^eh, no big whoop. though Vrbata has a really quick wrister
12/30/2005 10:53:44 PM
He's a good player, but he's a not a role playing type that can sit out for a long time and then bang in front of the net in a few games here and there when he's needed. He'll score some goals in Chicago and stay out of our way, and we'll get a third rounder or something similar at some point. Sounds about right to me.
12/30/2005 10:59:18 PM
I like Vrbata and I am sad to see him go to Chicago, but I hope he gets some quality playing time up there. He definately wasn't getting it here.

Aside from that little stickhandling excursion in front of the net, Cam made ONE mistake all night and it was on the third goal. In a lot of ways, he had a Hasek-like night, making saves he shouldn't have made. It's games like last night that show just how much more pure talent has than Gerber, but at the moment he doesn't have the consistency or puck management at the NHL level that Gerber has. As it stands now, he plays with more desperation than Gerber and is better in scrambles as well. I was excited about our goaltending situation once we signed Gerber before the lockout, and I'm ecstatic about it now.For Vrbata we got a bag of pucks.[Edited on December 31, 2005 at 1:25 AM. Yeah, last night was the most excited I've been for the future of the team in a long time. He made a few saves that were just ridiculous.

i have 2 questions to anyone who might know...1.) what is the point of trading a player for future considerations? 2.) why the hell did they move cole off of staal's line? it does not seem to be working!~

Glen Wesley out 4-6 weeks with a sprained knee ligament.Knees are not being kind to the Canes this year...
1/4/2006 12:48:49 AM
^^1. Sometimes it's a salary dump, sometimes it's to get rid of a guy with a bad attitude (since you can't cut them in the NHL, if you want them out of the system you have to trade them), and sometimes, as in the case with Vrbata, it's to give a guy a chance to play up to his potential when you have no room for him. That's how we got a shot at Gerber.2. Lines get shuffled when they aren't working. Staal's playing hurt and his passing has suffered, and Cole can play his game on any line and works well with Brindy.

FWIW, the Isles' other goalie tonight will be ECHL 'tender Frederic Cloutier who was signed by the team today on an emergency basis. The Isles' tandem has a grand total of three games of NHL experience, and they all belong to The Dube. He's no slouch, though; he was the AHL Player of the Week last week, going 3-0-0 and stopping 86 of 87 shots.[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 5:45 PM. Reason : d]

1/7/2006 1:32:43 AM
Seemed like he was back in form tonight, although it didn't result in any points. He had some good shots and then that breakaway near the end of the game.
1/7/2006 1:56:48 AM
Yeah, he seemed to have his hands back and was making nice passes, though a few of them didn't have enough heat and got the buddy pass treatment. He's not much of a deker even though he has the skills, so it was a nice move for The Dube to throw a pad stack out there. Between getting conked by Boullion and pummelled by Chara, though, it seemed like he was behind a step and having a wrist problem as well. I hope today was an indication that he's back on track.
