ugly day
9/6/2006 3:59:02 PM
yeah, the market's not liking the productivity and wage numbers and the inflationary implications that come with it.
9/6/2006 4:00:19 PM
any of you ever had to take the series 7? Taking it tomorrow...just thought I would try to get some insight for degree of difficulty
9/10/2006 3:47:26 PM
"The first three months at the firm are as a trainee. You make $150 a week. After you're done training, you take the Series Seven. You pass that, you become a junior broker and you're opening accounts for your team leader. You open 40 accounts, you start workin' for yourself. Sky's the limit."
9/10/2006 4:31:26 PM
Now a word about being a trainee. The other brokers, your parents, whoever: they're gonna give you shit about it. And it's true, a hundred and fifty a week is not a lot of money, but pay no mind. You need to learn the business and this is the time to do it. Once you pass the Series Seven none of it will matter. Your friends are shit. You're gonna tell them you made twenty-five thousand last month and they're not going to believe you. Fuck them! Your parents don't like the life you lead? Fuck you Mom and Dad! See how it feels when you're making their fucking Lexus payments.

9/11/2006 8:23:25 AM
how did the exam go?
9/11/2006 4:02:46 PM
dries, how'd the series 7 go? Then we'll compare the difficulty with the CFA that I will be going toe-to-toe with in December
9/11/2006 7:39:49 PM
anyone know why nsmg just took a huge drop? I know the CFO left, but any other news?
9/12/2006 8:50:05 AM
it's down a penny...and with penny stocks, even the slightest changes have huge ramifications. Which is why I avoid them. The juice ain't worth the squeeze.
9/12/2006 10:08:14 AM
fucking hell, samsung, a company that I really like, is only listed on the FTSE and the korean index.... and it's fucking expensive!~$630 / share

Hewlett-Packard's Dunn to step down SAN JOSE, Calif. - Hewlett-Packard Co. said Tuesday that Patricia Dunn will step down as chairwoman of the computer and printer maker in January amid a widening scandal involving a possibly illegal probe into media leaks. She will be succeeded by CEO Mark Hurd. Hurd will retain his existing positions as chief executive and president and Dunn will remain as a director after she relinquishes the chair on Jan. 18. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060912/ap_on_bi_ge/hewlett_packard_directors I can't believe that they are allowing Dunn to continue as a director.
9/12/2006 10:30:19 AM
i don't get it either.... you fucked up so you lose the top spot, but you can still hang out with us

So far this year I'm averaging a 10.7% return. Is that average for the market over that period of time?[Edited on September 12, 2006 at 11:21 AM. Reason : oh wait that is for the last year-long period, not just 2006]
9/12/2006 11:16:51 AM
So far this year:Dow: ~ +6.94%S&P: ~ +4.75%NASDQ: ~ -1.09%Because of GM losing half it's value, the Dow was down about 4% (or about 2% if you include dividends) last year. GM has regained most of its value this year. The average yearly market return is about 10% to 12%, depending on whose numbers you use.As long as your turnover/commissions/fees aren't out of control, you're beating the market this year.
9/12/2006 11:49:24 AM
shit, i'm near where i was in january (excluding dividends).hopefully it will pick up this fall.
9/12/2006 12:01:40 PM
Good - I think that number is with fees already calculated in since I based them off of numbers I was given after fee calculations.I'm not much for messing with my money, but I do want to know if I'm making bad general decisions in where I keep it once and while.
9/12/2006 12:34:06 PM
^^ Yeah, I'm in the same boat.^ I'd double check and make sure that your numbers include fees. If you don't pay attention, fees can really eat into your returns. Depending on how much you're investing, fees can make an otherwise great investment not so great.
9/12/2006 1:08:55 PM
Man, I thought about dollar cost averaging TRID yesterday and wish i had.up 7% today.
9/12/2006 1:15:38 PM
got an 83 on the 7. Now I just have to pass the 66 and get my insurance licenses so I can be operational.
9/12/2006 2:30:20 PM
how hard was it?
9/12/2006 2:32:06 PM
it was tough....one half was really hard and the last half wasn't too bad. But, i think a lot of it depends on what you are used to. I am with Edward Jones and their study program is rough. The 7 was nothing compared to the exams I took to prepare with Edward Jones. The questions aren't tricky, so it just depends on how well you know the material.

