The spring wasn't strong enough and experienced some difficulty seating all the way when cambering a round by hand. The Guide Rod itself didn't give me problems until it failed and my slide went down range about 10 yards or so (iirc). I didn't know about the issue/failure until it happened to me.

Note, the gun never had FTF or FTE issues, aside from the chambering issues.

Yes. LCR is overrated; way overrated. The trigger isn't the great and its way too oddly shaped for a small revolver. If it was a S&W 351 it would be a different story.

Dumb question. Going to the Dixie Gun and Knife and want to bring a handgun to try to trade. On the website it says "No Cases." Any one know what this specifically means? It sounds like they are saying I can't bring the box for the gun but that just sounds illogical. Don't want to stand in line to have to bring it back to car if that is really the meaning.

It means all guns need to out in the open so they can be cleared and zip-tied. You can bring the box, but the gun will be removed.

Found this deal. Adams Arms piston driven mid length, comes with a "blemish" so $600 instead of $1,100.

Rifle arrived, and no shit I can't find anything wrong with it. Showed my neighbor, he got one, and his barrel has the smallest gray patch, I maybe 2mm in diameter.

Shoots great, just toss the hand guards and stock and get something you like. I recommend for anyone who is new to the piston set up and wants to give it a try.

8" circle, 45-50 yards

all the bigger splatters on the bottom half were from my break-barrel spring pellet rifle 4x factory scope aiming dead center... that little sucker is fun

the ones up on the top half may be the Mosin (open sights). I didn't check the elevation before shooting, figuring it was already set to zero. It wasn't

a little .22 action at the bottom left with my AR and conversion bolt, open sights

bottom right bullseye was my bro-in-law on first try with a cheap mossberg 702 (.22) and even cheaper red dot

Gave in and bought a NAA revolver. Perry s had the 22 LR ones on sale, went in and the 22 mag ones were on sale for the same price.

Bought the revolver and 250 rounds of ammo, as they also had tons of 22 and 22 mag on sale.

Now i just need to decide if I want a holster or pocket clip for it, and take some time to run about half of that ammo through it.

Help Me Find a Deer Rifle:

Need a rifle that is going to be used exclusively for white tail deer. The majority of my hunting in done on a hilly farm that is covered in thick woods and brush on one side and open land on the other. Max shot would be 250 yards and I mean max.

Looking for a rifle/scope combo in a caliber that would fit this property. I don't want to spend more than $500 on said combo.

My G/F is interested in doing the Appleseed Marksman program. For Christmas, I'm thinking about getting her a rifle to do this. I've got my Marlin 795 with Tech Sites and absolutely love that rifle. However, I know I picked up my Marlin before quality supposedly became questionable and Marlin was bought by Remington. With that said, the only semi auto .22lr that I can think of is the Ruger 10/22. Although I would ordinarily buy used for myself, since this is a gift I want to purchase new. Any other useful suggestions or ideas? I'd let her use mine as well, but I'd like to join her and make a weekend even for the both of us, so I'll need my own rifle as well.

Just looked and Gallery of Guns has a 10/22 for $210.99 shipped for the synthetic stock and $254.99 for the wood (I'd get her wood since I know that's what she'd prefer).

I'll look into getting her some tech sites too. I didn't find the factory sites to be terrible, I know I saw a difference when I shot one with and without tech sites.

Looking at getting a Remington 770 for $275 to take with my daughter hunting for her first season. I don't really want to get a more expensive rifle because lord knows how it may fare, but I am not 100% certain on this rifle. I know if I do get one I will need to strip it, polish the bolt, and do some other work, but what are your thoughts?

could do a 930; i love mine.

i have had two 500s that ended up at a gunsmith with feeding issues. one good one that still needed rough machining inside smoothed out.

i had a 535 that was complete garbage. a family member has a remington 870 that never gave them any grief; it is easier to disassemble too. they are easy to find and cheap but remington doesnt have a great reputation anymore.

1. Buy a decent laser bore-sight.
2. Get it close.
3. Then take a box of ammo and head to a range.

I like a 100 yard Zero for hunting. 300 yard zero for long range paper/steel targets.

You don't even need a laser bore sight, just take the bolt out an look down the barrel. I can usually get on paper just doing that and once you are there just dial it in. Just make sure you know what your adjustments are doing, I believe when I sighted in my aimpoint it was the opposite of a traditional scope and that made for some fun

Yeah, don't waste money on a laser bore sight. Use the method described above and then start with a large paper target at 25 yds. Use a really big sheet of paper with a single dot on it.

Yeah, any of the 300 magnums would be an absolutely ludicrous choice for that application.

.243 would be ok. I think I'd step it up to .260 or maybe 7mm-08 like I said, but I wouldn't argue with .243.

.270 is a lot less crazy than .300-anything, but it's still a .30-06 parent case and would incur more recoil than is necessary for no practical performance advantage in this situation.

7mm-08, tops. .243 at a minimum. Anything in between would be perfect.

.243 requires some careful shot placement on deer-sized game. Not a beginner's deer cartridge, imo. 7mm-08 would be good. Pretty much a shorter, lighter recoiling 270. The best way to combat recoil is with a heavier rifle, not with a softer shooting cartridge, though.

I have 2 savage model 99s that I love for hunting. They are light weight .308s and they shoot amazing.
One is open sighted and the other is scoped both I absolutely love.

As nrr mentioned recoil comes from conservation of momentum equations so if you move a little weight really fast in one direction you can move a lot of weight really slow in the other... Which means get a heavy gun. However if you hike quite a ways lugging around heavy profile gun isn't for everyone either unless you are carrying it for her.

Also as nrr mentioned some of the smaller faster calibers require either direct hits to vitals or major bones to be effective otherwise they put a .243 hole in both sides of the target and keep right on moving.


And .300 win mag for a little girl is going to startle the crap out of her even fired from a bi pod or something.
I had one with a brake on the front and the muzzle blast I think would startle as bad as the recoil did.

Can you hunt with a .260 ar-10 ? They shoot really soft for what they do imho.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the 30-06. That's my go-to deer round. Ammo is fairly cheap and easily found. Drops a deer in its tracks but doesnt do TOO much damage to ruin meat if the shot is placed well.

I've dropped 3 deer in my last 3 hunting trips with 3 shots. Can't complain with that.
