or maybe he believes in the wolfpack, and he stays all four years because he wants to (hundred and thirty seven pages).[Edited on November 8, 2010 at 2:40 PM. Reason : ]

Imagine the following: CJ Leslie has a good, not great year (I think this will happen) and could be drafted on potential after the season, however, the NBA Lockout happens, and he decides to stay another year. His sophomore year, he starts to shine as he's putting on a little weight and has started to find a jumpshot. State shows a lot of promise after finishing the season with an Elite 8 or Sweet 16 finish. A lot of other big names leave in a more loaded than normal draft thanks to the Lockout keeping many players in college an extra year that would normally leave early. Now his choices would be leave, maybe get taken a little later than he'd want to be, or come back for a possibly better draft position the next year, and a potential run at a final four. Now this is all completely hypothetical, but if you're in that position what do you do?
11/8/2010 2:55:39 PM
so basically if we have zero interest in NBA we should root like hell for a lockout?
11/8/2010 2:57:18 PM
IMO no way does leslie stay longer than 2 years. even if it'd be smarter to stay 3, as the case might be in your hypothetical scenario.

indeed. if you're a lottery pick and don't go, that's just a bad decision.
11/8/2010 3:40:24 PM
^usually. but if you were borderline lottery and you work your way up to top 5 or something while getting a championship in college it could be worth it

^Football players are more likely to be injured. Better example would be Josh McRoberts
11/8/2010 4:55:22 PM
I agree that staying in school is a bad decision. We will see how it works out for Singler this year.
11/8/2010 4:56:09 PM
the thing about an NBA lockout is, it effects EVERY team.if CJL stays. so does Barnes, Irving, Kentuckys players, etc.
11/8/2010 5:17:07 PM
^hence the loaded draft class the next year.
11/8/2010 5:29:35 PM
For everyone who says CJL is definitely gone after 1-2 years, and if he's still here our team has underachieved, I present to you the sad case of Kelvin Torbert[Edited on November 9, 2010 at 10:26 AM. Reason : x]

$3 million a year, at least (and I'm going off JJ Hickson, who was our last one and done... I think). What's $3 million after 6 or 8 years of making $3 million? Plus if he's a star and he gets the commercials and endorsements, he makes ridiculous amounts.I can see how spending $3 million of my future earnings would be a worthwhile investment if I:a. loved the packb. thought I could win an NCAA title, andc. might increase my draft stock

11/10/2010 10:57:08 PM
i really don't care we didn't get angel
11/10/2010 11:05:04 PM

Angel was a recruit. He made a comment about him. I'd say that's a valid post in a recruiting thread.
11/11/2010 12:41:42 AM
With a lockout, we would also benefit because we have lots of open schollys ...If everyone stays at other schools ... schollys will not be there for some teams to keep commitments to signed players ...Dont have time to research specific examples, but just something that crossed my mind.
11/11/2010 10:00:36 AM
hershculez, instead of looking for an argument, look up a few things about how we are recruiting, and then you won't ask stupid questions like that.
11/11/2010 12:26:14 PM
it's not a stupid question.speaking only for myself (and hershculez), the simple fact that you did not care about losing a recruit is not of interest. maybe if you said why or made some sort of informed statement it would be, but i don't take it on faith that you know what you're talking about. i in fact do the opposite.
11/11/2010 1:03:51 PM
11/11/2010 1:27:00 PM
that does not explain how him repeating his sentiment adds value to the thread.also, i'll just say it: you're a fucking tosser if you think you know more about what players we should and should not recruit than a coaching staff that has resources including, but not limited to:- knowledge of basketball- a recruiting budget- experience evaluating players- a plan for the basketball program that they actually have an ability to implement.]
11/11/2010 1:35:30 PM
and you bitching about it doesn't add value either, so let's call it a wash. Are you really pulling out the old "coaches know more than you do" argument? Cause that shit is played out. If we can't discuss/criticize/praise coaching decisions and recruiting then what the fuck are we posting on here for?[Edited on November 11, 2010 at 1:40 PM. Reason : .]

^^^dude nobody gives a shit about whatever excessively narrow designs you have in your head for what this thread should be, you didn't start the thread and you aren't the thread police so just give it up. This is a thread for discussing recruiting, and that's exactly what we were doing before you came in and started bitching about nonsense. [Edited on November 11, 2010 at 1:55 PM. Reason : .]

attn: simonn, whether you think my opinion on a recruit means anything, there are those who believe I am decently informed on basketball recruiting and do value my opinion. look no further than my scout.com inbox or even my inbox on TWW for reference. at no point do I ever claim to know more about who we should be getting than Sid Lowe, and if you look at my posting history between all the various NC State related sites, you'll see that I am one of his biggest supporters and have been since day one. what's a forum if not a place for discussion? if you wanna troll take it to chit chat.

As far as Vandy, I'm still glad we picked him up. We had a scholarship to give, we needed a big man, and he's athletic and 7'+. I still think he's going to be an asset to this team. Probably moreso down the road. He hasn't even started his sophomore season yet. That's why I'm glad we got him.As far as Angel, I am a little diapointed that we didn't get him. We could really use a role pg in the '11 class, and it's not likely that we're going to get a 4 or 5*, knowing that he'll be backing up Harrow for a few years, and knowing we already have another 5* coming in in '12. W/o an '11 pg, we have noone to back up Harrow except for Brown and walk-ons. That's why I'm disapointed we didn't get Angel. Hopefully Sid still has a trick up his sleeve.V Way to add to the discussion big guy. 4*, #9 pg in '12, according to scout. Point still stands. [Edited on November 11, 2010 at 3:59 PM. Reason : ]

There are a couple more guys whose names pop up from time to time, so don't completely write off getting a PG/combo guard (combo guard being the key because I've said for months that's what makes sense to me, and only have to add emphasis to that now that we have a true PG locked up for 2012) But with scholarship spacing, who knows what will happen. Just to map it out here's what it looks like:2011 seniors:JaviTracy2012 senior:CJW2013 seniors:WoodHowellPainterVandy2014 seniors:HarrowBrownCJL3 vacant.2011 class (2015 seniors):HarrisJU[3 vacant]2012 class (2016 seniors):Lewis[3 vacant]If we use 2 more scholarships (on say Daniels and a combo guard) and assume CJL is gone by the time the 2012 class enrolls (which would mean he stays 1-2 years) that means that we'd have room for 2 more in a 2012 class where we are in good positions for a lot of good talents.
