HmmmmmmI plugged in my iPad to my win7 pc to sync it and shit and it specifically told me that it wasn't charging. When I plugged it in, it was at 86%. I left it plugged in because I was playing SC2 and when I unplugged it the battery charge said 100%. I plugged it back in just to see and it still said not charging, so I'm not sure what's going on there.]

Per Apple (and in a stunning display of poor interface design) in powered USB ports where the port does not provide enough power to charge the iPad while in use, the iPad displays the "non charging message". This is due to the power consumption of the iPad while in use. However, when the iPad is asleep, it will still charge even on these lower power USB ports, it will just charge much slower.

I just watched the iPad episode of Modern Family on the iPad. First time the ABC player hasn't crashed within 15 seconds of loading. No update for it so I wonder what the deal is with that.^ok that makes sense then. Kinda fail that you can't use it in picture frame mode while charging on a PC USB. ]

Sounds like they sold ~700k. Crazy.

Does no one want to wait until the 3g comes out?
4/4/2010 12:04:23 PM
Has anyone had any dead pixel issues?
4/4/2010 12:07:51 PM
^^i'm sure plenty of people are. and i'm sure a lot of the people that bought today will just sell them to buy a 3g. apple products usually hold their value really well
4/4/2010 12:37:02 PM
^^i haven't and i haven't read anything about that online. Mainly just the USB port issue on windows boxes. ^^^ I'm sure some people are I might still get a 3g anyway. The windows charging issue has got to just be a software bug. I rebooted into windows 7 via bootcamp and got the no charging message but it charges fine in OS X. [Edited on April 4, 2010 at 12:53 PM. Reason : .]

After using this there is no way I'll be needing 3G. This thing probably will never leave my house. Plus I already pay AT&T for 3G service on my iPhone. I've only download 750 mb on the 3G network since last July

Ok so im having an odd problem. It keeps telling me the password for my wifi is wrong after it has been in sleep mode for a while. I put it in and it says can't connect. Then it shows a list of wifi networks and i chose mine and it connects fine. Anyone else experience this?
4/4/2010 3:09:19 PM
Well that didn't take long.http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/04/ipad-spirit-jailbreak-demonstrated-by-musclenerd-now-it-reall/Looks like I might be picking one up sooner than I thought.
4/4/2010 3:14:41 PM
Speaking of password errors, etc...Has anyone else tried Google Sync with their iPad? I can't seem to get it to work, getting an incorrect password error. What little information I can find about this on the Innernetz is contradictory, but I'm getting the impression that the iPad isn't being supported by Google yet for this.
4/4/2010 4:57:06 PM
I got it to work, but it is limiting you to just one calendar for syncing purposes (as opposed to 25 on the iPhone). I can't imagine this not being something that is fixed quickly.
4/4/2010 6:50:45 PM
What process did you use to configure it? I've followed the iPhone instructions, but still getting the invalid password error. Maddening.
4/4/2010 7:01:32 PM
my mother in law is now interested.... let me ask those of yall who have one. Does it display chinese? can you get the international keyboards a la iphone?
4/4/2010 8:21:54 PM
I haven't really kept up with this thread so I'm sure this has already been covered, but does it bother anybody else that the home screen only displays 4 icons across, when they have plenty of room to put 5
4/4/2010 8:28:46 PM
4/4/2010 8:37:57 PM
You can have 6....just drag two more apps to the main bar
4/4/2010 9:00:28 PM
Confirmed 6 on the dock is the max
4/4/2010 9:01:55 PM
6 in the dock is correct. As for the per row i think the min. per row would be based on it's orientation where the width is the smallest (vertical orientation) so that the layout remains consistent no matter how you hold it. Nothing would be worse then the positions of your icons changing between landscape and vertical mode because there is now more room per row. That said you can probably fit another two icons per row and be fine
4/4/2010 9:02:55 PM
This is getting very annoying.I will pick the thing up from sleep mode, load a web page, then about a minute in to surfing, it tells me the password for the wireless network is incorrect. I cancel out and wait for it to show the pick list of networks and I select mine and it pops right back on.Guess I'll check out Apple support to see if its a known issue.

^what kind of router do you have? Ive used it on both a time capsule and linksys router with no issues. Although the linksys router didn't have any security. Also what security do you have enabled?
4/4/2010 10:08:58 PM
It's WEP. I found on the support forums that some are suggesting putting a $ in front of the password. The router is the Uverse gateway.I am going try the $ suggestion the next time it happens

Lokken, I had this happen with my iphone awhile ago. Have you tried "forgetting this network connection" or whatever its called and readding it? That worked for me a few months ago when mine started acting up. Might also try adding the iPad as a static IP address in your router
4/4/2010 11:42:47 PM
Every Apple product I can think of that's ever been on my home WEP network has required a $ somewhere in the key. This spans my sister's MacBook, my iPhone, and my work iPod Touch.
4/5/2010 12:23:41 AM
what kind of router do you have? I don't know why i've never had that happen before. I've had macbooks/Apple devices for quite some time and have had my fair share of linksys routers and never had any issues with it.I've also had them on D-Link and Netgear shit with no problems. Also what WEP encryption are you guys using?[Edited on April 5, 2010 at 12:34 AM. ^ Most non apple routers. Unless you tell your computer you are entering a hex key (and I don't think you can tell the iPhone / iPad this directly) it tries a ASCII key first, hence why it fails the first attempt. To get around this, you can enter the key with a "$" or "0x" at the beginning, telling your computer/iphone/ipad that you have provided it a hex key instead of a ASCII key.http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1126
4/5/2010 12:52:34 AM
Hmmm...I do recall a few years ago on an older MacBook pro that I would have issues the first time I try and join a wep network but once it worked once it was fine. I haven't seen this problem since leopard first came out though. Now i know why lol
4/5/2010 1:02:00 AM
So maybe the issue with charging on PCs isn't a bug. It actually says in the user guide that connecting to a PC, hub, keyboard hub may drain the battery and not charge it lol. It also says that connecting it to a Mac will slowly charge it but it's most effective with the power adapter.
4/5/2010 2:49:45 AM
Just use the AC adapter that came with the iPad. I don't know if it's the same as the one that comes with the iPhone but it charged this bitch from 65% to 100% in 15 minutes. It took my PC 4 hours to get from 73% to 90% (with 0 use).

According to Apple, they only sold 300,000 on opening day...http://money.cnn.com/2010/04/05/technology/apple_ipad/index.htmI don't know if this includes pre-orders, but its a lot less than the 700k mark mentioned...
4/5/2010 9:37:47 AM
According to Engadget, that does include pre-orders and units sold to retailers that may or may not have actually been sold to end users.

I wonder how sales will look by weeks end. Apple stores were closed yesterday except for 3 or 4 in the nation so really its just 1 day of sales.

using google maps on this thing makes me feel like im in minority report

In fairness, the WeatherBug app for the iPad is better than the one from The Weather Channel. Much better.

Anyone else noticed that safari is treated differently on iPad then on iPhone in terms of user agent? For example clicking that YouTube video above plays it on the page and not in a separate app. Also some sites that have a mobile site don't auto redirect you when using the iPad.
4/5/2010 1:54:54 PM
because the user agent on the iPad is regular old Safari, not the mobile agent on the iPhone.Makes sense on a device with a desktop screen
4/5/2010 2:01:41 PM
I just assumed since it was running iphone os it would be the same or similar user agent.
4/5/2010 2:04:36 PM
Safari on the iPad still must be reporting that it is a mobile browser though because there are many sites I have been to that are giving me shitty mobile versions.
