hi, I'm last week...have we met before?just go back to your little ole 360 and stop trolling...you suck at it compared to others[Edited on July 17, 2007 at 1:42 PM. Reason : .]

Ok, here's how it breaks down. Sony has (had) around 3 million 60GB PS3s sitting on store shelves. They want to get rid of them, so they can introduce the 80GB PS3. This 80GB PS3 is actually cheaper to produce than the 60GB PS3 because it completely gets rid of the PS2 hardware inside, and moves to 100% software emulation. 20GBs of hard drive space is more or less negligible price wise, and it's actually been rumored that 80GB drives are cheaper to source than 60GB drives. So they want to get rid of this backlog of 60GB PS3s by "dropping" the price to $499.99 and replace them with the cheaper to produce 80GB model. Once the 60GBs are all gone, they will drop the price of the 80GB to $499.99. I don't see how you can criticize Sony for this move, it's extremely smart from a business standpoint. Convince people that this is their chance to get a PS3 at a reduced price, clear the shelves of all existing PS3 stock, and replace it with a cheaper to produce version which will very shortly be selling for the same $499.99 price for the holiday season.

now there's rumors of a 40gb ps3 coming out for $399...also,anyone have motorstorm or resistance to sell me?
7/17/2007 2:27:46 PM
^ I dunno, but you definitely need to get those games. Also, if you want to have fun with your buddies get Calling All Cars. I'm still waiting for a TWW CAC game. When the hell is that going to happen?

^It's the same emulation thats been used in the PAL region PS3s since release. There have been very few complaints from owners in those regions about backwards compatibility, and its still better than the shaft Microsoft gave and is still giving XBox owners who bought a 360.And why should Sony reward anyone? Has any company, ever, in the history of electronics "rewarded" early adopters. That's probably the stupidest thing anyone has ever said in this thread. Did Toshiba reward early adopters who spent $500 on an HD-A1 after replacing it a few months later with the cheaper and superior A2. Have AMD and Intel ever rewarded people who buy their processors and then have them drop 25-50% in price less than 2 months later. You act like Sony somehow duped or tricked people into giving up $600. If anything, dropping the price is rewarding early adopters, because it means Sony is now taking a more aggressive stance and is going to do everything they can do make sure that $600 was well spent.
7/17/2007 5:58:27 PM
off the top of my head...yes.Nintendo: free web browser for people who got the Wii in the first couple months. Doesn't have to be big, just a small gesture of appreciation of "Hey, thanks for making our product popular."Oh and are you fucking kidding me on the European backwards compatibility issue? Thats a big issue over there. I think right now the number is around 70% of all ps2 games have noticeable issues on the ps3.http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htmLook at games which have big issuesDevil May CryGod of WarGrand Turismoetc Popular games, not just the shitty no name ones.So please, before you call any ones post "the stupidest thing anyone has said in this thread"..make sure you know what the fuck you're talking aboutbecause I think
7/17/2007 6:00:17 PM
Hey now, if being able to play Motorstorm and generic console FPS #5 six months before everyone else isn't reason enough to spend $100, then I don't know what is.
7/17/2007 6:29:53 PM
7/17/2007 6:31:49 PM
Um dude, The European site is the PAL region...which you were talking about. However, I do stand corrected, on the percentage thing. I wasn't very clearSo to clarify, 30% of all PS2 Games DON'T WORK. The rest prolly have some minor issues. Among those that have serious issues are the games I listed. Is that clear enough for you fucktard? No emotion chip = PAL region Ps3 = Europe = The new 80 gig model for the usOh , and the homebrew games on sites like http://www.wiicade.com keep me entertained for a fair piece of timea[Edited on July 17, 2007 at 6:42 PM. 7/17/2007 6:37:22 PM
Wait, you can read after all? Yes, it's the European region. Will US gamers be buying PAL PS3s? No. My whole comment was that European gamers havn't been complaining about their PS3s backwards compatibility, which they haven't. It's a non-issue, it's not stopping anyone from buying a PS3 in Europe. Also, NTSC backwards compatibility is almost universally better with all consoles, and that will almost certainly be the case with the new PS3. It's a cost cutting decision by Sony that will cost gamers almost nothing. The only reason they put the emotion engine in the PS3 in the first place was not to fuck over early adopters (you know, those people you wanted rewarded earlier, well there you go) like Microsoft did.

7/17/2007 7:03:26 PM
Look, I own a Wii. I even like the thing, I think it's a pretty neat device. However, I'm not kidding myself into thinking its a next gen system. It's not. At best, it's an overclocked Gamecube in a smaller form factor with a new controller. So of course backwards compatibility is gonna be better. Hell, one of it's biggest selling points is playing decades old games on it. Have you ever tried to run old PC games on a newer machines? It's not an easy venture, and usually requires all sorts of patches and hacks. The fact that the PS3 (with our without EE) can not only play the majority of PS/PS2 games, but also upscale them and apply anti-aliasing is an impressive feat, and something it's main competition can't claim to do.
7/17/2007 7:19:57 PM
Just because it went another direction than the ps3 and xbox 360 makes it non-next gen? I suppose the PSP is also on a whole other level than the DS as well[Edited on July 17, 2007 at 7:26 PM. Reason : a]
7/17/2007 7:25:40 PM
Yes and yes. Nintendo knew they couldn't compete in the hardware war with huge conglomerates like Sony and Microsoft anymore. 2 failed systems taught them that. So with the Wii, they are aiming for a completely different market and are leaving Sony and Microsoft to their own devices. Same with the PSP, Sony knew they weren't going to be able to do any significant damage Nintendo's Gameboy dominance, so they aimed the PSP at people who wanted to do more than just play games on their mobile device.
7/17/2007 7:30:03 PM
Innovation = next gen. Nintendo starting rumble controllers, now its pretty much standard.Nintendo adding motion sensing, Sony copied it.The Wii is more next gen than the PS3 and the Xbox. The Wii represents the next evolution of game consoles instead of just making the graphics prettier.
7/17/2007 7:35:14 PM
i think the ps3's and (particularly) 360's online aspects are next-gen. demo's, trailers, new levels of connectivity to the console market. quite unlike any system before.
7/17/2007 7:40:27 PM
Is there any proof that Sixaxis copied Wiimote? And didn't Sony's Eyetoy predate both them? Look, you can go on and on about how the Wii is revolutionizing gaming, but as of today its best games (Zelda and RE4) are both Gamecube ports. Nintendo has delivered are really neat idea, and reaped the rewards of an attractive price point, but thats it so far. If they wanna sustain anything, they have to start delivering some games for gamers.[Edited on July 17, 2007 at 7:42 PM. Reason : :]
7/17/2007 7:41:01 PM
I would agree that stuff like that should be considered next-gen. I mean the X-box live service is really amazing, and PS Home looks pretty sweet as well. Thats what makes next-gen, next gen. Not just better graphics and more memory.
7/17/2007 7:41:53 PM
7/17/2007 7:42:31 PM
even if they are ports, I would play Twilight Princess over any game on the PS3 right now
7/17/2007 7:42:44 PM
^Now that is something I can agree with you on
7/17/2007 7:45:00 PM
i believe sony had motion-sensing controller patents before nintendonintendo did it better however because they made it the main focus of their system instead of an extra

And if it weren't for the Wii thread being filled with people asking where one can be found since Nintendo can't keep up with demand, it wouldn't be half as long. If it weren't people bitching about their broke 360's, that thread wouldn't be nearly as long either. See, I can play this game too
