As you can see I value strength for carrying large arsenal, and toughness to be resistant to as much damage as possible, and skill to regenerate health. I play the as if all other remedies for peace have been exhausted and the last resort of having an all out war is needed for one side to prevail, so I need to be as strong and as resistant as possible of all relevant facets.

^^ That's normal though. I got in a few tight situations because I ran out of ammunition during the early parts of the game. As you progress further though, ammunition, stimpacks, and caps should become less of an issue, especially if you're a packrat like me.

^^ Seriously, seriously, you may want to consider starting over.

1. First aid AND doctor is completely worthless. Pick just doctor, and something else.

2. 7 points in Agility is a worthless number. Odd numbers of agility don't give you any benefit besies like 1 point in each agility based skill and 1 extra base armor class (which is nothing).

3. Bruiser is THE WORST possible trait to pick. Action points are by far your most important characteristic when it comes to combat, you have unbelievably gimped yourself.

4. Fast shot can be pretty good, but it's a major trade off.

If you really don't want to start over, at least use Falche to edit your traits and get rid of Bruiser. You do not need 8 strength with small guns, it's just completely unnesessary, as is both medicine skills.

Going back to FO3, didn't I read that there's no reason to bump a skill over 80, due to bonuses either by perks or by apparel later in the game?

^ Yeah, I said that, that's my opinion. I have a 100 skill of medicine for example and have a suit that gives you +5 for that skill and I have read at least 15-20 medicine journals.

^^ I am going to play what I picked out no mater how it plays, that's what an RPG is. And in essence its only a game, and nothing life determining here. Also,

Quote :

that is exactly what I thought upon initial inspection, however when you pick this trait it gives you 2 extra STR points, so I took those two points away from STR and gave them to other S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes.

Did I miss something on this game? We played this for a couple of days and got to the part where you look for your dad and got bored... Keep hearing how good it is, but I dont see it. I tried to give it a chance, but guess its not for me

COD 5 and Mirror's Edge are better

^^ Alright, it's your call, I just don't think it would be nearly as fun as it could be.

Bruiser gives you +2 STR, sure, but since you get 1 action point per 2 AGI it's also basically a -4 to AGI.

Oh, I'll have fun either way. I just feel like a true player of an RPG will play with the choices he has already made for better or for worse and not try to switch it up later. And besides, they put all of the skills and traits, and so fourth in the game, so they all must be usable in virtually any combination. IN addition to this is the first set of stuff I have did to build my character. In fact, I am still in front of the Vault killing rats right at the beginning and I am not leaving until I fully, and fluidly understand the controls, unless I kill all the rats. This game is a rather high learning curve.

^ some games you have to min/max more because of the difficulty or learning curve.

i played fallout with a character that i just picked randomly and it was impossible to get past a certain part (was about halfway through the game). that said, many of the traits are plenty usable. I think the 3rd one did a better job of letting you pick whatever you want and still be competitive.

[Edited on December 4, 2008 at 12:54 PM. Reason : its far too easy if you pick the build they are talking about.]

i've picked up the super mutant as a co-op player and am at level 20 with small guns, explosives, and health all maxed out. i'm not sure what perks i have, but the game pretty much plays itself now.

I'm sure you all know about the wiki, but i'm using it so i don't finish the game before i want to by watching the main quests. Site gives a good description of the point of no return in the last quest.

The OG Fallout is really a good game. I def recommend playing if you've played Fallout 3. I am going to play FO2 as well as soon as I finish with this game.

You should def. take some of the character design advice when you play FO2. It's quite a bit harder than the first.

You don't have to be a crazy min/maxer, with 2 charisma and 10 agility and intelligence, but it is much easier to gimp your character in the second one.

Going to steal the Systolic Motivator from Rhombus to get Power Armor when I get home this evening.

Oh and my true first WTF moment was when I was hit with the flamethrower by a Super Mutant and burned to cinders - didn't expect such pwnage and devastation.

I did some missions for Sandy (whatever), like save d Tandi and killed the Radscorpions, the Brotherhood of Steel Initate mission, killed the supermutants at the watershed, found the water chip and taken it to the Overseer, and I killed some guy is the Heights, and after I get the armor, I am going to back to do that side-quest in The Hub were the farmer's farm was taken by the Raiders. I probably did another mission or two, but I'm probably not really that far at all in the game, and when do you 'suppose' to get the Power Armor anyway.

You didn't stop in Junktown?

That may be my favorite town in Fallout 1.

Also, there's really no specific point to get the Power Armor. I usually wait until after I get the water chip for roleplaying purposes, but since you have to make a trip to the Glow to get the power armor anyway, any time after reaching the Brotherhood seems fine.

In Fallout 2 there's a way to get the advanced power armor at like level 2, which is kind of an exploit.

uh, you're probably around 2/3 of the way done. But you can take as long as you want and finish some quests you missed, the time limit now is like 500 days.

It's not that long of a game, at least compared to fallout 2.

Dang, I thought having a time limit of the water chip quest was bullshit, now you are saying that the game has a time limit on it, it just keeps getting better lol. I am only at level 7 or 8 on top of this. Looks like I'll be buying FO2 before the week is over with.

Really the time limit is almost a non-issue. And IIRC it's rare to get past level 15 in FO1. The cap is 21, but I never reached it.

In Fallout 2 there are a lot more enemies and a lot more levels, and they moved a buch of Perks back several levels because there's so much more xp to be had.

My most recent Fallout 2 game I reached level 28 by the time I finished the game.

Also Fallout 2 lets you play on after the end, Fallout 1 doesn't, so finish all your stuff.

What quest in the last quest for the main story so I'll know to be watching for it? Also in FO2, do you get a Perk with every level?

There are 2 "last quests", so you can do either of them first. The Cathedral and the Military Base. Most people do the Cathedral first, then the base. And you don't have to do one immediately after the other.

you get a perk every 3 levels

One other this is how do you repair stuff in OG (short for OG Fallout) and what can be repaired? I assumed that you need tools? I have some tools in my arsenal and my repair skill is decent as well.

Its not used all that much. Whenever you look at things and see something like "This is broken" in the description, you can probably use repair on it. Just hit your skill index (or push 8) and click it. Using a tool on it will give you a bonus to repair skill, but they aren't necessary.

just get some RadAway from the drug dealer in Old Town for your radiation sickness.

So did anyone else completely fuck up the quest order and stumble upon Vault 113 ( I think) and find your Dad without doing any other quest first.

Once I accidentally bypassed talking to Three Dog by going to Rivet City and meeting Doctor Lee (thus automatically finishing the first main-storyline quest), I decided to read the Fallout Vault wiki site and make sure I didn't skip ahead in anything else.

Yo I went to Junktown last night and raped. OG is in a 3-way tie for my favorite game of all time. Number one is Resident Evil 4 (of course), number two is GTA SA, number three is FO3/OG, and maybe Fallout2 will be added in this 3 way tie.

^If you like FO/FO2, try out Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 as well. Made by Bioware, and BlackIsle either helped with it or published it. Not sure which. Maybe both.
