ha, it's not your fault. i should've done some more reading on the shop. i was just excited to actually find one. i paid on the high side, but at least i got exactly what i wanted. i appreciate you giving me the heads up.just another reminder of why i usually stay the hell out of brick and mortar gun shops.
3/1/2014 11:50:10 PM
there are 3 maybe 4 decent guys in the shop counting larry hyatt himself.occasionally they have decent ammo prices but not usually. i feel bad for the dumb saps they pay whatever those guns are marked; they expect you to haggle.2 guys there are super racist and its painful to watch them deal with black customers. if i wasnt such a pussy i would say something. dunno about their reloading stuff. i think i got a good deal once i bought a fox of 500 bullets, 420gr .458 caliber for a 45/70. i thought it was a good deal at 29.99. they were just regular cast lead, no gas checks.

Just bought a KAK buffer tube and Sig Arm BraceThe KAK is longer and has a shoulder, making the brace sit farther from the receiver. This will let me build my 9mm without waiting for another stamp.I have a gen 2 tube, which has a retainer, and more contour to it. Also that is a CAA side saddle and not a sig arm brace, but the theory is the same.google image:[Edited on March 6, 2014 at 10:39 AM. Reason : .]
3/6/2014 10:36:52 AM
How well do those "arm braces" work when shouldered instead. I have only seen pictures so I am not sure if it really is a viable option getting around a stamp or a shitty workaround that will leave me wanting more. I mean, of course I would only use it as an arm brace as designed....
3/6/2014 11:46:25 AM
of course I would only use it as an arm brace as designed as well.....But, with the longer tube, it is pretty much no different than a stock. It is even reinforced in the area that would theoretically align with the shoulder.
3/6/2014 2:00:11 PM
do you buy your AR pistols online, or do stores around here carry them?
3/6/2014 3:35:59 PM
Yes.USA Tactical in statesville sells them as well as Shooters Express in Belmont (that I know for sure)Most gun stores that sell AR will sell them, or may stock them.It is still cheaper to build one on your own than buy one.
3/6/2014 4:14:31 PM
to build one, you'd have to get a stripped lower that's registered as a pistol already, right?
3/6/2014 8:01:14 PM
Nope, just a new stripped lower. You can build it however you want, and there is nothing registered about it.
3/6/2014 8:21:52 PM
As long as it has never had a stock on it you can make it a pistol.
3/6/2014 9:19:47 PM
finally got some ammo for the M1A loaded tonight.
3/6/2014 9:49:37 PM
you plan on putting a scope on it or are you going to keep it as an iron sight battle rifle? I keep waffling back and forth on whether or not to scope mine. It's fun as hell to run at the range with iron sights, but sometimes I want to stretch the legs on it some and see what it's capable of.
3/6/2014 11:18:28 PM
irons only. that's half the reason i bought it.[Edited on March 7, 2014 at 1:03 PM. Reason : 168 gr SMKs over IMR 4895, btw]

Worked on a couple builds last night. Missing some Magpul parts, but those will go on before these get any real use.DDLES Glock 'pistol' w/10" barrel and MidwestPX Billet lower:The yankee hill tube is going away, and a Samson Evo Rail is being put on the glock build. I have the rail already, but need an upper vice block to change the barrel nut.
3/13/2014 9:40:48 AM
none of those picture links work.
3/13/2014 11:06:23 AM
How about now?
3/13/2014 11:12:48 AM
no. might be something with access permissions on photo bucket.
3/13/2014 12:59:47 PM
they work for me.
3/13/2014 1:19:26 PM
work for me
3/13/2014 5:34:00 PM
What upper did you use for the 9mm? Did you get an ADCO bolt?
3/13/2014 8:44:51 PM
I bought it used, so I don't know what brand upper, but it has the keyhole forge mark. BCG was done based on an adco bolt, but done by the previous owner. I got the barrel nut swapped and the Samson 10" rail put on. I have a fake can on the way, until, the real one shows up. The flash hider is only there as a thread protector.

