I fell asleep like at least once a game every 4 games I saw when Herb was still here.

oh, don't get me wrong, it was past time for Herb to go, mainly because of our fan apathy.but, god damn, i would love an NCAA tourney now. make the NCAA's and sid can stay as long as he likes. (i don't give a shit how he gets it done.)
1/19/2011 12:39:34 PM
he just wasn't exciting. you knew he'd make the tournament, and you knew he wouldn't really do much in it. bleh.now i'm on the edge of my seat as to whether or not we'll be in the game. it's very much improved on an excitement level.

^sometimes twice a game every 4 games.shoot that infamous Seton Hall game? woke up mid game to find us down like 20, went back to sleep. Got a good nap in during that Iowa snoozefest. That St. Johns game too. Got a GOOD nap in.]
1/19/2011 12:53:20 PM
I too used to nap in the RBC during herb's games.

i really don't see how people think sidney lowe's teams are less boring than herb sendek's. up until this year, the entire offense has been "everybody stand around, pass the ball to tracy smith (or hickson). if that doesn't work, throw up a desparation 3."i mean herb's offense was pretty much the same thing the last 5 years, but with the occasional back door cut. and his teams could actually play defense!

I can't recall a Lowe coached game that was as bad as the St. Johns game. Most of the time we've had at least one good half. Like 2 or 3 years ago when we were down like 42-12 to UNC in the first half we played well in the second half (still lost the game, but we played better). The closest thing I can think of would be either that Northwestern game or the MSU game, but neither was as bad as the St. Johns game. EPIC 21.5% eFG. 2/24 from 3, 20% overall from the field. 19 turnovers, and St. Johns was NOT a good team. They finished that year 9-18 overall, including 3-13 in the big east.

i don't think sid's teams are as boring as herb's teams were, overall, especially when the team is playing well.

^ I personally thought Herb's offense was beautiful when it was run perfectly. Those precision cuts and passes to open layups were nice and could be very frustrating for a defense...and when knocking down open threes, it could be a very difficult offense to guard against. It just wasn't run to perfection very often. And it definitely didn't work against the zone. I thought our offense was great when we would run a mix of that and just a straight up post-up offense when Josh Powell was killing it."if and buts" and all...but with a Josh Powell type big man, just one slashing/creating guard to create when that offense broke down....and that offense becomes quite formidable. We just were never able to put together all those piece (we came close with Hodge and Powell...but fucking Powell went up and left).
1/19/2011 1:34:03 PM
Powell left because his momma took some scrilla, and Hreb did what was right.
1/19/2011 1:36:06 PM
Herb's offense ran perfectly was just someone tossing up a three, whether it went in or not.

Herb would be a much better NBA or Euroleague coach, because his system is way to complex for most 19 year olds to fully grasp. They just want to launch 3s and do tomohawk dunks and he's trying to teach them complex back cuts and double screens. Simple offenses work best for young players, like the Dribble Drive. The best players in Herb's tenure were people like Evitmov and Hodge who didn't fit the mold of traditional elite college players.

^^^I wasn't being completely serious, of course, but in most games against teams with decent defense our offense seldom had more direction than tossing the ball around until someone had a decent look at three. Sometimes you'd see the ball get thrown into Ced/Powell/whoever was the designated bigman, and sometimes you'd see a guy like Cam or Hodge make something else happen, but more times than not it was 25-30 seconds of disorganization followed by a 3.]
1/19/2011 1:47:23 PM
Herb was great a drawing up a play coming out of a timeout, especially if there wasn't much time left on the shot clock. And, man, I always loved his end-of-game calls. Always felt so confident about his schemes.
1/19/2011 1:48:42 PM
^hahahaha you left out inbounds plays. [Edited on January 19, 2011 at 1:55 PM. Reason : .]

You know the Javi Heave from the FSU gameThere were at least 19 of those every game under Herb[Edited on January 19, 2011 at 1:56 PM. Reason : It was actually his preferred call for the final possession]

My vote is for Bennerman off the side of the backboard at Miami

Bilas on David Glenn's show basically said there are no better options out there for NC State than Lowe.I lol'd.

Jay Bilas is a piece of shitHerb's end of game plays were always
1/19/2011 2:10:04 PM
I remember multiple instances of Julius being frustrated with his end of game plays. I still think we would have never made it to the sweet 16 if Sendek had called a timeout.
1/19/2011 2:36:24 PM
The Marcus Melvin end of game call against Houston was pure genius.

I've always found it amusing that people like BigEgo hated Herb and love Sid.Talking about the end games, if those plays occurred now here's what it would sound like:Sid called up a good play, it's not his fault Cam Ben Javi hit the side of the backboard.
1/19/2011 4:35:18 PM
How about me boozie, I loved Herb and I love Sidwtf kind of sense does that make[Edited on January 19, 2011 at 4:38 PM. Reason : probably just a hopeless optimist]

anyone remember the end game play Sid drew up to beat Miami on ESPNU either his second year (I think it was his second year at least)? IIRC it gave someone an open shot (which was missed) and put Fells in position to slam home the rebound for the win? It also was blocked after that by someone's fist since ESPNU wasn't well produced at all at the time compared to ESPN.I liked herb until I was old enough to know better. ]
1/19/2011 4:41:26 PM
I remember that well designed play Sid drew up where Julius Mays jacked up that 27-footer to send it into overtime. It was some "Annexation of Puerto Rico" Little Giants type shit.

The Wisconsin game wasn't nearly as bad from a fans standpoint IMO. That game was against a very good team that played lights out in a venue that's really hard to win in, coupled with us being without our best player and the closest thing we have to a leader. The St. Johns game? Terrible team that didn't even play well. Game was on the road, but St. Johns wasn't exactly the kind of team that had any home field advantage. Herb's most successful team still has this loss on their resumé.

1/19/2011 5:26:40 PM
^It was a STJ's home game, but that team was bad and I think going through scandal so it was pretty much a neutral court other than it being home for St. Johns and a good trip from home for State.
1/19/2011 5:44:24 PM
^If I remember correctly Hodge was all hyped up about playing in MSG. Who knows though I did my best to forget that game...

^^Yeah...I remember that. He laid an egg in front of his home crowd. He also tried to do wayyy too much. That game was a fucking disaster.
