Dude, I ain't going to lie, its going to be hard to play any RPG that's not Fallout
12/9/2008 8:50:48 AM
It plays pretty similarly, only you don't have to "look at" things, and the cursor is dynamic (so you don't have to right-click between different types of interaction). And the graphics are slightly better, of course. Well, and there's the whole thing of Action Points as opposed to... DnD-based combat which is techinically turn-based but plays as though it is real-time.But besides that they play pretty similarly.
12/9/2008 8:54:25 AM
Does it have guns?
12/9/2008 8:55:11 AM
No. But it has magic, which does things.Anyway, BG1/2 are basically the best RPGs Bioware has made so far. Which, naturally, pretty much makes them the greatest RPGs ever created. If that doesn't convince you, there's probably nothing that will.
12/9/2008 8:58:38 AM
I am just not that really into magic, that's why I could not hack Oblivion. I might give it a shot tho, since RPG in that day and age plays differently than the ones of the current gen. I don't doubt it being a great game for a sec.
12/9/2008 9:00:31 AM
Yeah, Oblivion magic is nothing at all like DnD-based magic. For one thing, they run on an entirely different engine. In terms of actual use, your available spells in DnD run off of what you've learned from scrolls, and what you can cast is based on your character's level. Whereas Oblivion requires you to just repeatedly cast the same spells over and over again to level your healing/conjuration/whatever-class while you run around the map.Just as a note, there are a LOT of spells in Baldur's Gate. A whole ton of them. But most of them are useless and the best strategy is usually to go with just direct-damage spells or protection spells. And in BG2 you also need a healthy dose of anti-caster spells to dispel enemy protections.Anyway, to avoid derailing the Fallout thread any further, if you do decide to play Baldur's Gate, feel free to PM me with any questions about the game.
12/9/2008 9:06:11 AM
Good riddance... I'm kidding This for the info tho, I might just play this game. Now back to FO3... or any FO.
12/9/2008 9:08:41 AM
I know this might be old to the Fallout OGs, but I had to show this to the Fallout 3-only-fans that have found the Alien Crash site.
12/9/2008 5:20:37 PM
It's a random encounter, not a specific location. It depends on your luck and your outdoorsman skill on how many random encounters you get to see.
12/9/2008 9:49:16 PM
never got the alien blastergot just about every other random encounteryou get bored during 9th grade weekday nights....
12/9/2008 9:50:51 PM
^^ That good to know I got something random that was great from my love for high luck! I have luck at 7 and I have 37% Outdoorsman skill.

Fallout 1 and 2 should be embedded in the Pip Boy 3000. When you just get tired of Fallout 3 whip out FO1/2 on the fly! Seriously, these games should be unlocked and embedded in the Pip Boy 3000 after the completion of the game, this would give the game HUGE replay value for me. I'd go out and buy a copy of the specially modified edition of the game as soon as it hit the shelf! Fallout 3 is a great game, but FO1/2 have a certain charm and addictiveness to it.

G.E.C.K. Released!http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/geck.html
12/11/2008 5:06:05 PM
why are they releasing new content when they haven't fixed the old?this shit scares me
12/11/2008 5:45:45 PM
It's the construction set. It's not really new content.
12/11/2008 5:50:49 PM
Awsome! Can't wait to try that out!
12/11/2008 6:00:07 PM
I wish I had a PC that would run FO3. This is an incredible tool. I am sure long time PC gamers are used to such toys, but I am not. Shits sick.
12/11/2008 6:01:02 PM
well i hope you guys test the stuff you build better than they did

