I don't think anyone is arguing that they weren't major contributors on the team. Obviously during the time that they were starters here, they led the team in all the statistical categories. What we are arguing is that they were the best players that we had available after Evtimov, Bennerman, Simmons, Bethel, and Brackman ALL left. So they HAD to be major contributors from 2006-2009, because there was no one else. But they underachieved and got outplayed so badly, especially for how highly touted they were coming in, that it's hard to say that they panned out well.

Grant, Costner, Fells, McCauley are to State's team back in 2006-2008 what Romo, Miles Austin, Marion Barber and Felix Jones are to the Cowboys this year but seriously, this is going to have to be one of those "agree to disagree" kind of argument. I think they were all solid contributors for us and thus, "panned out" as recruits/players. I can see the other side of the argument that they didnt lead us to any postseason glory, and only were contributors because we didnt have anyone else on the team that could step up in their place. I dont necessarily agree with that argument, but I can see that there is a point somewhere in that opinion. If we had a decent point guard to go along with Grant, Costner, Fells and McCauley, then there mightve been a different outcome to their careers. I'm done arguing about it[Edited on October 7, 2010 at 10:56 AM. Reason : asdf]

man, i thought this thread was about state basketball recruiting....
10/7/2010 12:15:51 PM
I have never found myself displeased with Fells effort. He was injured most of his final two years at State, and still gave it all he had.
10/7/2010 1:11:53 PM
Dude, if we had Engin Atsur, AND Evtimov coming back for another season with this class Id say go ahead and place us down for the Final 8 in this seasons NCAA tournament!
10/7/2010 1:20:13 PM
what class are you talking about when you say "this class" and "this seasons NCAA tournament"?
10/7/2010 1:21:11 PM
The class I was referring to was this current incoming class of Harrow, Leslie, etc, and this upcoming NCAA tournament as in 2010 basketball season. I was referring to the this upcoming NCAA tourney.

Dude, if we had Rodney Monroe, AND Gugliotta coming back for another season with this class Id say go ahead and place us down for the Final 8 in this seasons NCAA tournament!

if atsur redshirted his freshman year, his senior year we probably would have gone to the NCAA tourney

^I do not live in the triangle anymore, but still I do not see enough hype for this. There should be more publicity! If I wasn't going to be out of the country I would be there. There definately better be video highlights.
10/8/2010 6:47:59 AM
wph had some pretty good video coverage last year.I went into the red rally assuming that johnny thomas would win pretty easily. I'm sure no one had their money on vandy. Good lord, he dropped everyone's' jaws on the first dunk. By the end, you could see why Sid and co. had faith in this kid. He doesn't look it, but he is crazy athletic for a man his size. It'll be interesting to see how he does now that he's bulked up and will have more playing time.
10/8/2010 7:09:48 AM
^ it's going to be strange seeing both Vandy and Tracy on the floor at the same time.
10/8/2010 8:20:19 AM
10/8/2010 8:42:36 AM
I really wouldn't be shocked if this year we had the highest attendance ever for the Red Rally. Everyone has that deadly mixture of optimism and expectations, haha.
10/8/2010 9:13:33 AM
so Deandre McDaniel is going to the Red Rally?
10/8/2010 9:31:04 AM
Not sure you can practice "touch" in the offseason, but Vandy needs a little. Every time he grabbed a rebound he would fire a 90mph chest pass to Javy only standing 2 ft away.

not sure we can expect any crucial commits until this team performs above expectations for once - and Sid's job isn't "on the hot seat" in every freakin' article you read about us...

Here's my snapshot of the future. We're definitely going to have some scholarships available, with only seven scholarship players likely returning. There's a decent (maybe 30%) chance Leslie stays 2 years. They haven't talked about the lockout in a while but it could still happen. Then who knows, maybe he'd feel that if he returned he'd have a shot at a NCAA title and immortalization
10/15/2010 3:15:41 PM
I wouldn't count out Vandy as a starter over Painter. He has a year of conditioning and non-international style basketball under his belt and he may be the defensive specialist inside we need.
10/15/2010 4:08:06 PM
Supposedly Painter's game has improved. We'll see soon enough.
