So Benjamin Mendy from City potentially has it, and is self-quarantining.

Why hasn't the season been suspended yet???

So Liverpool fans how is your mood? In b4 aimorris says that Liverpool have won the title and we will count it as 19 if the league gets cancelled, I don't care.

You are so desperate for someone else to feel as sad as you. I honestly hope you get help, but in the meantime I think youd be healthier, mentally, if you quit this site and maybe took some time off from sports. I know I've personally struggled with letting sports effect my moods in a major way, especially growing up as an nc state fan. I think I've gotten by with having people close to me that feel like me and can commiserate with how admittedly weird it is, but the joyful moments make it worth it. The community of NC state fans is really what keeps me coming back to this site, even though I don't know 95% of them personally. I know what I don't do is seek out fans of, say, unc, to start arguments and try to pull them down with me. Simple trash talk is fun, but trying to use a global pandemic to score points in a sports rivalry is just weird man.

Anyway I personally am going to pull back from responding to your posts, at least until you're healthy enough to admit that wishing death on a sports team owner is crossing a line. Good luck.

And maybe you're fine, maybe I'm just projecting, but the interactions are toxic for me. Sorry.

I would agree as we are more than 3/4 of way through season. I am all for freezing the table now and taking the top 4 as is for next season

I keep loving this stuff. Living rent free and all.... Yes the interactions are toxic because Liverpool fans on this board have disrespected us for a while now and I am the only consistent United fan here. Maybe you shouldn't take it so seriously then and take a break instead of constantly memeing? Lol.

I mean yea thats best for Liverpool but not really for everyone else. What if you are in a relegation battle. CL battle. Europa battle. Prize money matters too. Best case scenario the league resumes in May, Euros pushed back to 2021. Delayed start to the 21 season. If this continues beyond June then we have bigger problems to deal with than Liverpool winning the league. I would be livid if I was a Liverpool fan undoubtedly and memeing aside there isn't a fair solution to this mess if leagues don't resume in time.

Lets be honest, no one is going to stop watching the PL if the season is voided.

Rooney making some sense in his column in the Sunday Times

Quote :
""The next World Cup is in November and December 2022, so you could actually use this situation as an opportunity and say we're going to finish the 2019-20 season later this year, then prepare for 2022 by having the next two seasons starting in winter.""

Schedule was already going to be fucked with the stupidity of FIFA having the WC in Qatar

I’m using this thread but it could apply to many.

There is no real good way for leagues to handle this. The NHL is talking about playing through Aug/Sept. I suppose you can do that and then have an abbreviated season with a January start with 48-50 games likes it’s a lockout season. It’s not unheard of at all in North America. The NHL and NBA have both done it within the last 25 years.

European soccer specific is that viable? Can you do a 25 fixture season beginning in January? How does European competition look like? Straight up knockout stage bracket? There are just so many different variable in European soccer than in US domestic sports given relegation and continental competitions. And this doesn’t even consider a potential fall/winter relapse which is totally possible.

I still think there is enough time to re-calibrate the entire European schedule to accommodate a Nov/Dec World Cup. Start in January and play a full season over 10 months. Winter break instead of a summer break. Why do you need to shorten it to 25 games?

10 more games in the league would be 3 months, yeah? They could play it extra safe and wait until September and still fit that in. Obviously this is with an English bias right now so I'm not 100% sure on how the other countries could/would do it.

Its going to be a mess to figure out. At some point the appetite is going to grow to cancel the season if this thing continues beyond September. I say no one really knows at the moment and its going to be at least till the end of May if not more for this to clear up (I work with epidemiologists and they are saying 2 to 3 months from now with the peak still being around 2 to 3 weeks away). Which lines up with China who took around 3 months to get to where they are now and they were much more aggressive given their political system.

I would assume a shortened season and cancellation of cup competitions wouldn't be out of the question but that is exactly why its a mess and the longer it goes on the more likely it is the season gets cancelled but then that is a whole other mess to figure out.

I don't understand the thinking. If we cancel the season now, next month, or whenever, we have to start it back up at some point? If the season cannot be finished by the end of the year, why would that make it easier to start a new one?

If 2-3 (even 3-4) months from now is when this gets cleared up, that leaves plenty of time to finish and start a new season with slight or major shifts to the schedule to align with the future WC. That's why this is actually a great opportunity to just take our time to finish 19/20 season. The schedule is going to have to change in a few years regardless.

Kinda obnoxious to see everyone on Twitter complaining about an empty stadium. Just fucking enjoy sports back, jesus

I think some piped in crowd noise would be better but I also read how fans in Germany were super against it because they didn't want to "normalize" sport without fans

Glad to see that BvB kicked the shit out of Schalke. They've put together a really great team this year, even with Reus being injured again.

It is not too cool in the moment, yes, but he's about to give Liverpool their first PL title so prob ain't too mad about it. This might be me making excuses maybe but I am not that upset about Timo. Klopp seems like he really rates Jones & Elliott and buying Werner who isn't that old will stifle their ability to get more minutes. I also think COVID will keep the massive 100M+ transfers to a minimum and there's less chance for Mane/Salah to leave. With Origi/Ox/Jones/Elliott/Minamino battling for minutes with the front 3, minutes will be hard to come by, especially if you added in a 60M forward to the mix. That also doesn't include Brewster who I think the club still rates pretty highly.

Chelsea will be quite the threat next season. It will be hard to move Kepa but otherwise they are lookin pretty damn solid with all their young guys + Ziyech and possibly Chilwell/Werner

^ was United in for Werner? who are you talking to?

Timo was linked to Chelesea in the January window though a deal never happened. Then Liverpool moved to pole position, I guess COVID probably played a role since the Fenway group owns Liverpool and no MLB probably has caused budget concerns.

Until he is signed though anything can happen, but Chelsea have cash with really not spending any money the last 2 windows (Obviously due to the ban in the Summer)

Plus they will offload some aging players and players that Frank obviously doesn't like.

Who should definitely leave
Willian
Pedro
Barkley
Bakayoko
Drinkwater (They aren't getting anything for him but he needs to go)
Batshuayai
Zappacosta

Who they will need to sell to fund some of these transfers
Kante and/or Jorginho

Will also be interesting to see what CAS does with City this week. Expect an exodus if they are banned for 2 seasons.

Agree on Kanté since he seems out of place a bit but I think Jorginho has been excellent for Chelsea and it would be dumb to sell. Get rid of Barkley instead.

Injuries have hurt Kante this season.

I believe it comes down to Jorginho has been really stout this season but he is reckless in some of his challenges.

This is who I would sell
Barkley
Batshuyai
Zappacosta
Alonso
Palmeri
Bakayoko
Drinkwater
Pedro
Willian
