^ after seeing you post about DC training for the 35th time i became intrigued enough to read about it.I think i might try it. I had good results several years ago with HIIT training and this seems similar. Lord knows i don't get results with volume training. I used to train constantly and while i was fairly ripped for my size i was like 155 lbs and never progressed a lot in weight.

photo updatesme at the end of Jan - this was the picture that made me realize I had to figure out wtf was going on with my body, and fastme from this weekend - idk if anyone else notices, but I feel like you can definitely tell the difference in my stomach and face (at this point I believe it has been 3 weeks since the last time I had dairy - had some slip ups with minor traces that I didn't realize but I'm talking consciously knowing dairy was in the food)oh, and I can fit into my "skinny" jeans again - haven't been able to do that since I first bought them right before all this ish started last June

Since I started running last May I have ran a total of 201 miles That's a lot of miles for someone who never though she could be a runner Also, I've burned approximated 22,048 calories ]

That's the amount of calories I've burned just by running--So I find 6lbs to be A LOT. It doesn't include what I've done doing other activities. But the running has been my favorite and has been the catalyst for me to really look into what I eat and make exercising a very regular thing. Before running I worked out irregularly and halfheartedly, now I exercise 6 days a week, I run 3 days and I strength train and do yoga other days. Before I wouldn't consider myself an athlete, now I'm starting too. But like I said, this is my path, it's probably not right for others but it's what I've enjoyed.

I personally think 6 lbs of fat is a big deal - and I'm really not trying to start anything but I'll just go out on a limb and say itNot everyone wants to be a body builder and be completely ripped. It would be really nice if everyone could talk about the gains they have made without someone else piping up and basically being like, "That's great and all, but it's not enough."

I have done the losing weight by running thing before, and yes it worked, but it was not sustainable for me because I absolutely HATE running. (even when I'm in shape)However I LOVE lifting weights, and doing that with some cardio on the elliptical or interval run/walk on the treadmill for 30 mins or so is awesome... makes me feel good... endorphins and what not... and I haven't gotten tired or bored from it.

Saying that running (in general) is detrimental to your health is just dumb. You might be able to say that for people who run marathons/ultramarathons/etc...but in general, it's just a false statement.Running, along with a good diet and workout program is a great combination to becoming healthy and fit.

on a side note, i think i pulled one of my pectoral muscles (or hurt it some other way?)... it hurts right where the muscle connects to the sternum. I had to take some good pain killers to dull it. I was just doing normal bench press too... I wasn't even lifting super heavy... it was my first set and i was just throwing up 225.

^^^ It really depends on the volume.I have heard many horror stories from chronic runners... plantar fascitis, cartelidge degeneration, knee surgeries, low back pain, hip pain.Logging <10miles a week? Why can't "fit" be relative? I didn't put anything in that sentence that specified any type of body or even any type of "distance" for running.Running is good for you. You can definitely overdo it...but a lot of "knowledgeable" people ITT appear to be scaring people away from running and it's ridiculous.You can create just as many problems from improper weightlifting as you can from running too much (btw...don't you have back problems??). I've also seen plenty of "fat" people that consistently lift weights. So this, "running is a bad way to lose weight" is what annoys me. I'll say it again (and I don't know how you can argue with this):

Matt can say whatever he wants about CrossFit. I don’t get defensive. I know his criticisms of Crossfit is targeted towards specific types of Crossfitters, and not everyone who Crossfits. I respect his opinion on some CF topics, and in fact agree with many of them. I don’t get defensive like some of these runners do. My statement wasn’t toward everyone who runs. yeah this thread is about getting a beach body. running is not an effective way to get that. Most people here don't have an unlimited amount of time to train and want to be efficient in their efforts.Also, there's only ~2 months until pool/beach season. There's not a lot of time to waste, you can only make so much of a transition in a few months.This is the age of information. I wish I had this good of info 10 years ago, most of us wouldn't look so fat if we hadn't wasted our 20's doing cardio to try to keep the pounds off.

Running is also free, easy, and cheap. No gym costs, personal training fees, signing up for classes at certain times, no need to have lifting/spotting partner, no being self-conscious in a gym full of fit people, looking like a dumb-ass in a dance class, etc, etc, etc.I'm just saying it shouldn't be discouraged.

On the same note...I see just as many "big" people consistently lifting weights than I do out running. Although it's mainly men. Lots of big girls are too self conscious for the gym.

I love running. There are days when I crave a good run. It makes me happy and it has helped me tremendously when I have food allergy issues and need to do something to help metabolize the mess in my system. Running isn't for everyone and even I get bored of it. Bottom line - find something you enjoy doing and you're more likely to stick with it. We all have our individual success stories with doing different things. I've said this before - everyone is built differently and you can't compare what you're doing to what someone else is doing. A lot of the time it doesn't work because what might work for Minka might not work for me and vice versa. It took me a long time to find something I really enjoy doing (Bodyrock) and a good balance between that and running to help me stick with physical activity. I have been an athlete my entire life and I feel I am in the best shape (physically, emotionally, and mentally) in my entire life and I'm excited to keep taking it to the next level. With that said - I just kicked my own ass working out. And since cleaning up my diet on Sunday I am down over a pound

You will get better results by cutting out breakfast than you will by running. Make it a rule not to eat or drink anything (coffee is fine, but you really shouldnt add cream) until your lunch hour everyday and you will get quick results.

I used to never eat breakfast, and got frustrated when I would plateau. With this new plan I am on I eat first thing in the morning and several small meals a day, along with high intensity workouts (only 1hr-1.5 hours a day, at home, who doesn't have time for that?). I have seen more results this past week than I have seen in months of my previous methods.The key is eating the right foods, eating throughout the day, and burning off the calories you eat during your workouts. That is, if you are trying to get ripped and not look anorexic.