Trident Seen As Best Play In LCD Market"Forecasts for liquid crystal display TVs are probably too low for the second half of the year and Trident Microsystems could be the "largest beneficiary of unit upside," an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities believes."http://www.forbes.com/2006/09/12/trident-microsystems-lcd-markets-equities-0912markets07.html?partner=yahootixdo I hear 30?
9/12/2006 4:04:12 PM

9/12/2006 4:05:22 PM
hi all, sorry for posting in yalls thread again cause i know i'd hate to be bothered by someone that doesnt know as much as me, but i have a quick question
9/12/2006 6:21:43 PM
I'd have to go with monopoly.
9/12/2006 6:25:53 PM
9/12/2006 6:37:12 PM

Nice day for my stocks--GE, ALL, RMBS, TIE, and especially GOOG.

AKAM is still kicking ass. right below $46 today, and $40 last friday.
9/14/2006 10:11:13 AM
If I bought AKAM it would immediately tank.
9/14/2006 4:15:48 PM
TRID is up ~12% in 3 days. GG BobbyDigital. However, I saw this under their headlines today:
9/14/2006 4:17:09 PM
^^yeah, i came to the same conclusion. If their forward P/E was lower, I'd consider it, but when trailing P/E is way lower than forward P/E, i get a little wary.^So, with regards to the SEC investigation, releasing options prior to good news is not illegal. It isn't even backdating. It is taking advantage, but not illegal and therefore nothing they will be paying a fine for. Backdating is changing the dates, which was practiced at other companies. So once all of this is behind them, I'm expecting even more upside. ]
9/14/2006 4:17:34 PM
CPI numbers are out today, and looks like the threat of inflation is waninghttp://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aa.W0rlcUqPg&refer=homeShould be a good day for the market.
9/15/2006 9:43:10 AM
God, I want to buy AKAM so bad.up $7 (17.5%) in one week. I still see a lot of upside, with media downloading being so big and continuing to grow... and Akamai is the biggest player in facilitating this. Many analysts have upgraded Akamai as well.http://biz.yahoo.com/seekingalpha/060915/16952_id.html?.v=1
9/15/2006 10:57:16 AM
wordmaybe the moderate selloff early next week will present an opportunity
9/15/2006 11:26:41 AM
yeah, that's kind of what i'm thinking.
9/15/2006 12:07:44 PM
another 7%+ increase for TRID.]
9/18/2006 12:13:50 PM
Goog is destroyed!
9/19/2006 12:25:27 PM
Not as bad as YHOO.Glad I sold it in January.
9/19/2006 12:30:38 PM
I hate how spooked investors can get. Goog basically dropped because of this:"OMG YAHOO'S EARNINGS MIGHT NOT BE AS HIGH AS THEY EXPECTED...I'LL BET THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO GOOGLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVEN'T SAID ANYTHING!!"
9/19/2006 12:32:43 PM
Well, Yahoo and Google do make money in similar ways. If advertising revenue is slowing at Yahoo, it's a pretty good bet that it's also happening at Google.
9/19/2006 12:38:27 PM
eh, it's only down a little over 4%TRID is down almost 5%TIE is also down 5%The market is down in general, with many of the higher volume stocks seeing more volatility.Between the housing market news, the shit going down in Thailand, and yahoo's drop in ad revenue, a 4% drop is mostly noise.^ not necessarily. Google has a much more sophisticated Ad model than yahoo, and google ads extend to hundreds of thousands of other sites. It's hard to gauge now, but it's not too crazy to suspect that yahoo's losses are google's gains. ]
