I was supposed to start getting BAH and have my meal deduction removed halfway through March but won't start getting it until May (at least I got backpay). Luckily I had a little money in savings because I had to pay two months worth of bills without the necessary funds.

Do you, you know, ever feel... uncomfortable in the showers? Like you just aren't as fully developed as everyone else?
4/27/2010 7:02:08 AM
i have one shower that I share with 6 other chiefs and officers (we live in the overflow khaki berthing), so no meatgazing going on. even if it was a larger berthing with multiple showers, you'd still have a fair amount of privacy in each shower stall.in summation, no, not really.

HEY chembob!!!
8/12/2010 8:51:30 PM
^^i don't even know what that says
8/12/2010 9:06:28 PM
Colors is when we raise and lower the ensign (American flag) and Navy jack (Don't Tread on Me flag) while in port. It's done at 8 in the morning and at sunset. Therefore I work until sunset regularly.

Got INSURV in less than 4 weeks. [Edited on February 9, 2011 at 9:45 PM. Reason : But I'm qualified and awaiting hard copy of my orders.]
2/9/2011 9:41:54 PM
I had to google INSURV, but it sounds pretty cool.Is that a good assignment or not?
2/10/2011 7:59:20 PM
If chembob is going to INSURV, that would be the end of the Navy. The beginning of a huge downward spiral of an unstoppable deficit in poor manning choices. Thanks for blogging about the Navy in open source media!
2/10/2011 8:03:44 PM
what was the worst part about boot camp?
2/10/2011 8:06:08 PM
It's not an assignment. It's the most thorough inspection done by the Navy. A bunch of senior LDO's and Warrants tear through all the equipment onboard. Basically, we got to make the ship work as she did when she was commissioned. We also do demonstrations in propulsion, steering, and gunnery.
2/10/2011 8:06:48 PM
Actually INSURV can be an assignment.....
2/10/2011 8:08:01 PM
Right.I did say the inspectors are senior LDO's and Warrants.Cause a young JO like myself can do that. Maybe someday as a senior O-6 be part of the INSURV staff, but not an inspector.
2/10/2011 8:13:39 PM
Do you like having the deck?
2/10/2011 8:19:00 PM
Yea, knowing I'm one of the few people the Captain trusts to handle the ship when we're underway - knowing I'm responsible for the safety of 170 people - it's a feeling like no other. It teaches you a lot about how to handle every type of situation.
2/10/2011 8:24:34 PM
Proud of you homie

How often do PDS orders change prior to being issued?[Edited on February 12, 2011 at 6:56 PM. Reason : { }]
2/12/2011 6:55:56 PM
usually a couple changes (ORDMODS).I've already had a change where I would detach NOW (command can't support). XO squashed that. now i've been shifted to another ship to support my original relief's orders. so yea, a couple usually.
2/14/2011 6:59:22 PM
How often does someone on medical leave actually get their orders revoked? How long does it take before orders can be revoked?
3/14/2011 9:32:47 PM
By orders, do you mean TAD orders to local clinic/hospital? They get modified more often than revoked. It's all dependent on what the doctors are saying about the Sailor. If the Sailor has a path back to the shup (e.g., 30 days TAD to Naval Hospital Jax, then will return back to the ship for 30 days limited light duty), then it's not going to change much. But if conditions worsen, etc., then the ship will be forced to make a decision as to letting the sailor go and getting a replacement in.

fuck insurvwe had to do an accelerated deployment cycle for OIF...19 months between deployments...on my ddg - only problem is it wasn't accelerated until the last 4 months or so when it became clear the war was going to go down. life already sucked ass in 3 section duty post 9/11, having to do insurv with basically no lead time was a kick in the teeth.
