i like barry zito soley because he has the most awesome fucking curveball i've ever seen
8/8/2006 2:19:49 PM
^ his curve is sick, especially when he's got it breaking 12 to 6. I have no idea how he can locate something with that much movement.
8/8/2006 2:28:06 PM
Yeah, I saw him pitch against the Red Sox a few weeks back. He actually got rocked but that curve is ridiculous to see in person. He's had some trouble locating it but when he does he is still unhittable...

8/8/2006 10:05:07 PM
tim hudson is back7 innings, 8 K, 0 runs
8/8/2006 11:31:16 PM
What was up w/ Andruw trying to fuck up Utley's leg?V well yeah that is what he was trying to do but it's fucked up to grab his knee as you slide by. He could have seriously hurt his leg if his knee buckled anymore.. If I were Andruw, I'd watch out for a fastball at the face tomorrow..[Edited on August 9, 2006 at 12:30 AM. Reason : x]

I am completely pessimistic about the Braves in the near future due to the lack of pitching prospects and what I've seen so far from some of the "prospects" like James, Shiell, Devine, Davies, etc. I think they lineup will be okay as long as Chipper and Andruw are there/healthy because McCann is a stud, Franceour can produce runs, and LaRoche/Giles are solid, but not spectacular. I don't know how long Renteria will be around. Plus Saltmacchia will make it eventually and Pena Jr could be good. When did the Braves abandon their philosophy about basically loading up on pitchers and not worrying as much on hitters? It seems like they can develop hitters now, but haven't produced a great pitcher in a while (Minor could change that, but of course he's with the Tigers). Ho Ram is about the only guy that they've developed recently that is doing anything and he is mediocre at best. Wainswright is going to be great too, but of course for another team.
8/11/2006 12:47:55 PM
fuck the braves. the season is over. below .500 and not even close to a wildcard berth.bye.
8/11/2006 1:18:22 PM
i agree with rflongwe've traded away all our great pitching prospects (miner, capellan, etc) and haven't got much in return (kolb, hudson, )the jury's still out on devine, james, boyer, and mcbridewe don't have much in the pipeline right now. saltalamacchia will probably be traded and tony pena is just rafael belliard in disguisewe have some good young shortstops, but luis hernandez is still a few years awaybrandon jones will probably be in the outfield in 2008, martin prado will be the next pete orr, and brayan pena will likely be mccann's backup next yearbut other than that, we're dryschuerholz has a lot to do in the offseason if we want to have a shot at anything next year
8/11/2006 1:25:26 PM
Saltalamacchia has to be the first to go. McCann is an absolute keeper. We can get at least two good pitching prospects with Salty. What's our starting rotation going to be next year? Any news if we are or are going to dump Ramirez?
8/11/2006 1:32:02 PM
agreed on salty, we need to dump him before everyone else realizes he sucks, last i saw he was batting around .190 in greenvillethe rotation is a toss upsmoltz, hudson, hampton, thomson, mcbride, ramirez, james, davies are all in the mixsmoltz if obviously a keeper, hudson could very well be traded, hampton is coming back from tommy john surgery so god knows what he'll be capable of and he's owed to much money to be traded, thomson is a free agent after the season but will probably be back unless he sweats himself to death before october, i'd like to see HoRam back next year, i think he's an average pitcher who just gets injured too much, if he stays healthy he's a good #3 or #4, mcbride and james should be spot starters next year, and davies should have a spot in the rotationhopefully we can resign big bob and make some moves for a few dependable relieverswe definitely need a real #2 starter too, hopefully we can ship out thomson and a youngster for someone[Edited on August 11, 2006 at 1:40 PM. why the fuck would the yankees need jonesdo you even pay attention to baseballand devine has pitched a total of 6 major league innings and was injured at the beginning of the seasonthat's hardly enough to make any kind of decision, stop trolling
8/11/2006 2:33:24 PM
^^ are you a fucking idiot dude? Smoltz, Jones, and another player for A-Rod? Are you fucking serious? First of all, WE DON'T NEED ANYTHING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE INFIELD, SECOND OF ALL, WE NEED PITCHING... IF WE TRADE A PITCHER, IT WILL BE FOR A PITCHER.The verdict is out on Devine. He's got an above average heater... he needs a few offspeed pitches and the kid is golden. A perfect closer.GTFO of here.
8/11/2006 2:36:21 PM
8/11/2006 2:38:59 PM
Well considering Andruw is only going to be around one more year, and Smoltz is getting old, I'd say it would be a hell of a trade to get something in return from them vs nothing. And yes, the Yankees can use an outfielder. Arod wants out of NY. Sheffield probably isnt going to be back next year. Arod is having a down year, which is most likely because of all the bullshit in NY.
8/11/2006 2:41:05 PM
dude's smokin', Ernie. No idea what he's talking about.
8/11/2006 2:41:13 PM
Who says andruw won't be back besides you? Anyone?
8/11/2006 2:41:58 PM
shef won't be back, but they have damon, matsui, and abreunot even steinbrenner is gonna pay $15m for a back up outfielderand andruw will be back if he dumps boras
8/11/2006 2:42:06 PM
8/11/2006 2:43:12 PM
possiblythe thing is, if a-rod can't handle the pressure in new york there's no way andruw couldthe first time he goes trotting after a ball at the wall and the runner reaches third, they'll burn him at the stake
8/11/2006 2:47:23 PM
Andruw won't be coming in making $25mil and coming off an MVP and have the expectations of leading the Yankees to a World Series like Arod though. All I am saying, if Andruw is leaving, it would be a good trade, if he plans on resigning with the Braves, then its not.[Edited on August 11, 2006 at 2:49 PM. Reason : .]
8/11/2006 2:48:32 PM
but he will have scott boras as his agent
8/11/2006 3:37:13 PM
I personally don't see Andruw re-signing with the Braves solely based on the Braves recent past with all FAs (Sheff, Glavine, Maddux, Javy, Furcal, Farnsworth, Jaret Wright, Franco, etc.). The Braves just will not match the offers of other teams and just expect the players to give up money to stay in Atlanta. Obviously that worked with Smoltz because Smoltz is a true Brave, but I don't think Andruw is going to take 20 or 30 mil less over the life of a 5-6 yr contract to keep playing on a suddenly crappy team. I hope they keep him, but I just don't know. If they suck again next year, he definitely be traded by July 31.As for dealing for A-Rod. Terrible idea because the last thing the Braves need is another huge contract eating up their $80 mil payroll (even if the Rangers would still be paying some of A-Rod's money). I'd rather see the Braves add some quality 5 mil/season arms if possible (guys like the Mets got such as Duaner Sanchez) and get back to having a solid staff. Pitching will always beat hitting.
8/11/2006 5:22:31 PM
Oh, is that why the Braves won so many World Series? Once you get to the playoffs, and the World Series, everyone has good pitching, and its the bats that make the difference. You can't win the game if you don't score.
8/11/2006 5:24:34 PM
oh, is that why a-rod has won so many world series
8/11/2006 5:31:37 PM
^^ OMG don't even bring that shit. Yeah the Braves didn't hit great, but their pitching other than Smoltz and at times Glavine has never been spectacular in the postseason. Without the pitching though, they would have never even made the damn playoffs to start with. Just compare the last 14 years with this years team and the one area that is extremely different is the team ERA.Plus if you don't believe pitching beats good hitting, then how the fuck did the White Sox win last year, and the Marlins in 2003, and D-Backs in 01. How come the best hitting teams never win the World Series? In order for the Braves to ever get better again, they need to start with their pitching. Just look what the young pitching in Detroit has done.[Edited on August 11, 2006 at 5:33 PM. Reason : ^]

