not sure why everyone is being such bitter pussies.

We knew this was a rebuilding year. We didn't know that Cam would look like a good long term option at QB. Anyone who isn't happy about this team needs their head examined.

The team actually looks way better than I thought they would. I wasn't thinking they would be anywhere near as competitive as they are.

I'm wondering at what point to hope for a high draft pick, if they get #1 again then some team will trade the farm for it

Well for one thing we didn't think Special Teams would be the part of the team we needed to rebuild.

I'm pretty happy overall with how they look but we've lost games due to parts of the team that weren't supposed to be as shitty as they are.

As a non panthers fan I have found myself turning the channel to their games on a regular basis this season. Might not have a lot of wins but definitely shows a lot of potential.

I like how Huck/Hines or w/e, hired specifically for special teams, ended up spotting the Saints 15 yards with a personal foul earlier in the game

Shit like that is frustrating with this year's team

Yeah we are almost to the point I'd rather just tank the season to get some more talent. If you aren't gonna finish 7-9 at best then I'd rather just 1-15 it than go like 4-12

Bitterness comes because the team is being competitive. If they were constantly being blown out nobody would care.

With newton proving he can be a great QB so if we do manage to get that pick we could trade it for a ton of stuff and really fill in some holes. The colts look terrible though if that isn't proof of how much a great QB can make a difference Im not sure what is

last year we couldnt even watch the games. this year they are exciting and we get to watch a young QB develop. Not sure what you guys want. We're not going to win 12 games with a rookie QB. We have one of the worst defenses in the league. We have the worst special teams in the league. We have possibly the hardest schedule in the league for god's sake.

We need the draft picks so who cares if we lose. If anyone's pissed it's me with over 4.5 wins, not you.

I really doubt we get Luck. The offense is way too good to win 1-3 games and there are several worse teams that are going to tank.

We won't be getting the #1 pick, and I want us to play as well as we can the rest of the season.

I don't think you can really improve if you're intentionally playing poorly.

Has Nanee had any good catches? He is the most anti-clutch player on the offense it seems

Luck might command the Ricky Williams treatment where someone will have to give up an entire draft for him.

What's even more funny about the Ricky Williams trade is it was the 5th pick. Ditka traded his whole draft for the 5th pick!

Well to be fair the Ricky Williams trade was still a good one because Williams turned out to be a great running back and every player drafted in those slots was a huge bust. (Desmond Clark was okay)

1-12-1999 Chicago Bears QB Cade McNown
3-71-1999 Chicago Bears WR D'Wayne Bates
4-107-1999 Washington Redskins LB Nate Stimson
5-144-1999 Chicago Bears LB Khari Samuel
6-179-1999 Denver Broncos TE Desmond Clark
7-218-1999 Denver Broncos WR Billy Miller
1-2-2000 Washington Redskins LB La'Var Arrington
3-64-2000 Washington Redskins DB Lloyd Harrison

New Orleans wouldn't have picked those players, so your point is moot.

They threw away an entire draft for Williams. Terrible.

Arrington was not a bust? He was the #2 overall draft pick and he had arguably two good seasons. He was constantly out of position which made his moderate stats look better than he was. LB's are barely important enough to justify taking them in the first round, so if you draft one #2 he better be fucking good.

Arrington was most definitely a bust. The only thing of consequence he did was end Aikman's career.

It's clear that the Panthers need a draft to focus on the defense as well as building depth. The special teams being so bad is a result of a lack of good depth across the board for this team. Cam Newton looks damn good though, and the offense looks very strong. Get some bulls up front on the d-line and some secondary help and the Panthers will be very strong next year

Another great game at BoA stadium for a team doing enough to win, but still finding a way to shoot themselves in the foot. This time it's a pick six on the opening play and a blown time-out call at the end of the half. It was good to see Williams finding his blockers again and not dancing at the line, even if he did pick up most of his yards on an option play. For some reason we completely went away from the Stewart screen pass that has worked so well for us in the past few weeks as well. And NO completely exploited the softness in our D with Jimmy Graham. This team will win a handful more games, we just need to find a way to stop giving the other team a head start.

ah, sorry you're right. it wasn't a pick six. I was actually walking down to my seats when the INT occurred, and the score was so quick to come behind it.

A DT or CB could really help, but I'm betting the staff looks at WR in the first round. We have nothing behind Smitty, and he's not getting any younger

Our CBs are servicable. Gamble is good and Munnerlyn is decent. We might need depth but not in the 1st.

Biggest needs are DT and WR. Although I think WR wouldn't seem like such a big issue if Gettis wasn't injured, we still could use another star.

True, though the same could be said about Ron Edwards at DT. I think if they have a shot at a guy like Justin Blackmon or Alshon Jeffrey, they've got to take them. Depending on Thomas Davis' situation and what's available, we might even go OLB.

It's gonna be a long season, but at least there's a silver lining in all these loses -- opposed to State loses, which just suck all around.

Now that there's a rookie wage scale, I'd think the Panthers may be better off trading down. There are numerous holes on the defense/ Though what Hurney will end up doing is trading up from like #5 to #2 and then trading a future 1st for a 3rd round pick

[Edited on October 10, 2011 at 10:47 AM. Reason : rookie wage scale b/c top picks are now more valuable with it in place]

Too many games left to be speculation about draft position. There are some many teams jumbled up at 1-4 and 2-3 that we really won't see any seperation in the standings until Mid November at the earliest.

Some perspective:

Quote :
"After 5 games, Manning, 1998: 1,129 yards, 4 touchdowns and 12 interceptions

After 5 games, Newton, 2011: 1,610 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions (plus 6 rushing scores)

Peyton Manning's rookie record: Needs 2,129 passing yards (194 yards per game)

Steve Beuerlein's Carolina record: Needs 2,826 passing yards (257 yards per game)"

As has been said, coaching staff has to do a better job. Our D is hurt with out LB's but they are giving the team a shot and a chance. Offense is doing all they can (besides some terrible play calling at bad times (that 3 & 2 in 4th with 6 mins to go).

I cannot see us not picking up a WR in draft. Smitty needs some help and needs some bad, just someone who can run a decent route and hold on to the damn ball.

I don't see why we don't use Smitty in the slot..allow his speed and versatility to roam the field and make the def react to him.

Not saying we shouldn't give the defense new looks and all, but Smitty has been murdering man coverage on the outside all year. Why fix something that isn't broken?

You don't want to ask your best (only) receiver to give up his body over the middle. 8 years ago, smith in the slot would work, now it's not worth the risk

Cam only needs 3,474 passing yards in the next 11 games to break Dan Marino's single season passing record.

The game has changed, can't really compare old passing/receiving records.

I mean Wes Welker is on pace to obliterate Jerry Rice's single season record for god's sake. That should tell you something.

Rice got his record in 12 games. I'm surprised it hasn't been broken sooner.
