St Johns is in a nearly identical situation as we were in a year ago. Looking towards the following years freshmen...

Tyler Lewis visiting today
10/28/2010 11:08:46 AM
I'm not sure most people could pick him out of a crowd unless he was with one of the coaches or players. Of course, he probably would be but he looks like a typical high school / undergrad kid.
10/28/2010 4:21:42 PM
If Lewis commits I wonder how/if it would affect our recruitment of Purvis...Lewis might not be strong/physical enough to play big minutes right away so it might not be an issue but you never know. Also Tyler Harris canceled his visit to St. Johns so it's down to us, Providence and Iowa[Edited on October 28, 2010 at 4:31 PM. Reason : .]
10/28/2010 4:28:51 PM
pretty sure purvis is a shooting guard
10/28/2010 4:46:29 PM
pretty sure purvis isn't worried
10/28/2010 5:09:03 PM
Rivals classifies him as a PG, though Scout does list him as a SG...he's probably too short to play the 2 in the NBA so I imagine he wants to play PG in college.
10/28/2010 5:11:51 PM
^ those classifications are even more worthless than their interest lists.

10/29/2010 12:35:33 AM
Great news about Harris. Might as well cancel the trip if you know it would be a waste of time anyways. I like our chances.Purvis will play point in college. He's too good of a ball-handler and too dangerous to not touch the ball every possession.
10/29/2010 12:38:23 AM
purvis is probably going to play point but I don't think he'd care if we had lewis. especially since lewis will be a freshman the same year
10/29/2010 1:15:24 AM
Just to clarify the last page Dwon Clifton went to Westchester. In '99 he was a junior and in '00 he was a senior there.I believe his freshman year he attended Milbrook but he didn't play basketball there. He moved to Georgia sometime around then and when he moved back to NC he went to Westchester.I guarded the guy a few times in games for god's sake and I dont know him well or anything but I had his AOL screename. I dont think he ever played at Ravenscroft but it is possible I guess because I know he moved around a little before he moved back to Winston to live with his brother
10/29/2010 1:28:57 AM
Hopefully Tyler Lewis was at the game last night.
10/29/2010 9:07:19 AM
Lewis committed
10/29/2010 4:21:06 PM
So we've got Uchebo and Lewis committed, are in a great position with Harris and still have a couple of bigger 5 star types of guys that are interested. If Lowe can just win this year it will make all of this recruiting for Lowe a hell of a lot easier.
10/29/2010 4:23:55 PM
woot
10/29/2010 4:24:40 PM
Woot.http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/1016190.htmlHe'll be a solid piece of the puzzle for 4 years.
10/29/2010 4:25:16 PM
Not surprised, but with the timing I thought the good news was going to be football related. Solid pickup.
10/29/2010 4:27:58 PM
lol``
10/29/2010 4:29:04 PM
nice!
10/29/2010 4:30:43 PM
Dude makes John Stockton look black
10/29/2010 4:31:00 PM
That's what I love about him.
10/29/2010 4:33:34 PM
His nickname needs to be ghost related, because i'm pretty sure that I can see through him
10/29/2010 4:39:39 PM
I just hope he doesn't break both his wrists trying to dunk
10/29/2010 4:39:52 PM
Pale Rider
10/29/2010 4:40:34 PM
Can someone post some scout info on Tyler Lewis? I looked back 10 pages or so in this thread, but not too much info on him. Thanks in advance...
10/29/2010 4:46:42 PM
Something about him just screams "struggles to grab net"^Decent to good shooter, great court vision and passing skills for his age. That's about all you need to know. I imagine he'll back up Harrow for a couple years and barring a John Wall type talent committing in 2013 or 2014 he starts after Harrow leaves (either to graduation or if he works his way into the lottery)[Edited on October 29, 2010 at 4:48 PM. PI had a vid of him dunking a couple months agoit hasn't been confirmed yet if uchebo will be '11 or '12, has it?we're still gonna need a pg to back up Harrow next year, aren't we?[Edited on October 29, 2010 at 5:20 PM. Reason : ]
10/29/2010 5:07:36 PM
this is why Mays xferring kind of sucks. yea, he's slow and all that but as a senior he'd probably be a decent enough back up for 10 minutes a game. I'm just going to hope Zo doesn't go pro and he's the back up next season. Not sure how you're convincing any PG worth a shit to come in next yearWhich is fine, because Harrow--->Lewis is a pretty nice transition. That's a good 6 years of solid ACC level point play, which we haven't had in a long time
10/29/2010 5:26:00 PM
All the videos I've seen of Lewis have been very impressive. Nice pickup
10/29/2010 5:34:17 PM
^^^^ I can't access that at work. I saw it in a previous page, but I was looking for some pasted articles. I'll just check it out at home. Thanks for the info from 5^.
10/29/2010 5:38:12 PM
You don't have to be that big in college to get the ball to the basket and create opportunities. What the kid lacks in size, he more than makes up for it in determination. He'll be a great player here.As for a nickname, I think Daywalker would work well but some people used that for our other ginger...
10/29/2010 5:54:15 PM
is he archie miller-ish or not a fair comparison. lewis seems to have great handles while miller was a pretty good shooter
10/29/2010 5:56:37 PM
Not a fair comparison, and you answered why in your own post.
10/29/2010 5:57:47 PM
nice! i've been an internet fan of lewis for a while.all of the videos i've seen he looks totally goofy, but makes awesome stuff happen.
10/29/2010 6:10:21 PM
think steve nash
10/29/2010 6:13:34 PM
not every white basketball player is the same you know?
10/29/2010 6:16:36 PM
they all look the same to me
10/29/2010 6:39:15 PM
im thinking hes a hybrid of chris corchianni, T-Ferg, vandenberg and kendall smith personally
10/29/2010 6:43:02 PM
wow, espn has him as their 7th best pg in the class and 63rd overall. that's some pretty good respect.
10/29/2010 6:48:33 PM
He's the #9 PG in the 2012 class according to Scout, and Rivals has him as the #19 PG.Schools Interested (known offers in italics)North Carolina StateAppalachian StateBaylorCharlotteDavidsonDrakeEast CarolinaIowa StateMiami (FL)Ole MissRichmondSeton HallVCUVirginia TechWake ForestNorth CarolinaStanfordVirginiaSTRENGTHS- Big-Game Player- Competitiveness- Instincts for Position AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT- Defensive Presence- StrengthOne of the top players in his class in North Carolina. lewis is an excellent passer. i think the steve nash comparison is on point in regard to passing ability.
10/29/2010 10:00:55 PM
he's like a short white magic johnson
10/29/2010 10:41:57 PM
Somebody post this in the "Tyler Lewis" thread on PP, they're doubting his dunking abilities:http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=143680835644577
