Pentagon is going to ask for an additional 200B for this war.

Where are the DOGE advocates now?

I was only along for the Elon and Vance show. But fuck if this isn't worse than Obama who also printed money for Wall Street and continued the mid East BS. Have a hard time seeing how Kamala could have been worse. He squandered the best campaign and alignment we've seen since 9/11.

Look at the numbers for approval in the young group. They'll never vote GOP again if they vote at all (both from apathy and being in a grave in Tehran). The ICE stuff was a shit show too especially when if they wanted to actually deport people they could have went after employers. He couldn't grab a $2 hooker by the pussy.

Either our president Netanyahu promised to keep Trump and his family out of jail or he was in the Epstein files for real. Hard to see how his turn on this shit could be this dramatic.

His first term had people surrounding him who kept him somewhat at bay. The so-called “deep state” I guess.

He made sure to surround himself with yes people this second term, and we see what a truly unfettered Trump administration looks like.

If only someone could have very easily predicted that outcome, or if only they published a playbook to tell us exactly what they were going to do, perhaps this could have been avoided.

Personally I find the "Both sides are the same"/"Dems are worse"/"Lets just see how DOGE plays out" people more annoying than the super MAGA cultists.

In one of the other NCSU groups I used to post in, there were several posters who were Middle Eastern, but insisted Kamala would be so much worse for the region, immigrants, everything. I would literally point to Trump's speeches and point out all the shit he said he was going to do (deport protestors, go after higher ed, etc) and I was told that I was fear mongering.

There are still several "Kamala is FOR WAR" posters up on my drive downtown that I always laugh at as I go past.

We knew Trump could easily be played by Bibi. We know that Bibi had been aching for a war with Iran. We know that the IDF is absolutely brutal, exercises fuck all target discipline, and generally doesn't give two shits about US or other allied interests.

And yet people are surprised. Sure Trump didn't campaign on the idea of invading Iran, but it was the most obvious outcome.

^^ He did and a lot of it was "STOP FUCKING AROUND IN THE MIDDLE EAST" and "SPEND THAT MONEY AND INVESTMENT AT HOME." And the push back against that made it look real. Picking Vance and Tulsi doubled up the con.

^^^ He's still largely been blocked by the big changes which are required to stop the collapse of the country and dollar. In addition, the executions (pun intended) with ICE ensures we will have no meaningful reform there. I guess being subservient to China isn't all bad. They can still build shit. Maybe we can get high speed rail!

They're not going to reopen it under threat, so Trump's ultimatums are forcing his hand to either commit war crimes (which he doesn't care about), or find some excuse to back down and look weak. Good plan!

" An American-operated Patriot air defense battery likely fired the interceptor missile involved in a pre-dawn explosion that injured dozens of civilians and tore through homes in U.S.-ally Bahrain 10 days into the war on Iran, according to an analysis by academic researchers examined by Reuters.

Both Bahrain and Washington have blamed an Iranian drone attack for the March 9 blast, which the Gulf kingdom said injured 32 people including children, some seriously. Commenting on the day of the attack, U.S. Central Command said on X that an Iranian drone struck a residential neighbourhood in Bahrain.

In response to questions from Reuters, Bahrain on Saturday acknowledged for the first time that a Patriot missile was involved in the explosion over the Mahazza neighborhood on Sitra island, offshore from the capital Manama and also home to an oil refinery.

This is not how financial markets in developed countries are supposed to work. What you are describing is effectively a form of insider trading. You can say you wish you knew what the President was going to say. I wish we had a President who wasn't so bent on market manipulation.

I’m open to others analysis but it seems like the best outcome at this point is for Iran to accept some kind of monitoring agreement similiar to JCPOA and then airlift cash to Iran as reparations or settlement payments. Exactly what Obama did in 2015 and which the GOP criticized him heavily for. It’s all still a little hard for me to believe.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/24/world/middleeast/israel-southern-lebanon-defense-minister.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

Quote :
"Israel’s defense minister said on Tuesday that the country’s military plans to expand the territory under its control in southern Lebanon, suggesting it was ramping up its ground offensive against the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah.

In a statement, the minister, Israel Katz, said Israel will retain control of the territory south of the Litani River, which runs a few miles from the Israeli-Lebanese border at its closest point and is 15 to 20 miles away at its farthest. The river has long served as a geographic boundary in conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah.

It is unclear whether Israel would deploy troops across the entire area or rely on its air force to enforce its dominance over some parts of the area.

The statement also suggested Israel was laying the groundwork to remain in large parts of Lebanon as President Trump tries to engage in talks with Iran to end the regional war."

So we've lost one tanker to an accident which damaged another, several more tankers damaged on the ground, and one AWACS destroyed (which are expensive and limited and the Air Force cancelled the replacement program).

Amazing how utterly unprepared we seem to be for this.

I really worry Trump is going to send in ground troops with the same lack of preparation and that will undoubtedly get many killed with their deaths being captured via FPV drone footage.

Don't worry though, I'm sure this is just more hysterics from me

^Many people are saying that the constant trickle of leaks we are getting on troop deployments and positions are from the people in the military hoping civilian outrage gets hot enough before they get started.

With all the sadistic shit Hegseth and Trump and others have said over the past few weeks you really cant disregard their fucked up need to see pain, feel macho, and turn War into some kind of duty. Like they still think they can spin dead soldiers to their advantage. Insane.

^^Loss of tankers isn't good, but loss of an E-3 is a big deal. I bet we only have a dozen or two of them.

______

I'm not really sure what this war was about, and I'm not sure what the plan was after the initial wave of attacks. I'm certain that DoD planners would have tried to think this all through, but I have to wonder if they were sent on a fool's errand.

In any case, it almost seems like the main goal at the moment is to re-open the Strait of Hormuz...a problem which was caused to begin with by this war, and which any idiot with anything beyond a teenager's understanding of geopolitics should have not only seen coming, but viewed as a near-certain consequence of our actions.

I said in the beginning that if this works out, it would be a huge win out of a high-risk, high-reward action. I also didn't think it was likely and thought this was a crazy idea, but was hoping that I wasn't privy to some things and would be pleasantly surprised...but now it's looking more and more like exactly what it looked like to start with: an incredibly stupid idea set into motion by historically unqualified, inept, and unfit leaders.

[Edited on March 29, 2026 at 3:26 PM. Reason : militarily, there are some impressive bright spots, just like Venezuela. Strategically...WTF?]
