my 4S is nearly done with "Preparing Update..."
9/18/2013 2:07:44 PM
oh definitely.i think the ipad is finally dl'ing securely.and 11.1 is coming through after about 20 minutes of repeated errors.
9/18/2013 2:18:20 PM
Got it working on my iPhone 5. Started downloading pretty soon after it was available and it was slow but worked fine.
9/18/2013 2:35:52 PM
I downloaded it right at 1 on my iPhone 5. It took about 40 minutes to get it installed & everything. The download itself took 9 minutes. It's working fine & I like it so far.
9/18/2013 3:12:53 PM
i really like ios 7 so far. pretty slick!!
9/18/2013 3:28:56 PM
i can't wait for a big screen iPhone
9/18/2013 3:29:34 PM
anyone else's iPad really having trouble with this update? mine finally downloaded but it keeps telling me "Software Update Unavailable" when it tries to install, and verify the update. mine's a retina display.i guess the servers are also slammed with verification requests as well...[Edited on September 18, 2013 at 4:12 PM. I hate the way the new sounds actually sound. Battery life so far has been absolute crap, but is slightly better after a reboot. I also don't really like the reduced font size on the status bar at the top (clock, battery, etc.).Other than that, it's not terrible because it's more Androidy.
9/18/2013 4:11:08 PM
^^getting that on my iphone now. ill keep trying. im currently doing an ipad as well.
9/18/2013 4:49:33 PM
I've seen that error pop up on a few phones around here (including my own). I had to kill the settings app a few times to get it to take off. I'm guessing the servers are so busy that the phone can't reach it for validation?
9/18/2013 4:55:17 PM
seems to be the case. I finally got it through after about an hour of trying to authenticate.
9/18/2013 6:14:31 PM
waited until around 10pm EST to update. the Download said it would take around 30 minutes. I watched an hour of TV and came back to find everything ready to go. so far i'm enjoying the new OS
9/19/2013 8:33:50 AM
Seriously Apple? You completely removed the ability to listen to podcasts from the music app?My only choices are now to download another one of your dedicated apps (Podcasts) which I hear nothing but garbage about, or pay money to buy an app? They completely removed the "podcasts" genre from the music app, so currently I have no way to access my podcasts on my phone.
9/19/2013 9:14:27 AM
I've never had a problem with the podcasts app. Maybe I'm not using it the same way other people do...? I just add the ones I like & listen to them. Why is the keyboard & stuff in the facebook app not the new ios 7 keyboard? Is this bc facebook needs to update their stuff, or is something wrong with my phone?
9/19/2013 10:00:23 AM
^ I've heard that apps have to update to allow use of the new keyboard.
9/19/2013 10:01:52 AM
They've improved the Podcasts app significantly in the last few updates. It's still not perfect, but it's worlds better than it used to be. It can actually function independently of iTunes now, which it used to not be able to do when it was embedded in Music.Give it a shot. My only beef with it still is that when it looks for new podcasts, it still tries to re-insert episodes I've already previously listened to. Not sure why it can't manage that better, but perhaps it's addressed in 7. Haven't tried it out yet.
9/19/2013 10:26:22 AM
holy shit - ios7 supports multipath TCP?! that's a feature cool enough for me to post in this thread.
9/19/2013 11:39:59 AM
I kinda like a lot of the things except the display.. It's like a fake kinda cartoon-ey feel. Not a big fan

picked up a 32GB black 5s this AM from verizon. Felt like an asshole standing out there (there were decent lines at both VZW and ATT (Apple store line was about 200 people, ours were about 50).pretty much no gold variation except in major markets from what i read/inferred, and then only in limited supply to keep up a false demand.only reason i went is because i had sold my 5 earlier this week for $500 and the one from apple wasnt going to arrive until next Friday at the earliest. i was out the door with it after about an hour and a half of line standing and actually processing my sale.
9/20/2013 1:11:41 PM
amazing. a usps employee apparently stole my old phone 5 out of the package I mailed it in to my buyer. The buyer got an empty iphone box, and because i hadn't deactivated the phone prior to sending, because I was goign to pick up the 5s today but Amazon wanted it shipped by Tuesday, I have a log of about 30 calls made roughly coinciding with when it arrived at my local USPS sort facility, all to local numbers in the surrounding area. what a moron. i filed an insurance claim via the amazon merchant insurance provider, and also filed a report with the postal inspectors. There was no data on the phone, but the SIM was still tied to my number until I got my 5s or the buyer took it to amazon and had his account authorized on it.buyer was super understanding about it. is going to dispute charges for the time being, and i told him once the claim is processed (he has to supply an affidavit), ill just refund his money and be made whole by the insurance (actually came out better because i offload the phone and amazon doesnt end up with their cut)[Edited on September 20, 2013 at 2:53 PM. So can iOS7 not be used with Straight Talk? It seems like the APN settings cannot be changed
9/20/2013 8:59:20 PM
I've been using iPhone 5 with ios7 on net10 att sim for several days now. I haven't had any issues.

using it on straight talk...works for me

Does straight talk have 4G or LTE?