New article on dlc. My favorite tidbit is at the end. "Based on a lot of feedback, we're going to allow the player to continue on after the main quest ends in the Broken Steel DLC."http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/937/937202p1.html
12/11/2008 6:32:13 PM
^Damn, thats pretty badass. Sounds like there's gonna be some squad leader action and a bunch of new weapons to bring back into the main game. To me, thats worth the $10. Especially for another 4 or 5 hours' worth of play time.
12/11/2008 6:48:31 PM
I started playing Oblivion again and realized just how few items/weapons are available in FO3. I'm glad the DLC will fix that, even if it's just a little bit.
12/11/2008 11:34:16 PM
i like the lack of weapons, makes everything easier to deal withi don't mind them adding some but i don't want it to end up oblvion style where i found no less than 10 differen't swords in a single dungeon
12/12/2008 12:33:39 AM
I disagree. The more variety the better.
12/12/2008 12:36:58 AM
Oblivion's weapon variety was deceptive.Sure, there were like 10 kinds of each weapon and armor, but once you found the next level the previous one became worthless.
12/12/2008 12:47:04 AM
I prefer F3's system of having various weapon sets (hunting rifles, laser pistols, ect) that do varying damage based on their level of repair, with some uniques sitting around in the world.Oblivion's was basically just a few different kids of weapons (swords, daggers, bows, ect) with different types that got stronger with each iteration (Glass > Elven > Steel > ect, or whatever the order was). And it also had the occasional unique which may or may not have been better than just adding an enchantment to a glass weapon for yourself. Was kinda lame. Also, I'm pretty certain that Fallout 3 has a much better variety in armors than Oblivion did. Or maybe it just seems like it, since Oblivion did armor much the same way it did weapons... a few different kinds that got better depending on what they're made of.
12/12/2008 1:09:52 AM
many games try to add hundreds of weapons but then realize 95% of them are copies of each other and even then only a few are actually fun to use. I think Fallout 3 managed this a lot better than oblivion, where you just seemed to upgrade the same sword or sledgehammer over and over again. Death animations are also very key in this struggle.I'm Big Business and i approved this message./]
12/12/2008 1:15:57 AM
i agree with adding some maybe one or 2 more to each set but i don't want to see too many added, it would just water it down in my opinion maybe a .357 an M16 clone, perhaps a 10guage shotgun(maybe a break action single barrel) or perhaps adding an M79(an explosive small gun)i'd honestly like to see better zoom on the scopes personally
12/12/2008 1:59:13 AM
Yeah, making the scope a bit better would be nice. Also, they REALLY need to line up the fucking reticle with the center of fire. It's slightly off.Ol' Painless is one of the only weapons in the game with 0 spread... in other words, it's going to hit the exact same spot every time you fire it, and on an FPS that spot is SUPPOSED to be the center of the reticle... but in this game, that spot is just slightly above and to the left of the center of the reticle. I would always get pissed when trying to stealth-kill people from a distance until I found this fact out. It's kind of a glaring error that I'm surprised they hadn't caught before release. I mean, they got it extremely close to being right, but that sort of thing is kind of crucial in a game with guns.[Edited on December 12, 2008 at 2:09 AM. Reason : .]
12/12/2008 2:03:24 AM
If they add a bunch more guns, they had better make them reparable with similar guns already in the game (like all raider armors can be repaired together for example). It would suck to have a bunch of new rare weapons that were always basically worthless because you couldn't find enough to keep them in good repair. They like tripled the weapons from fallout 1 to fallout 2, but it wasn't a big deal because they were always in perfect condition.
12/12/2008 2:15:05 AM
A skill that I think is essential in FO1/2 is steal. I just found this out last night. I might try a weird build with steal, outdoorsman, and small guns tagged, with 10 luck, 10 agility, and fast shot and gifted. Is thief in FO3 just as good as steal in FO1/2?
12/12/2008 8:29:39 AM
it's so easy to steal things in FO3, why would you need any additional perks for it?
12/12/2008 8:31:48 AM
For pickpocketing actually. That's why I am asking... I know steal is great in FO1/2, but how does is compare to thief in FO3. FYI, I NEVER stole anything my FO3 because I wanted perfect Karma...
12/12/2008 8:36:32 AM
Pickpocketing is pretty useless. You'd just get more of things that are already plentiful in the environment w/o stealing.Caps: You really don't need more caps. I'm sitting on like 16,000 with nothing to spend them on... and I wasn't even trying to amass a fortune.Occasional weapon: Yeah, they're easy to find as wellSimpacks: I think I have like 200 now. I hardly use them. The only good thing you could pickpocket would be a key - where it opens certain locks that just can't be picked. Even then you'll just find more of the same - caps, weapons, simpacks, etc. in those locked containers. All the good stuff is out in the open (skill books and bobbleheads).[Edited on December 12, 2008 at 8:48 AM. Reason : -]
12/12/2008 8:46:48 AM
That a good explanation, in FO1/2 steal is VERY useful, especially in the first 1/5 of the game so you can go ahead and get on your feet, and steal some badass weapons and stimpaks. Caps and stimpaks mean MUCH more here than in FO3.
12/12/2008 8:54:49 AM
http://www.gametap.com/play/gameDetails/000587850Free Fallout 1. I dunno what version it is, meaning that I paid $6 for v1.2 that had all patches and stuff included and don't have (nearly) the amount of bugs as the original release. The only known issue with this version is that the screen goes black sometimes, and mines never does that, so it may be a point version or so older than mine.

12/12/2008 10:06:28 AM
^No, that's not it. Your weapon skill does change where the bullet goes, but as far as I know that's just spread-wise, not altering the center of fire itself. Besides that, I've got 100 small guns and am talking about using a small gun that has absolutely no spread. Fact is that the reticle is just slightly off. Not enough to matter at close to mid range, but from long/very-long range, I always need to compensate. I'm talking about trying to stealth-kill a barn full of raiders from at or just beyond the range of perception... anything much closer and the reticle difference really doesn't make any noticable impact.[Edited on December 13, 2008 at 1:00 AM. 12/13/2008 12:54:53 AM
Whats your agility at, anything less than 10 might influence it in a bad way (for FO3), even if small guns is at 100.[Edited on December 14, 2008 at 12:25 PM. Reason : .]

I finished this game at lvl 13, so i guess i skipped a few quests. I mean i finished every quest i was confronted with but I didn't spend all day talking to every single person in every town and trying every possible conversation.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

^ then yeah, you missed some quests
12/14/2008 3:10:49 PM
After a raw assessment, FO2 hands down is the best of the series - content and objectives, and sheer complexity. However, nominally, FO3 is the best.

At a 94% chance of hitting, that's some pretty bad luck for the poor journalist.

Hah, thats hilarious, it would only be topped by one of the FO3 slo-mo camera shots following the shoe as passes by Bush.
