Yea ill see if I can get it to reach, its probably a good 25 feet of cord away. I found this tool for determining your computer's upgrade ability to windows 7, and everything checked out except the internal ethernet card, which it mentioned I might need to get an updated driver for. The internal card is over a year old, and was not the latest and greatest when I got it, so I am probably going to end up buying a new one. My current card does have an antenna, but its not quite as elaborate as the one you pictured there.

hasn't yet but it's not straightforward to add one, by default they don't show up as things you can add to a library (unless they're running windows home server or whatever)
8/26/2009 2:44:01 PM
^^It won't fubar the network drive, but it can cause weirdness in Windows Search/Indexing if the drive mapping ever changes (ip changes, hostname changes) or if the drive is offline while you are using the library referencing the drive.Local drives have indexing on the drive itself.Network drives are mapped to local drive space, and so indexing is on the local system drive. That's why it's not a good idea to map network drives to libraries. If you want to do it "right" and "safe" you should have a home server for the network drives that does it's own indexing and then use WHS + Homegroup for the sharing.

who needs google when we already have Noen
8/26/2009 9:17:35 PM
anyone had any issues running iTunes on Windows 7? I downloaded the latest iTunes, but when I plug in my 3Gs the iPhone stuff doesn't show up in iTunes, even though the Windows autoplay thing pops up for the iPhone...
8/26/2009 10:27:01 PM
no problems here (usually)try restarting? i've had that issue before when some service got turned off i believe. try restarting though if you haven't already[Edited on August 26, 2009 at 10:28 PM. Reason : a]

bc of my link or otherwise?
8/27/2009 11:59:14 AM
your link. i was in the market for a good internal wifi-n card anyways. thx
8/27/2009 12:02:47 PM
I'm in the market for Noen to admit it kinda sucks for a modern operating system to require a sympathetic OS for simple networking to act right.
8/27/2009 12:22:56 PM
^^ It did not say specifically, but do you know otherwise if it supports 64-bit OS? I have a feeling the 64-bit aspect is what is causing me problems as I downloaded the Vista drivers for my current wireless adapter and am still getting the same problems.

First of all, it's $300 on newegg, "on sale", only 1 bay, and only 640 GB. For the same $300 I can get a 2TB MyBook NAS, or for $179 I can get the same 1TB version I have, which is awesome, except for the fact that windows hates it now.Anyway,Let's say I install a new internal HDD for data. Now let's say I take it out for some reason and modify it with another computer, or maybe I don't modify it but I just disable it and re-enable it sometime in the future. How does Windows know that the index is consistent? Why is that different from telling Windows to somehow index a network drive? Is that unsupported? And it's becoming less possible to do it anyway, because explorer is crashing all the time when I'm doing something in a folder that's mapped to the NAS.[Edited on August 27, 2009 at 2:09 PM. Reason : Even with more thorough searching, I don't see where you found that HP for $200.]
8/27/2009 2:06:31 PM
lol $29 will buy you the full upgrade for OSXif Windows didn't make 5 different versions and tier them maybe they wouldn't be so vilified.
8/27/2009 10:02:52 PM
rrrrightyou might $29 for OS X but how much of a premium up front did you pay for apple's hardware?yeah. more than 29 fucking dollarsshut the fuck up.
8/27/2009 10:04:41 PM
we're way past the OSX only on Macs/Windows only on PCs point so that discussion is moot
8/27/2009 10:05:56 PM
Unless you have the next-to-last version of osx. Then they try to sell you the same thing for more money. http://www.pcworld.com/article/170898/tiger_users_can_get_a_cheap_upgrade_to_snow_leopard.htmlEdit: plus early reviews have it sounding more like a buggy service pack than a serious upgrade.[Edited on August 27, 2009 at 10:54 PM. with what coupon? It's $399 regular price on hp.com, 50% off would be a pretty good deal I guess - though you'd still get relative crap compared to the mybook.

can't get a resolution higher than 1280 x 800 now that ive upgraded to W7, HALPAsus m50saati hd 3650 1024mbit says "generic monitor" so maybe that's the problem but not sure how to fix
8/28/2009 10:33:03 PM
video driver installed correctly? install the drivers even if it shows up the correct name in device manager
8/28/2009 10:34:08 PM
yeah i used old drivers when i upgraded plus new ones just came out for windows update just now and no difference
8/28/2009 10:38:26 PM
i've never seen the "generic monitor" thing to be the issue. i'd still install the drivers again anyways.
8/28/2009 10:39:35 PM
its not actually terrible, its just when i watch HD trailers i have to resizei can't say i really even need the extra resolution so im not gonna bother[Edited on August 28, 2009 at 10:41 PM. Reason : thanks anyway]
8/28/2009 10:40:55 PM
ah i found out what the problem is, forgot it's "Mobility" Radeon 3650 which makes all the difference and needs a workaround from http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.phpi actually remember doing it a year ago now[Edited on August 28, 2009 at 10:57 PM. Reason : eureka! fixed]

8/29/2009 1:05:48 PM
thought they had a free trial or something
8/29/2009 2:52:45 PM
I'm using AVG, and it's OK I guess - I'm not sure how I'd tell, it's not hogging resources. The only thing I changed was to turn off the stupid link checker or whatever. I have ESET at work, and it's awesome, I just don't wanna pay the $ right this minute.
8/29/2009 4:45:25 PM
avg slowed my shit down waaay too much. fuck that. i'm back to using nothing.
8/29/2009 4:52:49 PM
This is what it shows for me. Doesn't seem too bad, but it's not really doing anything.
8/29/2009 5:56:33 PM
it never showed it using much in terms of resources but for some reason it took for f'ing ever to access a lot of things when i had it turned on. this was back in the win 7 beta days though if i remember correctly. it may be better now.
8/29/2009 6:17:56 PM
Finally made the move. The install hung for about 5 minutes 'unpacking files... 0%' which made me think I'd run into all kinds of problems, but the install finished in about 20-25 minutes.Trying to catch up with installing all my software.
8/29/2009 11:07:28 PM
ESET is like 10 bucks all the time on newegg

Right now I'm having trouble installing Checkpoint Secureclient. I install, reboot, and then the service gives an error saying that one of the dependencies is missing or marked for deletion. Basically this:http://www.sevenforums.com/software/18789-checkpoint-securemote-windows-7-64-bit-workaround.htmlMay have to slink back to windows xp.

Does ultramon work in win7? Any other alternatives?
8/30/2009 6:36:14 PM
ultramon beta works finethere's an alternative i posted a few (possibly many) pages back but it kept taking up crazy resources for some reason so i stopped using it
8/30/2009 6:37:03 PM
Anyone have trouble with logmein on win7? I installed it just fine and i can see the computer on logmein.com but it keeps saying unknown log in/bad user name.-nvm figured it out. unlike vista/xp you have to preface the user name with the computer namei.e. computername\username[Edited on August 31, 2009 at 12:15 AM. Has anyone noticed a slight lag when opening up windows? Like it's an aero issue. When you open a window it goes through some visible skips while opening. It's very very subtle but Vista was very fluid. I don't know what's the deal. This issue:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKNj_90E_PINot as bad as he has it, but still slightly noticeable. -Also no matter what i do i can't get the monitors to switch from 59 hertz to 60 hertz. It's like they're stuck on 59.