at Academy this morning:White-trashy old woman is looking at ammo handgun ammo in the aisle.store guy behind gun counter: can I help you find anything?woman: I'm looking for 38; is this 38 something-or-other (I can't remember what she said; she didn't say "auto" or "acp") going to work?store guy: No that's for a semi-auto. You'll need 38 special if you've got a revolverwoman: OK so do you have any of that?store guy: No we don't have any at the moment.woman has some sort of disgusted reaction: well, do you have any 44?store guy: No, none of that right now eitherwoman: *disgusted reaction* golleee.woman moves to the adjacent ammo shelf: how about 7.62 by 54?store guy: you mean like for a bolt-action rifle?woman: yeahstore guy: sure, we've got a box on the bottom there. there's 350 rounds in a metal can and it's $150woman: *disgusted reaction* you can forget that. how about this 7.62 by 39?store guy: no that's going to work for that riflewoman: I've got another onestore guy: oh, well then yes, it should workwoman looks at price, scoffs, and storms off in white trash fashion. If you're going to buy some god damned ammo, know that there is an ammo shortage and that ammo costs money kthx.(the 7.62x39 was Academy's in-house brand, steel-cased stuff around $5/box)
3/15/2014 10:53:48 PM
people still buy ammo in stores?
3/16/2014 11:25:54 AM
that's what i was thinkingand is there really a shortage on anything besides .22LR and .22WMR anymore?
3/16/2014 11:59:14 AM
Not that I can tell. I decided to walk past the ammo counter at Walmart yesterday for giggles and it was fully stocked again, save for .22.Their prices are still ridiculous, but the supply is there.
3/16/2014 5:43:02 PM
The whole .22 shortage is so fucking stupid, it is like people stockpiling bird shot
3/16/2014 6:17:30 PM
it isn't even folks stockpiling it now. folks who don't have to be at work in the morning go stand in line at walmart, dick's, etc. and get their daily rations until they're sold out. they then flip it at a huge mark-up.a lot of them are in cahoots with the walmart employees and give them a cut to hold ammo for them.folks who can't go stand in line go to walmart after work and can't find .22LR and think "OMG, obama dun tuk r ammoz" and go pay $50 for a 550 box of federal fodder that LGS Ricky just bought that morning for $20 at walmart. it's a vicious cycle that will be hard to break at this point.
3/16/2014 9:01:27 PM
well if the zombies are soggy mush like in the walking dead it will be a useful caliber.
3/16/2014 9:04:19 PM
Academy's in-house brand (Monarch) beats out online prices when you factor shippingbrass 9mm fmj $13 (i'd buy the steel for $11 if I ever see it)steel .223 $6shortage or not, I haven't seen the two above on the shelves in a long time
3/16/2014 9:32:48 PM
monarch isnt bad, ive shot it in several calibers.i believe its repackaged PPU, which is in turn owned by federal.shrug i might be wrong-
3/16/2014 9:52:44 PM
PPU isn't Federal. it's made in Serbia.Federal is one of many brand names owned by Alliant Technisystems (ATK)[Edited on March 16, 2014 at 10:09 PM. Reason : and as far as i know, all Prvi Partizan ammo is headstamped PPU or PP]
3/16/2014 10:09:17 PM
I haven't bought any ammo in a couple of months.I haven't bought any that I didn't already have a shitload of since a long time before that... I just add another few hundred (or maybe 1k) to the stockpile whenever I see a good deal online.
3/16/2014 10:21:06 PM
the only centerfire ammo i've bought in a few years now is two boxes of PPU 6.5x55 that i used to bring a Cabela's order over the minimum amount for a free shipping coupon and i mainly got for the brass[Edited on March 16, 2014 at 10:28 PM. Reason : but i've bought a shit pile of powder, primers, and projectiles.]

it's been a few years since I was in the market... so what's a good pocket carry 9mm these days (and good price) ?I have a LCP (380), but I'm tired of 380 and I don't trust this thing to fire reliably (several issues; I need to send it back to Ruger for repair).
3/20/2014 10:33:26 AM
I like my PM9, you can get them for around $600 used. Kahr makes a cheaper model too, I can never remember if it is CM9 or CW9.
3/20/2014 10:59:51 AM
^^ The S&W M&P Shield is my personal favorite. The XDs weighs more. The PF-9 is superior to the shield in size and weight, but I hate the trigger. The Ruger LC9 is basically a PF-9 clone with the same pluses and minuses. I'm pretty sure the new R51 is larger than the shield. The Glock 26 is way too thick IMO. I've heard great things about the Khar PM9, but I've also heard of a few feeding problems with fully loaded magazines. There are some others from 2nd tier manufacturers, But I don't know anything about their specifics or their quality. Also, I consider every single stack 9mm I've handled to be too heavy or large for pocket carry. YMMV. Maybe I need pants with different pockets.[Edited on March 20, 2014 at 11:04 AM. Reason : Khar and not enough ^s]
3/20/2014 11:03:11 AM
Sig 938 can be had for about $620 new if you shop around.
3/20/2014 1:22:44 PM
^ I forgot about that one too. Has a good rep online.
3/20/2014 2:28:33 PM
thanks. damn expensivemy ruger was something around $300. full size XD around $500 [Edited on March 20, 2014 at 2:43 PM. Reason : .]

I wish they had a shield model without a safety, that is a nonstarter for a carry gun for me.
3/20/2014 7:53:25 PM
in most cases, a safety is just a chunk of metal. remove the chunk of metal, remove the safety.
3/20/2014 9:01:43 PM
You don't have to use the safety on a Shield.I personally don't find any 9mm pocketable due to the height of the guns. Because of that, I picked a Glock 26 over the Shield when I was looking for a new carry gun. The 26 and M&Pc are thicker than the Shield but I've found it really doesn't matter that much iwb. Unless you're really going to pocket carry you aught to go with a double stack.
3/20/2014 9:55:33 PM
^^ I would rather not have to modify a gun when there are other options that suit my needs. I like the shield but not that much.
3/20/2014 11:13:07 PM
