Watched most of the last game on YouTube. Everything went pretty much as expected

--Smith is a beast, especially attacking off the dribble. His ability to finish through contact is as good as Ive seen

--Henderson looks like he'll be a smart, steady player on the wing. Didn't do much, but he's gonna help a lot

--Markell looks just as quick as Cat, and WAY more tenacious on defense. I can't remember the last time we had one great on-ball defender, let alone two (counting Smith)

--Rowan was Rowan. Smart player who can make plays when needed. He plays hard, but still looks a little heavy footed on defense. I think playing him some at stretch 4 will help our defense as a whole.


Only slightly concerning thing for me was Dorn. Yeah, he's athletic and can get to the line. But there's a difference in attacking the rim with a purpose and attacking out of control. He looked a little too wild in there on a few attempts, and he doesn't seem to have a lot of touch. Maybe it was just a one-time only thing though.

That was just the kind of game we expected.

Lots of teachable moments though. Turnovers and fouls were not great. A little too careless.

We wasted some points by hot dogging instead of playing. But thats fine, im sure the players wont do that in real games.

Smith and Dorn driving to the basket is pretty amazing to watch. I dont think Dorn isnt the star player i thought he was gonna be, cuz I think he is missing the shot, but I think he is the perfect role player that we need.

I noticed that when terry steps into a shot, he misses more often than when he just shoots. Someone needs to analyze if thats a trend and fix it.

I hate to say it, because I really wanted Anya to have a big year, but I dont think he gets much PT once Yurt is eligible. Because Hicks looks better than him as a freshman.

Kirk is insane with his athleticism. Really excited for his future, but this is definitely not his year, he still needs to develop. His Jr and Sr years could be special though. But he thinks he is durant with the outside shot and he hasnt shown he can hit it at all.

Mav and Abu look nearly ready for ACC play already and Markell will be a great backup for DSJ.

Yurt will be good as long as he gets used to not fouling all the time. It's rare to have a big man who can run and has some decent skill around the basket. I mean clearly he's already better than TBDV I think.

Yurtseven probably wasn't sure what he was allowed to do without getting called for a foul.

Dorn impressed me with almost everything he did tonight. he did a great job guarding their 4 when Mav was in as the stretch 4 offensively. Dorn and Smith seemed to deflect more balls than our guards did for weeks at a time last year.

obviously super early, but not sure I'd count on Markell being here for 4 years. obviously he's gonna take a back seat to DSJ this year, but I could see him really stepping up next year and/or as a junior and blowing up. he seemed to play a lot more within his means... didn't even notice he had 6 assists to 0 turnovers.

guessing Anya's probably not playing much this year unless our bigs get in foul trouble. he just did not seem to contribute much other than the obvious shot-blocking presence, but I'm not sure our defense this year needs that as much as it did last year.

Loved the speed of our play and loved how many scoring options we had. Obviously that will be way more difficult against better teams though.

I was at the game and I would agree with all of this except the bit about Dorn. I can only remember one out-of-control drive.

Felt like a punch in the stomach when Dorn went down and wasn't moving much. Was thankful to hear on the radio it was just a cramp. I actually don't think he will be just a solid role player. I think he will be a star in the mold of a TJ Warren. Much like TJ, he just had a knack for being in the right place to get a rebound and put back or making the right cut to get easy layups. His points were under the radar.

Defensively it looks like we will still struggle with team rotations and helps (as much as you can tell against a team like Barton), but it may not matter as much as it has in years past because we have some legit individual defensive stars. That may be what stood out the most about DSJ and Dorn to me last night. They were constantly getting their hands on the ball.

^^ I guess my expectations decreased because I had unrealistic expectations for him. (regarding my post earlier in this thread, not whoevers you quoted) So like instead of thinking he had a chance to be our second best player, I think he might be our 4th best player.

Regardless, its still early and we need to see more. So ready for Friday. Georgia Southern played a team in the same league as Barton and their result was similar to ours.

I would be stunned if Dorn was not fighting with Abu to be our second leading scorer this season. He reminded me a ton of TJ Warren as a freshman, before he was asked to be our leading scorer everynight.

Not sure last night was a great representation of the inside scording since they doubled us at the post all night and Rowan and Henderson had open threes all day.
