Anyone know what the beer garden will consist of and if it's worth $20?"

I, too, would like to know more about this.

Man $9? That's super tempting. I'm sure parking around there is going to be terrible though.

I got a ticket to the beer garden but am still a little confused to what it entitles me. It says there will be eight different types of beer or beer vendors but not if you have to buy them or how many you are allowed.

yep, everybody's being very hush-hush about this Beer Garden thing.....

i can't imagine you'd have to buy anything, since you're already buying a 21 dollar pass to get in, but I have no idea how many you get.

by comparison at the last Raleigh Wide Open we got 10 drinks for $10, but none of the beer vendors punched our tickets.

^3 I don't know where you got your information, but I called Robert who runs the event. I don't know him or anything but the deal website suggested calling for details so I went to the Live event homepage and did.

Robert informed me there are actually 12 beers, with 6oz servings that you can get refilled as much as you like. This cup isn't a special cup but just a plastic solo, more or less. He also told me that tickets there are only $15.

Based on our conversation the only reason why there has been so little information on the Bier Garden is because the deal was only sealed today around noon or so.

Anybody know what happened to Holy Ghost Tent Revival at this? They aren't on the website anymore but were listed on the TWW ad.

They were most of the reason I wanted to go.

^^They probably got city approval, but that doesn't mean the deal was done. I haven't looked at the facebook page at all, but I'm just relaying what was told directly to me.

Hello,

I am Jeff, the event sponsor. We are excited about using Groupon to promote the event and beer garden. Thank you for your interest and participation everyone.

The ticket price gets you access/entrance to the beer garden. When you enter you will be given a card that lists all the beers being served (between 10 to 15 options). The beers are mostly local mirco brews, and a few domestics, and the beer manufacturers will be there to educate you on the beers. You will be allowed to sample 8 of the beers, each sample being different. The serving size is 6 oz, for a total of 48 oz which is the equivant of (4) 12 oz beers. Not a bad deal for 9 dollars!

Beer is not being sold by the glass.

Here are the beer options.

Lagunitas Brewing Co – IPA
Sam Adams Brewing Co. – Lager & Seasonal
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – Pale Ale & Seasonal
Big Boss Brewing Co. (Local, Raleigh, NC) – Angry Angel Kolsch, Bad Penny Brown, Blanco Diablo Hefe, Harvest Time Pumpkin
Magic Hat Brewing Co. – #9 Pale Ale
Pyramid Brewing Co. – Haywire Hefe
Miller Lite
Yuengling Lager
Anchor Liberty
Gennesee Light
J.W. Dundee Honey Brown

Thanks and I hope to see you there!

I went, the festival as a whole was meh...they needed better food vendors and it was stupid hot. The beer garden was fun, and you could get unlimited samples...plus I managed to get in for free.

Only having one local brewery when there are so many good ones in the triangle is pretty ridiculous. Also holy random beer selections for the rest of them....

The entire festival could have been done better, but from what I gathered their resources were limited.

The LED tv screen was poorly done, or, at least, during the day time. I imagine at night the image quality may have been a little better. The entire vendor selection was a little lacking and a good 50% of the booths were a there for no other reason than promoting green technology. The promotion of green technology isn't something I am against (i'm LEED certified after all) but it isn't the sort of booth I believe deserves such a commanding presence at a festival that is supposed to be fun, lighthearted and entertaining.

The FMW project successfully got the land rezoned and continues to move forward:
http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/10/20/750348/land-near-ncsu-rezoned-for-mixed.html

Also looks like they're still buying up even more land in that area. This project is going to be massive if it does keep step with what they plan to do.

Man, is Crowder still the councilman for the NCSU area? How does he manage to keep that seat when he constantly dicks over students? I guess because most students aren't registered to vote in that district?

^^^ So that's separate from the Stanhope Village thing they've been trying to get built? Either way it is good for Hillsborough to get some new housing/businesses being built on and around the area.

Awesome news, that project is going to be great. Will Charlie goodnights, and Irregardless survive this re-development, or will that eventually get swallowed up too?

5^

Crowder's District goes out past the NCSU area, and I'd guess most students aren't registered there, and the ones that are don't vote as much %-wise as older folk do.

He's also been unnopposed in elections since like 2003.

It's not the Stanhope project. It's east of campus on Ashe Ave, down near the IHOP next to the Morgan/Hillsborough split. (the N&O actually says Ashe St, which I don't think exists...)

It was originally discussed on [link]http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=416339&page=17">Page 17
Old news links:

and browsing around on Google Maps looking at all that, I see that the satellite view has been updated since the roundabouts have gone in. Pretty nice looking from above.

With this and the Stanhope thing coming in the next few years then Hillsborough should be due for a ton more foot traffic. Hopefully this is going to attract a lot of new businesses to the street as well and force some of the dumpy ones in the awful looking buildings out.

^hopefully it also gets rid of hillsborough street bums...cause that impedes a LOT of traffic in my opinion. good folks don't want to walk past 3 or 4 people(per day) that ask "can I ask you a question" type folks

I am guessing you are talking about the ones that back up to the train tracks...those things are super questionable. It would be strange to have a huge new modern development with those on the back end. I would think there is some plan to take care of those eventually, or the property will become valuable enough to where they will sell out to a developer.

The current design implementation of the Stanhope project is a joke, imo. Urban design fail.

so...

Capitol Comics Hillsborough is closing

they're merging with their Glenwood Store... they said it was gonna be easier than to deal with Val Valentine's construction and all that stuff going on next door

fella i talked to said that they were going to start to have major sales to get rid of back inventory to make the move easier... right now everything in the store is 20% off

he said that they were probably gonna be there through november and MAYBE december

24 years there and now they're packin' up... i can't believe it
