I have no plan to use subsonic .223 with me can. It is hearing safe with full power rounds. I'm not looking for movie quiet either. My .223 can is purely just because.

sent in my bushnell scope that wasnt working...they are replacing it with a brand new higher powered model for free.sometimes it pays to go the old fashioned hand written letter/delivery method.
10/15/2013 6:18:44 PM
Cheaper than Dirt selling Lake City M193 for 39-cents/round.

I'm done with CTD
10/16/2013 10:39:54 PM
+ $500 for shipping, right?
10/16/2013 11:01:13 PM
^^ Yeah, I think a lot of people are pissed at them for raising prices during ammo crunches, but while I appreciate it when companies keep their prices steady during times like that as a gesture of goodwill, I can't really fault a company for raising their prices when demand is high and supply is low. That's just the way shit works. If you don't like it, don't buy 80-million fucking rounds at scalper prices every time a Democrat sneezes the wrong way.^ Nah, it was something like $15 for 510 rounds.
10/17/2013 12:31:59 AM
PMC XTAC 62gr M855 $0.40 cents a round shipped. Not the best price, but better. I remember cases for $205 shipped. The 55 GR is the same price as well.Cases qualify for free shipping.https://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-3107-pmc-x-tac-ammo-556x45mm-m855-62-grain-green-tip-full-metal-jacket-ammunition.aspxhttps://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-3106-pmc-x-tac-ammo-556x45mm-nato-55-grain-full-metal-jacket-ammunition.aspx

^^ agreed. Plus I can just drive to their store and avoid shipping

Oh snap, Cabela's coming to...Garner?
10/24/2013 9:47:45 PM
Anybody else wading back in with ammo purchases? I'm starting to buy meaningful amounts, but not going totally nuts, figuring that prices will still come back down a little more.I haven't bought any crazy quantities (other than 2k rounds of 9mm for .28/per back when ammo was still truly scarce), but I order maybe 500 rounds of one caliber or another than I own maybe 2x/month now. I'm probably up to about 3k rounds of 9mm, 1k of .45 ACP, probably 1.5k of 5.56 (well, a few .223 in the mix). I finally found some 140-gr match ammo for 6.5 Creedmoor, too...60 rounds of it on the way. .22 LR (and probably a few shorts/Colibris) is probably up next. That and maybe some 120-grain Creedmoor, just to see if it likes one more than the other. What are historically good prices on .22LR again? Looks like it's going for about 8-cents/round right now.
10/26/2013 10:35:37 PM
I believe the last time I purchased .22lr it was 5,250 rounds of Blazer 40 gr lead round nose for just under $290 shipped, which puts it about $29/box shipped. I doubt you'll find it at $25/box like I did at the beginning of the ammo shortage. I want to say that I once bought a similar 5,000 round Blazer package at $200 about a year before that. The $290/5,250 rounds comes down to about about nickle/round. I think you'd be lucky to get some "reliable" .22lr rounds at $0.15/round, while dirty/bulk/target rounds are around the $.07/round-$0.10/round range.[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 11:09 PM. 10/26/2013 10:59:15 PM
haha, that just reminded me to check in my own safe. I have an old brick of Blazer .22LR just like that one in there...there's still a price tag on it of $21.99. That's from years ago, though.I'm only seeing it for about double that. Now part of that is just due to inflation. That box of mine could very well be 10 years old or more (I went for a while without a .22LR--just a .22 WMR).If I can find some at around 6-7 cents/round, I might buy a couple thousand rounds of it.
10/26/2013 11:10:30 PM
You know. I don't recall when the ammo shortage and price gouging on ammo began. How long has it been, 3 years now?[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 11:19 PM. Reason : .]
10/26/2013 11:19:09 PM
'08 was the first shortage, immediately after the election of President Obama. I was in Iraq at the time and missed the worst/majority of it.[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 11:23 PM. Reason : ]

I have a half used 500 rnd box of Winchester Dynapoints with a $12.99 price tag on it. I remember griping about paying $2 more than it was worth. I love Dynapoints and would happily snatch a bunch up at twice the price. There's no 22 in rocky mount unless you're willing to pay 200-300%.
10/26/2013 11:30:50 PM
eyeing slickguns and most of the online stores its not hard to find good .22 ammo at $.1 and bulk at $.06shipping is hit or miss depending on site and what you order with it.
10/26/2013 11:38:57 PM
the current shortage began in the wake of sandy hook. almost a year ago.
10/27/2013 8:00:37 AM
Picked up a G30S a couple weeks ago. Haven't shot it yet, but I'm happy so far.Traded into a Lone Wolf TimberWolf Race Frame today, and a TacSol .22lr glock upper w/ threaded barrel.

