12/6/2011 11:14:55 PM
While I would never do that, it's still pretty awesome.

That's kinda what they do.You don't have to do it for them.

In those cases you just wait for the other person to attack you first, then it's self defense.

Yeah...those quests are where I deviate from that rule. I've got a few more quests that I haven't finished. I have both the Imperial Legion quest and the Stormcloak quest. The more I get into the story and talk to the NPCs, the more I realize that joining the Stormcloaks may not be the best idea, only because of the leader's desire for power. On the other hand, I am in SKYRIM, so why would I join the Imperial Legion when it isn't even being led by a Dragonborn (yet...muahahahaha)?On the other hand, the NPCs aren't real, and if I kill them I won't go to real prison. I'm just afraid that if my boys are watching and I kill them and they ask why...:-/[/serious]
12/7/2011 9:08:22 AM
yeah, although it's cool to see the voice commands, that is infinitely slower than mouse/keyboard combat, and effectively a gimmicky way of playing.
12/7/2011 9:58:42 AM
i killed the dude wandering the country side who was talking about how awesome his staff was. then realized it was just a staff of zombies, and i felt bad.oops.

What is the best destruction element.Frost Sucks- Slow velocity, uneffective against the undead.Between fire and lightning the choice is tough.Fire-Pros: Burn effect, less mana, high damage.Cons: Slower velocity (relative to lightning)Lightning-Pro's: Almost instantaneous velocity (good against archers and dragons), drains magicka (good against mages).Cons: Higher mana cost compared to fire, less damage than fire.
12/7/2011 10:50:09 AM
I went lightning with my mage. Just because I wanted to be all UNLIMITED POWAA!!1 .Only problem is that even though effects are instant, lightning spells don't seem to have infinite range like fire. It's much easier to hit a close flying dragon than fire/frost/arrows, but it's impossible to hit a dragon that's a long way off[Edited on December 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Reason : ]

What about the bonuses from the perks, do those influence which is better? I think lightning has a chance to disintegrate, I don't remember what the bonuses are for fire/frost.I'm guessing that they are all the same in terms of damage dealt and % chance of occurrence, they just show different visual effects.[Edited on December 7, 2011 at 11:52 AM. Fire gives them a chance to flee, which is garbage, because now I just have to chase them. Frost I think paralyzes them so you gen a free hit...basically like a sub zero ice ball.
12/7/2011 11:52:16 AM
Oh, ok. Yeah, the fire bonus sounds lame.
12/7/2011 11:53:10 AM
I thought fire did the most damage. I do fire enchants on all of my weapons
12/7/2011 1:20:53 PM
Patch 1.3 out now for PC
12/7/2011 1:21:19 PM
12/7/2011 1:28:38 PM
hopefully this fixes some of the random crashes that have been going down.
12/7/2011 1:36:18 PM
Fire seems best. The splash is absurd, Firebolt/Fireball + impact are good. Don't bother with Disintegrate, but get impact then damage perks. I haven't really noticed Frost slowing people down, but if they do less power attacks that's good - its the only thing that one shots me.If you get enchanting high, you don't need to bother with the mana cost reductions. You can get well over 100% off Destro spells with high enchanting + potion. To spam enchanting up I had a chain lightning staff that did low damage. But it stunned, and it was funny zapping a high level mage for like a minute before it runs out of mana and tries to dagger you

12/7/2011 2:35:15 PM
Wait using a staff raises enchanting? Or do you mean you raised enchanting by refilling it with soul gems?
12/7/2011 2:36:26 PM
refilling it does. chain lightning is just nice to 'use' on single mobs to whittle it down.I'm sure there's better staffs to do it with
12/7/2011 6:22:30 PM
holy crap, Mehrunes' Razor is freaking incredible! i'm slicing and dicing with this thing lol
12/7/2011 9:47:57 PM
^ how does is compare with the Blade of Woe?
12/7/2011 10:04:49 PM
that i dont know, i dont have the blade of woe. where do you get it from?
12/7/2011 10:11:20 PM
^,^^ SPOILER ALERTDo the Dark Brother Hood quest and you get it. Blade of woe (for me) does 14 dmg and mehrunes razer does 13 (by comparison, ebony for me is at 12) so i guess blade of woe does slightly more dmg and absorbs health vs the razor insta kill. I dont really use either, I went with daggers double enchanted with destruction magic over both./SPOILERS[Edited on December 7, 2011 at 10:58 PM. Reason : spaces]

