I hate agreeing with quaggy.

wow, indy, you're just all kinds of wrong here. The ban will never be fully repealed. There just isn't enough of an outcry. Besides, when you have smokers who AGREE with the ban, they fully outweigh non-smokers who DISAGREE with the ban.

I just hate that I can't get first available seating in a restaurant any more.

I will sacrifice my health to get seated quicker.

Either way they were standing around outside, craning their necks to see inside where the game(s) were on TV.

Funny how people were going on and on about how Cup A Joe would probably have to shut down after going non smoking and that place is packed out every damn time I'm there.

So it's not cold anymore and they're not that uncomfortable out there. Last night they were standing around in the rain, though.

It's gonna suck when us non-smokers want to move out to the outdoor seating area though. Maybe we can get this ban extended to all bar/restaurant property and not just the inside...

You people are still trying to figure this out? Let me break it down for you:

If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen.
If you don't like the smoke, get out of the bar.

Now quit fucking using the government to try to shape society. That shit never works, son.

^I don't smoke. A cigarette has never touched my lips.

I'm man enough to deal with my own problems instead of running and crying to the government to shelter me.

Who went crying to the government? I dealt with it and never once complained. Doesn't mean I'm not thrilled with the smoking ban!

In fact, I'm about to go enjoy a few beers in a nice smoke-free environment in about 90 minutes. Can't wait!

I've seen a lot more bars and restaurants around the Charlotte area opening new patios, or expanding additional ones.

Oh, please. You think nobody wrote Raleigh asking for the ban? That's just plain fucking dumb. Seriously. Sure maybe you didn't, but somebody did.

You could have done that before the ban.

I'm in SC. Later tonight i'm going to go to a nice smoke filled restaurant. Not because I like the smoke, but because i'll be enjoying the smell of free will. The owner is free to allow smoking and i'm free to not enter if I don't like it.

It's funny to me when I overhear smokers at my work (NCSU) bitching about having to be >25' away from a door to smoke, and how the state is not accommodating them, and by god, RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE.

I happen to know that at least one of them is militant about this "sanctity of marriage" bullshit.

I'm sorry but that's what every argument for the smoking ban boils down to. You can twist it however you want, make up some little quip and laugh about it, whatever it takes to make you feel better about abusing the power of government.

They just announced that with the new healthcare reform there will not be enough money to run the random spot checking they planned for this ban- otherwords, a business is gonna need to rack up a shit ton of complaints for this to be investigated, and smaller local place could easily become a "speak-easy" of sorts for smokers.

just curious

how many of the people who either support(ed) or favor(ed) this ban are also in favor of legalizing marijuana

Tel Aviv is like this except since Israelis aren't whining, crying American bitches nobody reports any bar of any size

You can also smoke hash and weed in bars there because either there are less tattle-tale pricks or because they have actual problems to worry about

I, for one, am glad they are banning exploding things from checked bags.

And also from being used on planes. That shit stinks. I don't want to smell your froot loops flavored shit for 2 hours in a confined space.

Militant anti-smokers are fucking annoying. The whole not being allowed to smoke outside is stupid as shit. Second hand smoke is considerably less dangerous than car exhaust.

If you want to smoke in your own house or if you want to open a business that allows smoking you ought to be able to do so.

Smoking is fucking awful for you, it's a terrible habit, but spare me your pretend cough when you walk by some guy smoking next to his car in the parking lot.

The article says

Quote :
"“We know from recent incidents that e-cigarettes in checked bags can catch fire during transport,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in statement announcing the new federal rule. “Fire hazards in flight are particularly dangerous. Banning e-cigarettes from checked bags is a prudent safety measure.”"

Fire hazards in flight are obviously dangerous. But I've never heard of e-cigarettes "catching fire during transport."

Some quick research yields this:

Quote :
"Specifically, it's e-cigarettes' lithium-ion batteries that combust. These batteries are also found in laptops and cellphones. But with e-cigarettes, the batteries are especially prone to overheating because smokers use incompatible chargers, overcharge the e-cigarettes, or don't take sufficient safety precautions. For example, many e-cigarettes are made to plug into a USB port, which smokers may take to mean the devices can be safely charged with a computer or iPad charger. But if left too long in a common USB port, some e-cigarette batteries can fry."

If that's the case, it sounds like all cellphones and laptops should not only be banned from checked bags, but also strictly prohibited from being transported at all. I mean, people might use a non-OEM charger and catch the plane on fire...