where do you people, or people you know, get steel targets locally?looking for a gong 10-12" one.scrap guy said goto TT&E and buy scrap steel at like $.15/lb not sure if i want to go up there and try my luck at a roundish 3/8-1/2" thick plate.
10/29/2013 10:38:58 PM
there's a place down here near where i work that deals in scrap metal. he's gets "scrap" that is still useful to a lot of DIY type folks. all sorts of plate in there. he'll whip out the torch and cut you what you want. it's a lot cheaper to just get cheap steel that won't hold up to heavy rifle rounds and only use it for one range trip than it is to buy actual steel targets. that way you can shoot cheap steel core, penetrator, AP, etc. (that not even AR500 will hold up to) and not care. hang them up with cheap cow chain.8-12" 150# blank flanges work great. no torch required. already round and have holes for hanging.
10/29/2013 10:57:57 PM
we used to shoot at worn out agricultural disc blades, and just replace them as needed.
10/30/2013 9:25:26 AM
I like preparing all these things, taking my girlfriend, backing up 50-100 yards, and the first thing she shoots is the chain."Well! Lets just put this on hold for another 20 minutes while I redo everything."
10/30/2013 10:25:34 AM
^^Thats what I did. I had an endless supply of them. The disc blades couldnt stand up to anything other than .22LR, but "ripper" blades from the back of rippers could take hits from anything up to .223.
10/30/2013 10:41:55 AM
Cabelas has federal auto match .22 lot for $17.99 (325 rounds). 5.5 cents per round if you don't include tax/shipping. If they allowed more than one box I would grab some, don't feel like going out of my way to Cabelas for under 500 rounds. It has been in stock all day so it must mean that this crazy run on .22 is starting to die down a little bit.

That was poor editing on my part. It was supposed to say don't shoot cheap steel up close. I was at a range where they had some thick gongs made of some milder steel. Even at 40 yards spall was heading back at the shooters. Apparently that was a regular thing for them. It's a wonder no one had been seriously hurt. I never went back there.[Edited on October 31, 2013 at 10:07 AM. Reason : Damned autocorrect ]
10/31/2013 10:06:22 AM
i stick with 50 yds minimum for rimfire and 100 yds min for centerfire on steel that's full of craters.
10/31/2013 1:01:35 PM
Got to spend all afternoon ringing steel with a few hundred 9mm rounds. Anywhere from 10-20 yards out.
10/31/2013 4:55:03 PM
All afternoon ----> a few hundred roundsHow many people were in your group? When I'm by myself, a few hundred rounds is about 1-2 hours tops.
10/31/2013 5:02:38 PM
There were 21 others shooting so there was some down time between stations. Total shooting time was probably close to two hours. The rest of the time was spent setting up, breaking down, and cleaning weapons.
10/31/2013 6:42:22 PM
Sounds better than the in-service I have next...its being touted as "fun" and a "good time." This place is going to get good people killed.
10/31/2013 7:42:47 PM
Sounds about like my experience with the State of NC.I'm looking forward to getting sent to West Virginia, the shooting there will be far more fun and much more frequent.

Was out by Concord Mills Mall today and got some 40 S&W for a decent price.2 boxes of 100 rnd Winchester 165gr FMJ for $81.30 OTD. Puts it about 40 cents/rnd. Not bad in comparison to Wal-mart prices from a few years back which were ~34cents/rnd for blazer 165grn / 180grn. I used to be able to reload for ~18cents/round but I'm out of HS-6. there are plenty of other powders that will work for .40
11/2/2013 8:41:23 PM
picked up some steel locally. non AR500. but i got 2 1/2" plates that are maybe 8" and 10"and a few 3/8" squares for closer pistol shooting. i should be fine with the 1/2 plates at around 100-125 yard right?
11/4/2013 7:34:57 PM

PSA has 1k rds of American Eagle 55 gr for $400
11/6/2013 6:23:28 AM
Finally saw some 100-round Winchester white box 9mm 115-grain at Wal-Mart last night. That's the first time I've seen it since before the events at Sandy Hook.
11/8/2013 10:47:16 AM
ordered a P226 Mk25
11/8/2013 1:50:25 PM
i guess i should get some stuff to load 9mm. got a big sack of brass. should be good with W231 and small pistol primers. i have no bullets and no dies.
11/9/2013 6:38:03 AM
I really want a sig too. It took me a bit to realize just how well built they are. Unfortunately my next purchase is probably a fn 45 and a matching osprey. I have no good reason for it but I want one while trusts are still easy.I'd like a .30cal too I think.
11/9/2013 7:16:22 AM
^^I still have the RCBS 9mm dies...
11/9/2013 8:13:40 AM
i just ordered a set of dillon dies. they work better on my 550B and the price difference isn't significant. i appreciate it, though.[Edited on November 9, 2013 at 8:24 AM. Reason : i needed a 9mm caliber conversion and all that crap anyway.]
11/9/2013 8:23:29 AM
What's the price difference on a MK25 vs a P226 with rail.
11/9/2013 9:34:46 AM
not exactly sure. i paid $814 shipped plus my FFL's transfer fee. from what i saw, i couldn't get a P226R and a set of tritium sights for that.plus, i got that sweet little gold anchor on the side
11/9/2013 10:00:16 AM
I'm loving my FN-45 Tactical, and it seems perfectly built for a can. I have to say that it's the easiest gun to shoot for a southpaw that I've ever handled.
11/9/2013 11:18:15 AM
Anyone replaced the connectors on their Glocks? If so, what make/model connector did you use and what's the trigger feel like afterwards?I just got a gen 4 26 and am thinking about getting a factory 3.5 connector.
