I haven't really tried the Maps application yet, other than to play with it on my iPad. I downloaded Waze on my iPhone per some recommendations of others, and it seems to be a pretty good app.

^^if you use that route daily why do you need navigation for it? traffic?[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 11:52 AM. Reason : ]

Isn't the new Apple maps just Garmin maps?
9/25/2012 12:10:56 PM
tomtom
9/25/2012 12:52:01 PM
^^^ traffic and many different sites in the area that often involve that stretch of 540 and I sometimes don't know the best way to get to a new site
9/25/2012 1:56:20 PM
Fortunately I use Navigon on iOS, because the new maps are fucking horrendous.Compared to Google Maps and hell, even Bing Maps on WP7, the iOS6 Maps are a joke. Btw, Nokia Drive is fucking awesome.
9/25/2012 1:59:20 PM
do people really think the Maps app will not continue to be improved upon?
9/25/2012 3:31:05 PM
ask the teams that developed Ping and MobileMe.
9/25/2012 3:35:30 PM
bahah

JESUS CHRIST THANK YOUI just realized that if you use the "Podcast" app they're forcing on everyone, you can do subscriptions and autoupdates directly to the device, bypassing a computer completelyTHANK FUCKING CHRIST
9/25/2012 4:20:01 PM
Man I just use Stitcher to stream podcasts. Downloading podcasts is for suckers.[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 4:42 PM. Reason : also I generally listen to podcasts on 1.5x speed]
9/25/2012 4:41:47 PM
Clearly, I don't utilize podcasts like you, but enjoy that sense of irrelevant sense of pride over the app you use!
9/25/2012 5:29:34 PM
so is there a trick to getting notifications for email on the home screen? i've got everything enabled that i know of, but it only shows new emails if i consciously open the app and it loads them. there's never a little number in the corner of the app or anything on my lock screen
9/25/2012 5:32:13 PM
^^ I don't have any pride in my app, I've used tunein radio also and would have no problem with any other app if it proved to be better. But I don't know why you would bother downloading them, especially before this update when you had to use your computer.[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 5:40 PM. Reason : Also, I hope you didn't take the word "suckers" as a personal insult, it was a joke]
9/25/2012 5:38:40 PM
^^Settings - Notifications - Mail - Enable view in Lock Screen. Somehow I missed the fact that iOS 6 now streams songs from iTunes match instead of forcing you to store them locally. That was the only reason I hadn't signed up until now. Well that and the fact that I don't really want to have to import 300+GBs of mp3s through iTunes. Looks like I know what I'll be doing with my free time for the next few days.
9/25/2012 6:30:23 PM
^^^ if you're using gmail set it up as an exchange server or it won't push correctly.
9/25/2012 9:32:40 PM
glass I sent you a PM about your phone. Thanks!
9/25/2012 9:44:39 PM
it is a preorder i can call tomorrow to see if they are still holding it for meRegarding the apple podcast app, when i first tried it a few months back i was surprised to see that it is a carbon copy of the Instacast App...which has been out for a few years i think. It is the same exact app..or was a few months back when i first used it. Instacast even syncs with icloud (was pleasantly surprised when all of my podcast subscriptions and playlists came up when i got my 5)andymac..you dont have to download the podcasts..it is just a way to have all of them in one app and it tells you when a new podcast comes up..you can stream it or download it to listen to when you dont have a connection. it lets you skip in any amount of time you set, forward and back..also has a sleep timer. stuff that the built-in ipod app should have..[Edited on September 26, 2012 at 12:17 AM. i don't get the Maps hate, i love it myself. i guess it's a difference in use cases. for just driving around/directions and simple search it suits my needs

phone is sitting in Louisville, KY right now. Should be here tomorrow.
9/26/2012 8:27:47 AM
9/26/2012 8:53:38 AM
my main complaint is which road names it decides to show at various zoom levels. It doesn't seem very good at showing the main road names clearly when zoomed out except for interstates and freeways
9/26/2012 9:31:35 AM
9/26/2012 9:39:10 AM
has anyone that ordered the free case from ZooGue.com received their case or had any updates on shipping? the website won't let you track your order unless you created an account when you ordered, which I did not. Curious to see when these things will arrive.
9/26/2012 5:09:04 PM
Regarding the maps - twice already it's taken me to the wrong place. Once it also gave me a less preferable route, where google used to recommend the highway.I do like how fast they go, but they need refining on several things
9/26/2012 6:07:06 PM
^^ i haven't either, but i got an otterbox so i don't really care at this point
9/26/2012 6:33:41 PM
^^^ The guy that owns the company is posting in the slickdeals thread. He posted (today?) that if you ordered it last week he expects you to get them in 3 weeks.
9/26/2012 9:09:03 PM
thanks. i guess i won't hold my breath and it'll be a surprise when it arrives.
9/27/2012 7:52:21 AM
man, my phone has stopped being tracked. It arrived in Louisville, KY yesterday at 2am and that's the last arrival scan. It still shows on-time delivery for today which is weird. I expected a check in at GSO or something.
9/27/2012 9:46:28 AM
yeah i don't have mine either... fucking waste of a pre-order.
9/27/2012 10:17:36 AM
got mine yesterday. love how fast it is.
9/27/2012 11:14:28 AM
well i guess it's not going to make it today like it says
9/27/2012 1:23:22 PM
I never understood the appeal of Angry Birds at all, but I am having a blast with Bad Piggies. It's nothing like Angry Birds at all.
9/27/2012 2:31:08 PM
Angry Birds is terrible. Cut the Rope is a much better game.
9/27/2012 3:41:50 PM
9/27/2012 4:22:06 PM
The Netflix app just got a 16x9 iPhone 5 update, FYI.
9/27/2012 7:01:10 PM
I like angry birds but I never got obsessed with it like my dad did.
9/27/2012 8:16:23 PM
just ordered mine via personal pickup. getting it tomorrow
9/27/2012 11:08:00 PM
Verizon: $177/month for two iPhones (4S and 4) with 1400 shared minutes and 2GB data. This is ridiculous, considering I'm at work from about 7:00 until 7:00 and can't even bring my phone.
9/28/2012 12:44:25 AM
1400 mins/month seems kinda high...
9/28/2012 8:32:10 AM
Umm... the share everything plan w/ unlimited minutes and 4GB of data is $150 w/VZW. you might wanna change your plan.
9/28/2012 8:38:16 AM
^, ^^^^are you in NC? I've been trying the last couple of nights right at 10PM to order for apple store pickup but nothing has been available. Happy for you, but jealous!
9/28/2012 9:26:04 AM
yep, I'm in Raleigh. I was on at 10p sharp Wednesday night and no luck. Last night I forgot about it until about 20 after and figured i'd be SOL.
9/28/2012 9:32:36 AM
Even Apple agrees that the new Maps sucks:http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/09/apple-ceo-tim-cook-apologizes-for-ios-6-maps-promises-improvements
9/28/2012 10:00:27 AM
people need to quit getting lost. i remember back in my day it was me and Rand McNally and the open road. and if you didn't know where you were then you were right where you were supposed to be.
9/28/2012 10:04:52 AM
9/28/2012 10:45:45 AM
what is the best map alternative for the time being?
9/28/2012 10:47:43 AM
I am not a fan of the new maps app but I am glad they gave google the boot. Google had no reason to innovate with its iOS maps app when it was included so this will force them to do so along with apple. Might suck for the time being but in the long run it will probably be a good thing for consumers.
