So people in Raleigh don't get any Braves games now?Back in my day it was only TurnerSouth/Sportsouth games that we missed[Edited on August 7, 2011 at 1:44 PM. Reason : Seriously. Time lost is brain loss.]
8/7/2011 1:43:05 PM
If the game isn't on tbs/espn/mlbn/fox we don't get it. I did spend the $15 for the MLB phone app
8/7/2011 1:48:37 PM
That looked really painful to both players.

well i'm in wilmington today, on some standard cable setup at a house we're renting for the weekendbut when i am in raleigh, i only get MLB network/TBS/Fox/MASN games since directv blacks out everything else (fsn/sports south)
8/7/2011 6:38:04 PM
Ugh, this sucks, probably going to miss going to Bobby's retirement Friday and the 1991 reunion Saturday. Really need to head home to the parents. Damn real world.
8/8/2011 3:14:02 AM
^^blacks out just for the game or do you not get the channel at all?it must be a territory issue, same way FSS/SportSouth blacks out Atlanta Thrashers/Hawks games in Charlotte. I guess they consider RDU to be Nats(MASN) territory? On u-verse I don't even get MASN, yet I get almost every Reds game now on a Fox Sports station.
8/8/2011 8:20:13 AM
I, too, get most of the Reds games on FSN. But they're never on the program guide.
8/8/2011 11:42:05 AM
I get every Reds, Nats, O's, and Braves game with DirecTV in CharlotteCool in a sense that I get 4 or 5 games every night, but retarded in the sense that my neighbor with U-verse only gets Cincinnatti.
8/8/2011 11:51:54 AM
I still don't understand MLB blackout rules. I'm in the Braves territory in Greensboro, so I get every game on FSN/SS and their national games are blacked out, but they aren't blacked out on MLB.TV. And I don't understand why MLBN broadcasts two games that would be both be blacked out in some markets. Like if they're showing a Braves game as the #1 and a Reds game as the backup, I can't see either, even if the Reds game isn't on FSN here.
8/8/2011 12:03:11 PM
I think the main problem comes from relatively big markets like Charlotte and Las Vegas that don't have their own team. If we had a team here, we'd get all their games on RSN and be blacked out from all their national games that were also broadcasted locally. Easy, cut and dry, no one's confused. But the way it is now, Charlotte (and the rest of NC) are "claimed" by all these other teams as being in their territory, which apparently they all have the right to do. Considering the closest MLB park is 4 hours outside our state lines, no one from NC would go to a game in ATL or DC on a weeknight, rendering the whole argument asinine. If you like a team, and you're willing to pay to see that team play, you should be able to see 162 games. The whole setup now is just so silly.
8/8/2011 12:12:03 PM
I don't understand why any game outside of 120 mile radius is blacked out. Like I'm going to wake up tomorrow and drive 400 miles to go see a game just because it's blacked out.[Edited on August 8, 2011 at 12:27 PM. Reason : Mile]
8/8/2011 12:19:59 PM
Baseball is stupid in the way it markets itself, its teams, and its players. The TV blackout crap is very obvious example of this. As for the Braves, glad Chipper came through. Braves pitched like shit all weekend and managed two wins. Bourne and Costanza playing very well so far. Maybe Heyward's HR yesterday will get his confidence back. At least the offense is starting to look better even though the pitching is headed south. Gotta keep rooting against the Dbacks, Cards, and Giants.[Edited on August 8, 2011 at 1:33 PM. Reason : fg]
8/8/2011 1:33:32 PM
MLB also sucks at marketing their own players. Obviously every sport has its few guys that are in every other commercial. But football puts Suh and Matthews in ads. Basketball puts Jennings and Wall. Baseball commercials feature Jeter, Arod, Pujols, Brian Wilson or Papi. Learn how to market your young players. Put Justin Upton in a commercial. Put Mike Stanton on the side of a bus. No wonder basketball and football are so much more popular among young kids today. They know who more than half a dozen players are.
8/8/2011 1:46:12 PM
^Not trying to stereotype or be racist, but I think another factor is that most African American kids could care less about baseball. MLB should try to market to African Americans better. MLB should market players like Heyward, McCutchen, Granderson, etc.
8/8/2011 2:34:38 PM
^guess youve never heard of RBI
8/8/2011 2:44:47 PM
letting Ryan Howard hit homeruns with a $5 footlong is not acceptable marketing.
8/8/2011 2:44:54 PM
Heyward is in a Sportscenter commercialInner-city black kids are never going to care about baseball. Play to your strengths, old white guys and Dominicans.]
8/8/2011 2:56:00 PM
Its more the markets than the ethnicities. Unless you play in NY, Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, or LA, then you're pretty much much fucked from a marketing perspective, unless you grow a massive beard and act like an eccentric asshole or win the MVP by starring in dandruff commercials or coming back from a smack addiction.
8/8/2011 3:09:14 PM
who's a black kid gonna go out and throw the baseball with when he's young? he doesn't know who the fuck his father is. jkbaseball is a richer person sport. you can't just buy a baseball and go play like soccer or basketball. you need gloves, bats, a few balls probably, another team, umps..football is just another monster on its own.
8/8/2011 3:33:12 PM
Fucking stuck up rich kids with their fancy gear. Makes me sick.
8/8/2011 3:40:21 PM
It's an upper middle class sport in the US. In Latin American countries it's the only way to get the fuck out of Latin America. Not a very astute comparison.

8/8/2011 3:47:10 PM
He travelled from one favela to another with his stick and milk carton glove.
8/8/2011 3:48:51 PM
i helped coach a babe ruth team this past summer. probably 30-40% of our league was black, actually. but they were all from henderson/franklinton.also, the team from western nc that made it to the southeast regional was almost entirely black, but a lot of their kids were from/going to A&T or Central or shit like that.