two things.1. iOS7 is the Wind Waker of iPhone OS. 2. to me it seems like the microphone fails a lot more often to me

9/23/2013 11:07:50 PM
same line shananigans?]
9/23/2013 11:16:06 PM
sorry, as in, there's people lined up... I assume just for the 5s correct? There shouldnt be a massive line for the 5c or it's not sold out or some such correct?
9/24/2013 2:01:05 PM
Everything I've read says that the 5s outsold the 5c by a pretty substantial margin this weekend, and it was the one that was supposed to be in short supply, so I'd image the 5c is fairly readily available. You can always order online and have it set to in-store pickup just to make sure what you want is available though.
9/24/2013 3:10:28 PM
5 minutes into playing around with the 5s and I'm already pissed offThere is a pretty significant latency when pressing the home button...almost twice as long as on the 4s that I'm comparing it to side by side. After looking online for an answer I see that people in the ios7 beta were having this issue but able to solve by turning off the triple click accessibility shortcut.Problem: There doesn't seem to be a way to turn the triple click off on the 5s, which is awesome because who the fuck ever uses the stupid shit tied to triple click anyways
9/24/2013 9:44:46 PM
Did you update to 7.0.1 yet? I know that fixes a couple of 5S specific issues that were found, but I haven't heard anything about that one in particular. Wouldn't hurt to try it if you haven't already though.
9/24/2013 9:50:54 PM
Yup I've updated

My biggest problem with the 5s/ios7 is that they seem to have spent the last year "fixing" things that either nobody cared about or didn't need to be fixed, while largely ignoring the things people actually wanted. I would have been happier with the new phone if they had simply upgraded the speed, camera, and battery. The only change to the ios that I really appreciate so far is the control center (this is just for me, mind you...there are clearly some other additions that people like, and I can appreciate that). But it seems, as mentioned above, they changed so many little things that didn't need changing. In the notification center I used to be able to quickly see the temperature and weather condition displayed simply. Now it's a sentence I have to read.A quintessential example of this was the "reveal" of the fingerprint scanner. I think the first thing they mentioned was something along the lines of, "our research shows that 60% of iPhone users don't have a password on their phone", which of course they took to mean that was a problem they needed to fix. It takes 12 seconds to set the password, you know what those statistics say to me? 60% of people don't care about their phone security and would rather you spend your time fixing something else.
9/26/2013 11:53:00 AM
Eh, I don't know if I agree with that. I don't have a pass code on my phone because I don't want to have to spend the extra few seconds to put it in dozens or even hundreds of times a day. Plus they're not really all that secure unless you make sure to hide your phone with one hand while putting in the code with the other. I've been able to see the passcode of practically everyone I've ever seen unlock their phone just because they never make an effort to hide it, which sort of defeats the point, IMO. With the fingerprint scanner, it's actually quicker to unlock your phone that way than slide to unlock on a phone without a code. I sorta see this feature as something that people didn't even know about, so they wouldn't have thought to want it, but once they start using it, it will become "necessity" from here on out.
9/26/2013 12:06:21 PM
Certainly there are people like you, no doubt (though did you know that you could previously set the password to only take effect if your phone has been off for 5 minutes? So that way if you put it down and picked it right back up again you wouldn't have to put the password in..takes away the 100 times point at least...but you can no longer set it this way in the new phone, at least I can't find it)I don't necessarily care about the fact that they put it in, and it might be something that becomes important, but I could have named 5 things I'd rather have without hesitationAlso as a side note, and something I'm sure they'll fix, I can't figure out how to turn the fingerprint scanner on but keep the password off. As far as I can see, if I turn on the fingerprint scanner the password comes on too \/ On mine when I turn on the fingerprint scanner, then use it, the passcode immediately comes on, not after 3 failed attempts...probably a settings thing, but not one I really care about because I'm not concerned with my phone's security anyways, I'm fine having it off[Edited on September 26, 2013 at 12:22 PM. ^^exactly. The problem with the pin code or shapeswipes to unlock is that they were so easily defeatable and a pain to enter many times a day. I had my phone hooked into corporate email so it was required that I at least set a 4 digit pin. It wasn't a huge deal to have to enter the pin but now with the fingerprint reader being so flawless its a huge advancement.^the passcode is a fallback if the fingerprint scanner fails after three tries, so it will always be required to be on if touchid is on. also the passcode is required instead of fingerprint if the phone is rebooted. Also, my corporate security policy enforce 1 minute lock and instant lockouti have very few problems with iOS7. minor annoyances and really they are just associated with the upgrade process from 6 to 7. it was such a big break and some of the defaults chosen just didn't make sense for the new features introduced. For instance the item i posted above. Why did apple choose to completely change how contacts were shown in iMessage, its a big change especially for those with big contact lists, and then the options are nested 2 levels deep. A simple question during startup would have helped (or setting the default to show full name). And, why did they implement the feature without fully fleshing it out, make it smart shorten names. So if i just have one contact named John, it shortens them but if I have more than 1 John in my contact list then it doesn't shorten any.Minor annoyances, very happy overall.[Edited on September 26, 2013 at 12:22 PM.
