This may be a long shot, but do any of you ladies have a personal history of celiac disease? :/
5/31/2011 1:59:09 PM
mcfluffle had a gluten issue I think, not sure what it was caused by though.
5/31/2011 2:00:48 PM
my mom has celiac disease (and a case of the crazy). doctors thought i had a gluten allergy but really it's just an allergy to life and delicious food PackPrincess i love the Nicole Richie cut and that's along the lines of what i was going to suggest. it never hurts to get a cut around the shoulders and then you can go from there. your hair looks pretty long to begin with so cutting anything more than an inch might be a bit shocking/take some getting used to at first. i keep my hair right around my shoulders or a tad longer. now that it's summer i keep my hair long because on days like today when it's 100 degrees out and 10000% humidity, i have no choice but to keep my hair curly.
5/31/2011 2:02:38 PM
The majority of my family has celiac, but I don't personally. I do have a lot of vicarious knowledge of it though, if you have any specific questions.
5/31/2011 2:10:40 PM
2^Thanks. I'm pretty much sold on that cut, I'm just waiting for someone to convince me NOT to do it, but so far everyone seems to like it.
5/31/2011 2:15:19 PM
Pack...that cut would suit your face very well
5/31/2011 2:16:22 PM
I'm just worried. I know I sound like a hypochondriac, but I've had quite a few of the symptoms for a long time, even the weird ones like ridges in nails and angular chelitis.I started looking into it after I read a paper about narcolepsy and the HLA-DQB1 allele... both narcolepsy and celiac disease can be caused by this allele I'm thinking of going to the doctor that helped me with the sleep issues, but I'm scared. And yet I can't handle this stuff forever. If I have to give up cupcakes I will cry, for real. [Edited on May 31, 2011 at 2:17 PM. Reason : ps... i lurve that cut!]
5/31/2011 2:17:28 PM
they make gluten free everything these days. There is even a gluten free cupcake cookbook out there I think.

Well that makes me feel betterI guess I'll go. My sister sent me a really long and kinda mean response when I tried talking to her about it so now I'm bummed.
5/31/2011 2:21:03 PM
sisters are awesome like that
5/31/2011 2:21:30 PM
haha totally. i told mine that i was exhuasted working two jobs, 7 days a week. her response? well kelly you were unemployed for 6 months, you should have plenty of energy now.yes, cause i can bank energy like that
5/31/2011 2:22:49 PM
Get the bloodwork, then try going gluten free. The biopsy only tells you if you are damaged beyond repair. If your bloodwork is positive and biopsy negative, that means you caught it before you caused serious damage. However, some docs will tell you that you don't have it. It's not really that bad to be gluten free. I have way more energy, so it makes cooking more less of a problem. Plus there are so many gluten free prepared foods now, you don't even have to cook unless you want to.
5/31/2011 2:28:15 PM
sam, just do it!and I guess that pretty much seals the deal. nicole ritchie cut ftw!
5/31/2011 2:39:14 PM
just be careful with the blood work - sometimes it can't determine anything. also, you have to give it 2 weeks of being completely gluten free to feel better - it can take up to that long for your body to expel anything gluten-related in your system.
5/31/2011 2:40:10 PM
well I would just have a hard time with cutting out bread.. I'm going to get in touch with that doc again. I'm tempted to have molecular testing done because it would be able to tell me the complete haplotype aka including narcolepsy (but I also know it's not a guaranteed answer). Either way, the doc I was for that stuff was amazing and knows her stuff. We'll see.My sister basically told me to chalk it up to everyday life events, and said it could be my meds. But then mentioned she knows I"m in the healthcare field and hear lots of "what ifs". So I think she basically told me I'm a hypochondriac because I understand this stuff, but am too stupid to check the side effects my meds can cause. K.[Edited on May 31, 2011 at 2:56 PM. Udi's white sandwich and Rudi's cinnamon raisin are just like real bread! The udi's sandwich bread reminds me a little of french bread. you do not have to give up bread.
5/31/2011 2:58:20 PM
Well that makes me feel better, too I just have a lot of frustration surrounding this, ya know? It could be the answer to some of the weird stuff I've been dealing with for a long time, but at the same time I don't want the diagnosis. But I want to get better.... le sigh.
5/31/2011 2:59:13 PM
bloodwork may not tell you everythingyou may not be a true celiacyou could have a gluten intolerance instead. there is no test for that.basically if your bloodwork is negative or inconclusive for celiac......cut out gluten from your diet and see if you feel better.
5/31/2011 5:31:31 PM
Sam I can also share my homemade gluten free bread recipes too! Trust me, there is a gluten free everything now - bread, pizza crust, flours, waffles, ice cream, frozen meals, cereals, cheetos, chips, crackers, Mac and cheese, pasta, protein bars, etc. And I found all those things at different Krogers when I was gluten free. It does take an adjustment but if you have any level of a gluten intolerance, then you should start to feel better within a week or so. I went sulfite free about a month ago and I have had good results. No reactions, no swelling, no insomnia. My stomach is still not 100% but definitely a big difference than what I was facing a few months ago.
5/31/2011 6:59:10 PM
I have a gluten intolerance, and it made worlds of difference to stop eating gluten. I look at cake now and I don't really even want it. People ask me "How do you live without eating bread?" but you can eat gluten free things that are just like the gluteny versions. Don't despair giving it up. It's a good trade to give up a food in order to get your life and energy back.
6/1/2011 6:59:07 PM
how do i know if I should stop eating gluten? I love bread more than anything on the planet....
6/1/2011 7:27:38 PM
does anyone know of a good site to find bathing suits for bigger bust sizes (bigger than DD)? I'm having issues finding one that isn't ugly. I've tried figleaves and debenhams but i can't find anything I like