so kolb is coming back to atlanta tonight with the brewersi can't wait to hear the boos if he gets in the game
8/11/2006 6:01:20 PM
have you ever played goldeneye ernie?they had a gun that was the klobhe sucks and that gun sucks and i dont think it was conicidence
8/11/2006 6:04:03 PM
^^Who did we trade to get Kolb? I can't remember....I am assuming we gave up some good prospects after the year Kolb had before we got him.
8/11/2006 7:24:24 PM
jose capellan was part of the deal, i can't remember who else
8/12/2006 9:51:28 AM
a player to be named later....i just don't know who
8/12/2006 10:23:34 AM
i would just like to say that marcus giles is terrible. His K's are terrible. Yes francoer strikes out a lot but at least he has a ton of RBI's. I know giles is at the top of the lineup but hes terrible and I think we shoudl trade him at the end of the year or sometime. Aybar at 2nd and if chipper at 3rd when he gets back.
8/12/2006 10:14:57 PM
^ Aybar is not a long term solution. Also Giles's stats over the last month have actually been pretty solid especially when he was in the 2nd spot in the order. Bobby should really try Renteria at leadoff since Giles still looks like he's pressing too hard to get on base when leading off. Atleast Chipper is back now, but of course it's too late. I also think the Braves should just let Diaz play LF for the rest of the season seeing that he's hitting .330+ and Langerhans/Thorman both are lost at the plate. Maybe Diaz can become a solid everyday player.
8/14/2006 2:23:44 PM
Diaz just drilled one into the bullpen. 2-1 Braves.
8/14/2006 7:37:08 PM
Now it's 6-3 Braves.