^^^^^ Have you smithed the Blade of Woe? My damage on that is 44.
12/8/2011 7:10:09 AM
i have the dark brotherhood pre-quest to basically enter the sanctuary for the first time, i just haven't done it yet as i've been doing so many other freaking side quests. i haven't touched the main quest in weeks. but i may do DB now knowing about this Blade of Woe.what is the easiest way to get my smithing up? i really want to improve my magical items but my skill level isn't high enough to allow it. i think i'm like at 43 and need 60.

Buy leather and iron ingots in whiterun and make leather bracers and iron daggers.
12/8/2011 8:10:14 AM
When you enchant something, does the size of the soul gem make any difference? In previous games it would determine the initial number of charges, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. It seems that it is worth slightly more if you use a larger gem with larger soul, but is that the only plus?
12/8/2011 12:13:31 PM
I didn't even do the iron daggers, I just did leather bracers with all of the spare leather I found or bought. I didn't try to grind it for a few days though, just whenever I returned to home base from an excursion. Jewelry is a decent option too if you have the material, or the tranmute iron -> silver -> gold spell.--The biggest gripe I have with the game now (level 37) is that all of the random loot is high quality shit. It kind of breaks the ambiance that I have super sweet ebony/daedric gear when I'm finding ebony and glass in some random giant's cave...not to mention that nearly everything is worth grabbing and weighs a ton . Although, I can appreciate that the high level mobs have upgraded weaponry. I've noticed that some random alchemists will have Daedric hearts in their inventory as well.I just got my second house in Markarth or whatever, but I can tell its going to be aggravating having my loot (namely my smithing and alchemy ingredients) split up between two or more houses.
12/8/2011 12:26:55 PM
Yes, the random loot does scale and yes, that took the wind out of my -wow I just made some ebony armor- sail. Spends 4K on buying enough ebony ingots to make some armor. Finds entire set in next skeever den.One good thing though. Playing as a thief you can get quite a bit of elven gear very early on in that first main town.[Edited on December 8, 2011 at 12:36 PM. i've been using whiterun for alchemy and smithing, and windhelm for enchanting. i should probably check nexus for solitude's house mods, now that i'm thinking about it. still have a bunch of shit in markarth, all my books, normal armor, robes, food, the stuff i might sell one month of game time to work my way to a mil septims. don't really care to venture back until the guards stop asking me about the forsword quest.does anyone cook food? it's efficiency really dropped off way early for me. idk if there are recipes i'm just not unlocking? like grilled leeks.. so maybe there's something else hidden away like a stew that at least heals 25+.
12/8/2011 6:18:05 PM
Its not really the size, its the motion of the ocean. Or rather, the size of the soul in the gem. A grand soul gem with a common soul will make the same enchantment as a common soul gem with a common soul...though the grand gem enchantment will be worth more. And I agree with ^ otherwise, the soul size influences the charges and the strength of passive enchantments.I cook food, if only for the immersion of the game since I'm collecting all of these fucking cabbages anyway. They are definitely not efficient at all, but some of the higher food items that require a ton of ingredients give you long lasting stam and health buffs/regen.Speaking of, where can you get moon sugar?
12/8/2011 7:20:52 PM
I have a really dumb/stupid question. If weapon has a damage of say 34, and then underneath that it says something like, Frost damage of 20. Does that mean it does 54 points? or is it 14 (for the item) + 20 (for the frost enhancement) for a total of 34?um, hurry, I have a match or something[Edited on December 8, 2011 at 9:43 PM. 12/8/2011 9:38:24 PM
i believe thats what it means, but that value is obviously prior to armor factor and resistances.
12/8/2011 9:46:10 PM
haha, which one? I offered two possible explanations haha
12/8/2011 9:46:54 PM
whoops, the first one
12/8/2011 9:48:08 PM
Yeah, its 34 base damage then the enchantment effect on top of it
