After being disappointed by a couple new pairs I decided to drop some money on some Olympia windtex gloves...by far the warmest and most comfortable gloves I've worn. Been riding around in all this cold weather (night included) and my hands have yet to get uncomfortably cold. The left thumb has a squeegee built in to clean your visor when it's raining, which is neat and all but I'd kinda rather stick to the good ol' hand wipe and keep cold rubber off the back of my thumb. That's really my only complaint though, these gloves are great

My friend and I may be going down to Charlotte to pick up a Triumph he may be buying. We both can't ride for shit, so he wants to drive it back in his pickup. How does one transport a motorcycle (upright) in a small pickup?
12/17/2009 9:08:26 PM
With lots of straps and lots of confidenceI've owned two old piece of shit bikesI've had to do this a lot
12/17/2009 9:22:29 PM
buddy of mine is selling a triumph tt600 with pilot powers and fender eliminators for ~3k if you don't want to go all the way to clt

Strap down the handlebars on each side, compressing the forks a bit. Then strap down a frame member on each side of the bike in the back. Make sure the straps have the bike secure agaisnt forward/back motion and side-to-side motion. Do not put down the center stand. Be careful not to scrape the bottom of the bike on the edge of the tailgate.

I don't know how heavy a Triumph is compared to a Gixxer but I transport mine in the back of my Tacoma with just two straps on the handlebars.Oh, and [Edited on December 19, 2009 at 6:36 PM. Reason : .]

Who's riding tonight? Not me.
12/19/2009 6:43:58 PM
Still riding ~5 days a week here in Northern California.I've put about 3k miles on my sv650 in 3 months
12/19/2009 6:45:39 PM
No riding for me out here in Greensboro/Burlington until there is no hint or threat of black ice. My boss already took a spill just last week after riding across a bridge where grooves in the road collected water and then froze.

I rode tonight.Even with my cold weather suit, it was a little too cold for my tastes.
12/21/2009 10:21:19 PM
I started my bike yesterday, I fogot i left it with a full tank of gas.... Looks like im going to have to go toruing one weekend.

went and got my learner's permit today!
1/7/2010 12:18:19 PM
congrats.
1/7/2010 7:31:14 PM
Congrats! Did they WTF at you for getting your permit in this weather?
1/7/2010 8:22:35 PM
No but the dude at the dmv was pretty much a dick the whole time. Said he didn't have a motorcycle handbook at the beginning. The lady who I had to go sit down with went right to the back and grabbed one for me. Told me to take as long as I needed to look it over before I took the test. Then first guy comes over and tells me I have to take the test right then. Oh well, I passed so it's ok
1/7/2010 8:40:24 PM
He's just mad because he doesn't know how to properly tune a set of carburetors.
1/7/2010 8:43:03 PM
Crap I still need to go take the riding test. I bet they appreciate it when riders come on the coldest day in January.
1/7/2010 8:58:38 PM
I just barely passed the computerized test. It had a lot of vague-ass questions.
1/8/2010 8:27:21 AM
i did the msf brc. then just walked into the dmv and said "gimme my license".
1/8/2010 9:10:13 AM
I did, too, but I still had to pass the written test.
1/8/2010 9:13:57 AM
Until I have a chica who wants to ride with me I am perfectly content with just my permit.

You're supposed to cross them as close to perpendicular from the ground(upright) as possible. Read the manual, faggots.
1/8/2010 2:36:28 PM
Isn't that common sense?! I doubt I'll be going around a curve trying to scrape a knee or anything over a railroad road track LOL, and I can't remember exactly what the possible answers were, but from what i can remember, they were ridiculously dumb. And if you are going to be asshole about it, well I guess thats your sad little life. I'd hate to be as angry as you are about everything it seems. Besides I aint worried about it anymore: I passed that thing without missing one so piss off!
1/8/2010 2:58:25 PM
I use faggot as a term of endearment.
1/8/2010 3:02:04 PM
Ohhhhh... lol thats right, you guys show your affection by calling eachother the most deplorable names... I just don't play enough of Call of Duty
1/8/2010 3:12:56 PM
hey sqqqquirt
1/8/2010 3:23:18 PM
You're also supposed to raise your butt off the seat a little.Common sense? We're talking about riding motorcycles here.
1/8/2010 4:40:49 PM
^ That's true. I've had someone ask me where the "gas button" was once. Theoretically, people who want to ride know this shit, but the test can at least weed out the aforementioned retards.
1/8/2010 10:53:16 PM
It's hard for Squirt to even realize she's crossed railroad tracks since she rides at 6,527,491mph.
1/8/2010 10:54:30 PM
Get a 3mm thick skiing wetsuit to wear under your riding gear. You should be sweating by the time you get to where you're going. If not, get a 6mm suit, which is okay in 45 degree water while you're freezing your fucking head off.
1/8/2010 10:58:20 PM
^^^ I was actually implying that people with common sense don't ride motorcycles.
1/8/2010 11:47:44 PM
Just ordered some ballin' gloves (200g 3m thinsulate should be pretty warm, right?) and some thermal long johns. I'm fucking excited about being less cold.
1/9/2010 1:17:11 AM
I never thought I would be happier to see temp forecasts of 45 degrees so I could ride semi-comfortably.

Anyone use a Baclava? Does it make a big difference?
1/10/2010 1:14:31 PM
Yes, its delicious. i think you meant balaclava.
1/10/2010 1:24:20 PM
haha, that I did.

I use:http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=FTL_ANT023-BZ-XXXand it's just about the best thing ever. It keeps the wind off of my chest and seals up gaps left from the neck of my coat. I don't use it to cover my nose or else my visor fogs up. I also have an Under Armor hood for when it's really cold and I need my head warm. Anything thicker and my head would feel squished in and likely hurt by the time I got home.
1/10/2010 4:56:00 PM
^I use the balaclava version of that. It's pretty awesome, but the concern about fogging the visor is definitely truth. I also have the same brand glove inserts. They're pretty good as well.

Anyone in or around Raleigh have an SV650 they'd let me spend a few minutes with? I'm looking at getting another bike while the market's a little cheaper, and I really like the way those look.I've heard pretty good things about them, but not so sure about the ergonomics, as I'm kind of a big guy (6'0, 265). I'd like to sit on one and ride it a little, even if it's just a couple laps around a parking lot, to see how the controls and the suspension fits me. If it makes any difference, I've got a couple '07s I've been eyeballing.Better yet, anyone want to sell me theirs if I find that I like it?
1/12/2010 10:34:48 AM
My SV (which is in Winston-- sorry) fits me (5'8") like a glove, but my dad (5'10") complains that his knees jut up against the tank.
