While I'm happy, I am severely underwhelmed.
3/17/2017 5:22:31 PM
I am whelmed
3/17/2017 5:23:30 PM
That's kinda how I feel. I don't dislike the hire but in my gut I feel like five years from now I may be in another WTF were we thinking mood haha
3/17/2017 5:24:52 PM
so archie told us to fuck off eh
3/17/2017 5:26:34 PM
Here's hoping that Indiana doesn't make a huge splash with their next hire.
3/17/2017 5:26:44 PM
3/17/2017 5:27:35 PM
seems like a huge leap for him. And yeah, Archie and all of the other good names told us to fuck off.
3/17/2017 5:33:42 PM
Once we see the details of the contract we will know how desperate we were. If the pay is under 2 mil a year then I will feel like he was the guy we wanted. If its over that then to me that says people were telling us to fuck off over and over and we did whatever we had to to make sure we locked him up.
3/17/2017 5:38:15 PM
what a weird way of looking at it
3/17/2017 5:39:32 PM
Also I have to assume at this point that Archie is off the table going forward so if this doesn't work out he wont even be on the list. Now would have been a great time to take the job so I don't think he has any interest in it whatsoever.
3/17/2017 5:42:24 PM
There's no way it's under 2 miles, right? Isn't that extremely low among current market?
3/17/2017 5:45:44 PM
yep
3/17/2017 5:46:09 PM
Yeah this means Archie said NOPE.
3/17/2017 5:46:12 PM
^and you are the only one surprised
3/17/2017 5:47:11 PM
it is the same as it has always been; good coaches don't want to risk their necks here because they will have to compete with UNC and Duke or go home.[Edited on March 17, 2017 at 5:51 PM. Reason : k]
3/17/2017 5:48:53 PM
I guess that insider guy knew what he was talking about.......Oh wait

3/17/2017 6:11:22 PM
3/17/2017 6:26:38 PM
I must have you confused with another poster that said people insisting Archie is super unlikely to come were making stuff up
3/17/2017 6:30:58 PM
This should have happened last time when Brad Brownell. Glad it happened this time. Young, positive, great recruiter, great success, main man on an adidas contract, great with the AAU circuit, recruited in state for 3 years, was pitinos #1 recruiter, is 44 years young ( Roy and coach k will be gone before he is 50 ) and I could keep rambling but I'll stop here. Quit with the damn negative posts people. It's why we are in this vicious circle!!!
3/17/2017 6:42:08 PM
Post of the year!!!"or we actually went about this the right way this time and got a good up and coming coach before he was scooped up by somebody else. we could've had Sean Miller before he was one of the best coaches in the nation. we could've had Gregg Marshall when he was still at Winthrop. instead we thought we could land a big name like Rick Barnes or Calipari or Billy Donovan...and we fucked around and got burnt. this time we put ourselves in a position to have the next big name before he is already established and in a position to turn us down.

Obviously he's leading Clemson to great heights.. I hope Keatts is great, but I don't believe it based on numbers (haven't really seen them play but once). And I really hope Archie had zero interest. I guess seeing now that they're done it's not hard to think why not wait a day, but they didn't know that (or maybe he doesn't give a shit about us)
3/17/2017 9:27:53 PM
This was a three horse race. Archie said no, search committee overwhelmingly liked Keatts over Wade. There was no reason to wait any amount of time.
3/17/2017 9:31:33 PM
If Archie decided to stay at Dayton then ok, but if he turned us down for Indiana or Ohio State then screw that guy.
3/17/2017 9:36:49 PM
I think he's holding out for Ohio State. You can't hate him for that. He's from Ohio. He obviously likes living in Ohio.]
3/17/2017 9:39:11 PM
I guess I can give him a break for wanting to stay in his home state, but he better not go to Indiana.
3/17/2017 9:41:00 PM
I'll laugh if he goes to Indiana, because he's just as likely to get fired there for not succeeding enough as he is here
3/17/2017 9:45:07 PM
I think Marshall ends up at Indiana.
3/17/2017 9:48:29 PM
Time to lock it up
3/17/2017 11:03:35 PM
Archie is probably holding out for the Butler job, the best bball job in the state of Indiana
3/17/2017 11:12:00 PM
It'll be interesting to see if Indiana waits for Alford or Marshall or gets realistic like us and targets Archie or someone similar. Marshall is just doing his annual "fein interest and get a raise" shit while Alford would be dumb to leave when he's got the youngest Ball kid coming in a few years. His job is safe at an elite job and in a shittier conference than the B1G.

Why would Ohio State be viewed as so much better than us. I know they had some decent success a few years ago but they don't have some great history in basketball do they?
3/18/2017 12:20:49 PM
I think it's the reputation behind Ohio State. They are the premier school in Ohio (really zero competition) and Ohio is a very populous state. No they don't have the basketball history, but they are a flagship school with a huge footprint and are on the national scene via their football team.[Edited on March 18, 2017 at 12:30 PM. 3/18/2017 12:29:46 PM
Fuck Ohio State and Sloopy can suck a dick.
3/18/2017 2:11:04 PM
^^ yeah. From a recent success standpoint, they're miles ahead of us.
3/18/2017 2:35:55 PM
Archie is from PA and is working in Ohio. I think the general consensus is that he loves the whole Midwest area and really wanted to stay there if he could. Thus why he'd have tOSU and IU over us. If he wasn't an alumni here, we wouldn't even be mentioned in connection with Archie. Can't fault the kid for wanting to stay in the area his family is from if he wants to. Always felt Archie would be a bad fit here personality wise. We need more Jimmy V and less Herb Sendek.
3/20/2017 9:16:23 AM
I loved Archie's numbers and would have loved to have him but I think we ended up better off with Keatts. I'll take a guy who really wanted to be here over a guy who has to be begged to come back to his and his wife's alma mater.
3/20/2017 9:34:05 AM
^After hearing that press conference, I'm sold. No need to keep talking about Archie.
3/20/2017 9:42:01 AM
^^don't get so butthurt because a guy has no interest in moving away from his family/home.
3/20/2017 10:02:21 AM
I'm cool with the hire we have. Why the obsession with having alumni as coaches? That hasn't exactly worked out great for us, or most other schools in the past.
3/20/2017 10:36:29 AM
i think people like the idea of an alumni who "gets it" and understands what it's like to be a State fan. the idea is that he's "one of us". that person is, in theory, familiar with the fan base and the tradition and may be extra motivated to succeed because he shares the same pride and love for the school as the fans. and if that coach succeeds and is good he'd be far less inclined to leave for a different job. all that sounds great, but really it shouldn't matter.

Yeah but how NC State is that? having the coaches wife blasting the refs every game...that's awesome.
3/21/2017 12:51:15 AM
^until the media starts reporting on it every game and our fan base turns it into "why does the media hate us?"
