i thought it was very telling last year when he was wide open and javy was like 3 feet away from him, looking right at him, and would NOT throw him the basketball under any circumstance
10/15/2010 5:02:49 PM
Purvis is reclassifying to 2012, so I hope we crank up our recruiting with him
10/16/2010 5:53:57 PM
i'd really really love to get purvis, that kid is going to be special.
10/16/2010 10:43:20 PM
Vandy could be good if he learned how to use his body to box out and seal better. All he needs to do is get boards and put backs. Se the occasional screen. We don't need him to handle the ball like tracy
10/16/2010 10:55:13 PM
Watching him last night he will likely foul out in 3 minutes. Some of the players were looking pissed at him for throwing some bows in a scrimmage.
10/16/2010 11:06:05 PM
He was recruited as a long term project. He looks improved and as long as that trend continues I see no reason for criticism.
10/16/2010 11:34:50 PM
^Don't get me wrong. I love the Vandy. I hope he turns into Zubek for us. Just saying what I saw last night.
10/16/2010 11:48:39 PM
V'berg shouldn't have to do much this year. He'll be useful as an upperclassman. Most of those tall africans who get drafted in the lottery look like theyve never played basketball for most of their college career too, but they get blocks and rebound pretty well. Vandenberg already does that. All we have to do is get him from full retard to normal retard on offense and he'll be fine
10/17/2010 12:22:56 AM
^ reminds me of Tropic ThunderEverybody knowsyou never go full retard. What do you mean?Check it out.Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man, lookedretarded, act retarded, not retarded.Count toothpicks, cheat at cards.Autistic, sure. Not retarded. Then you got Tom Hanks,Forrest Gump.Slow, yes, retarded, maybe, braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon, and he won a Ping-Pong competition. That ain't retarded. And he was a goddamn war hero. You know any retarded war heroes? You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that?Ask Sean Penn, 2001, I Am Sam. Remember? Went full retard?Went home empty-handed.

Dominique Pointer (Winston-Salem) committed to St. John's. Now that they have 3 small forwards committed and 5 total recruits, I think it's safe to say now that Tyler Harris won't be playing college ball for his home state. Even if St. John's wasn't much of a factor before in his recruiting, it appears that it's not an option anymore.

^Telep talked all that free on scout.
10/19/2010 2:39:57 PM
god I hope we don't get stuck with Javi 2.0
10/19/2010 2:46:09 PM
^have you actually seen him play? do you know anything about him other than the fact that he's javi's cousin and goes to the same high school?[Edited on October 19, 2010 at 2:53 PM. Reason : ]
10/19/2010 2:50:27 PM
I seent some highlight clips on rivals (I think it was rivals, may have been scout). He might end up being pretty good, but he still seems like a fallback guy.
10/19/2010 2:56:13 PM
Well, supposedly he's better than Javi was in HS, and he's more of a true PG. Supposedly. FWIW.

Great ESPN evaluation:Rodriguez is a tough and strong point guard. He competes on both ends of the floor and plays with great urgency. He has good not great speed and quickness but can get to the basket because of his toughness and he is strong for his size where he can finish with either hand. He struggled to shoot the ball at times but is respectable enough that the defense must pay attention. He is a good ball handler but at times played a little to loose which resulted in a few turnoversThe compliment sandwich review.
10/19/2010 4:48:16 PM
sounds like he sucks
10/19/2010 5:18:43 PM
well, he's probably no ryan harrow.
10/19/2010 5:32:57 PM
so let me get this straight...the kid is not fast/quickhe cant shootand he is turnover prone.SIGN ME UP!!!! Sounds like everything you look for in a guard.
10/19/2010 6:55:34 PM
...wait, we're re-recruiting Javi Gonzalez? Zing!
10/19/2010 7:52:22 PM
You're going to base your analysis on 5 sentences from ESPN? We've missed out on several potential 2011 PGs, but I'll trust Sid. And trust that Harrow will handle most of the PG duties in '11.
10/19/2010 8:02:44 PM
We should just go take all the ncsu greats - get them to reproduce with some ncsu women....and have a hell of a team in 18 years.
10/19/2010 8:03:00 PM
10/19/2010 8:27:27 PM
I realize that. But we're not exactly "legitimate" (yet), and it's unlikely we'd get 2 elite pg's in back-to-back years. I'd be ok with a serviceable guard to back Harrow and Brown for now.
10/19/2010 8:40:16 PM
10/19/2010 8:42:25 PM
If we pick up Purvis or another really good guard in the class of 2012 it's kind of a moot point, but that remains to be seen.
10/19/2010 8:43:12 PM
agreed. we just gotta start winning with the talent we have now.(and javi's actually a pretty decent shooter)V eh, javi plays too aggressive sometimes. what game did he lose for us last year when he lost his temper and grabbed the dude?[Edited on October 19, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : ]
10/19/2010 8:59:20 PM
Javi would be great is he just played more aggressive.

^i hear ya
10/19/2010 9:41:06 PM
10/19/2010 11:03:13 PM
^nice!
10/19/2010 11:09:18 PM
So if we were to hypothetically get Tyler Lewis and Rodney Purvis in 2012 (Purvis supposedly may reclassify for 2012), we'd play Lewis at PG and Purvis at SG right? By then Harrow and Brown would be juniors and potentially on their way to the NBA, with Harrow probably staying all 4 years and Brown potentially going after 3. I'd like that b/c although Lewis and Purvis are talented they wouldn't be expected to come in and start right away.
10/19/2010 11:20:23 PM
Is Rodney Purvis a pipe dream or is it really a possibility? Seems like Sid gets the jump on kids early to get them interested in the program but I don't know if this follows the Wall/Leslie/Harrow trend.
10/19/2010 11:35:03 PM
Just from my personal obvservations, it seems like Purvis is genuinely up in the air. He also got to play with our guys this summer at the NC Pro Am, which may have helped sway him at least a little more in our direction. I think once this basketball season starts, it will do a lot towards showing big name recruits like Purvis where we plan on going with the program.

Week old article from the Fayetteville Observer but I didn't see it posted.http://www.fayobserver.com/articles/2010/10/14/1039252?sac=Home
10/20/2010 3:04:02 AM
from what i know and what i can guess I'd say we have a good shot at Purvis. I don't see him leaving the state of NC, and we'll probably have to beat UNC and Duke to get him though.
10/20/2010 12:43:56 PM
Wasn't sure where to put this, but did anyone see the quick segment Sportscenter did on NC State Hoops? Had Sid giving an interview (I'm assuming that came from the ACC's media day). I couldn't hear what they were saying because I was at a restaraunt and they had the sound off, but I'm gonna try to catch it later. It's good to see the bball getting some exposure/publicity (albeit undeserved at this point). Now we just have to win some games
10/20/2010 12:53:40 PM
Sid said we had good players that could make a great team. The anchors were just talking about how we reached the "magical" 20 wins but still had a losing ACC record and fell out of the NIT. They put up a graphic showing Tracy, Javi, and Scott as the only returning starters. Even though Sid wasn't on live, it was still really nice to see State getting some attention on SC. They didn't seem as excited as when they talked to Roy and K, but hey, what do you expect?
10/20/2010 1:07:00 PM
^,^^ From the other threadhttp://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/35073/acc-hoops-coachesTracy is going to be talking @ 2:45.

^^In a nutshell he's the next John Wall
10/21/2010 1:07:54 PM
wow. Baylor picks up miller and bello. What's their edge again? I know they hired John Wall's old coach to get him interested, but what about these guys? They also got another 5* guy coming in this year.
10/21/2010 7:35:02 PM
Their edge?Oh, you must mean this...