TJMaxxI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

on the subject of glutenhow do you rule out abdominal/gastric issues? process of elimination (ie stop eating gluten and see if it works)? maybe i should try that.has anyone ever considered parasites? i mean i know that is really weird and stuff but...for the past year or so i have felt really bad and had like this weird stomach thing (won't bore you with the details) and i went to SE asia last year and ate all kinds of cray cray ish. i was just wondering if that was even plausibledon't look it up if you haven't because then you will just get grossed out haha. but after googling some pictures of some "stuff" my "stuff" looks similar and now i wonder if i should be like "hi doctor i am wondering if i maybe have worms!" or if it could be a gluten thing or what. my BMs are all kindsa messed up.ON THAT SAME NOTE what is the healthy amount to go per day? honest question. i don't know but i feel as though i am DEF very very VERY irregular.
6/1/2011 7:54:12 PM
I have heard good things about the ones they sell at Mod Cloth if you have big boobies.I actually got one at Kohl's that is great and I am a borderline DDD. It has an underwire and is obviously meant for bigger racks.^ It could be possible you got pinworms or something while over there. I would definitely consider going to the doctor to get tested since you were in SE Asia.[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 7:56 PM. Reason : s]
6/1/2011 7:55:11 PM
I just checked modcloth but i feel the only ones that would fit me are the one pieces and I already have one of those. really looking for a two piece :/thanks though
6/1/2011 7:59:41 PM
^^ good idea. i am going to casually remind my doctor that i was there and see what she says. could finally be the end of anemia + gastric symptoms. it is super gross, but in a way i hope it is because i'd rather just be able to take medicine and get rid of worms than have some allergy for life. i guess that is the greedy glutton in me speaking ^ land's end or nordstrom? a girl i work with has a DD (i know you said larger but maybe they have good ones in larger sizes too) and she got one from land's end (some of those are kinda...homely though, but i saw some cute ones in the catalog). but THEN she found a really good one at nordstrom and ended up returning the land's end one. i'm guessing nordstrom might be $texas but could be worth a shot?[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 8:14 PM. 6/2/2011 6:12:41 PM
Sooooo much better (that sounds bad I know...but I love the cut)
6/2/2011 6:13:10 PM
Thanks, Ericas! I know it looks better. I hadn't cut my hair in close to a year. It was just long and boring and frazzled. I am now in love with Aveda products. She used four different ones and I bought two and my boyfriend just told me he loved my hair so much he'd buy me the other two! Yay!
6/2/2011 6:16:28 PM
Your hair looks great! The cut really works well!
6/2/2011 6:21:21 PM
Thanks! The students at the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill did a fantastic job! Got a haircut, pedicure, and caribbean body treatment. The body treatment was orgasmic and only 50 bucks! Head to toe exfoliation and massage, they made the scrub and oil treatments and masks to order for what you needed, and I had a spot of sun burn and peeling left from a bad burn last week and she mixed up some lavender oil and tea tree oil with one of their moisturizers to put on it. AWESOME![Edited on June 2, 2011 at 6:34 PM. Reason : price]

I looooooove the hair I'm going to Aveda again this Saturday... I think I want to tweak the red a bit. Thoughts? Keep it the same or tone it down a bit next time?I loved the intensity last time but I'm still torn.
6/2/2011 8:36:50 PM
I might have to schedule a trip for some pampering at aveda.
6/2/2011 8:39:10 PM
Just got a keratin infusion at a Paul Mitchell salon. 30 bucks, aldehyde-free and smells amazing. Also, you can wash your hair after 24 hours. I'm lovin' it!
6/2/2011 8:39:17 PM
^^^Keep the red. It looks great! And if you like the intensity, that's what matters.
6/2/2011 8:43:12 PM
6/2/2011 8:44:06 PM
I love the red!

6/2/2011 8:46:25 PM
I tried looking for Paul Mitchell salons in Raleigh - I swear there are some. Why is google failing? Ladies, help?
6/2/2011 8:56:24 PM
Isn't there one in Crabtree Mall?
6/2/2011 9:00:23 PM
I thought there was one in Cary Towne Center as well but when I went on the website I could only find salons that sell Paul Mitchell products.
6/2/2011 9:01:51 PM
Cass, it's the Paul Mitchell awapuhi treatment. All-natural and free of aldehydes and formaldehyde, which are found in most keratin treatments to make the treatments last longer. The aldehydes and formaldehyde are thought to be carcinogenic, thus harmful for stylists and clients after extended exposure. I loved my old keratin treatment that contained aldehyde, but the price for this is hard to beat! Plus, I can wash my hair tomorrow! With Coppola keratin complex, you can't wash your hair for 72 hrs, which is challenging for those of us who exercise, and especially during hot summer months. This lasts up to 8 weeks, so it's still a better deal than the full keratin treatments. It may not be as strong, but loose waves are in style. I did this to protect my hair and eliminate frizz.
