I shoot them at my parents house. Hand thrown.Dont know if that counts, but my current fav is a 20ga semi-auto from Academy Sports (Yildiz). Its their exclusive brand. Its a champ so far. Occasionally ill use a pump 12ga, Mossberg. I dont do any worse but its certainly less pleasant after awhile.I could shoot that 20 all day.

I have a 12 gauge BPS and a SBEII. I've thought about buying a Citori or a Cynergy, but I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a gun just for clays.

god that is a beautiful gun.
10/1/2013 10:35:46 AM
Why is the bottom barrel ported more?
10/1/2013 11:52:24 AM
usually the bottom and top barrels have different chokes. most of the time you'd want a tighter choke on the second shot if the bird is going away from you.
10/1/2013 12:29:29 PM
Is there really that much of a benefit to those expensive OU's? I don't know much about shotguns and even less about nice ones, seems crazy to me to drop that much cash on one though, wouldn't mind learning why.
10/1/2013 12:46:02 PM
Old men at country clubs, that's why....and monocles.
10/1/2013 12:47:21 PM
it's kinda like going deer hunting with a cheap econobolt rifle vs. a custom kimberthey'll both do the job ok, but one is certainly better and worth the money to some folks
10/1/2013 12:55:07 PM
sporting models are usually a little heavier. of the mind that in the field you carry a lot and shoot a little. on the stand you carry a little and shoot a lot. so a heavier gun will give you a smoother swing and deaden some of the recoil.$$$ is definitely all about the person. I've scored higher on courses with my 28" field model Red Label against wealthy snobs carrying Silver Pigeons and all kinds of sporting models.but i'm really enjoying shooting more, so i'd like to find a sporting model with a 30" barrel. will probably look in the used market.
10/1/2013 2:59:21 PM
The biggest advantage of an O/U is that you can have 2 different chokes on the gun at the same time, and some of them you can decide which barrel shoots first. A gas operated semi-auto will provide excellent recoil reduction, but you can't switch chokes for the second shot before the clay hits the ground. At a certain point though, the looks of the gun certainly come into play where cost is concerned. The beautiful wood of some guns costs a pretty penny.....add in engraving and other things and the price can skyrocket.

Try Sporting Clays sometime, You might be surprised how much fun you have.
10/1/2013 9:50:06 PM
maybe one day i'll get into it. i don't think it'll be soon.
10/1/2013 9:58:59 PM
You can buy an old Marlin SuperGoose bolt-action 12ga with a 36" barrel and extra full choke. They're the sniper rifles of the shotgun world. Super cheap used.
10/2/2013 5:52:22 PM
What true 5.56 ammo is out there besides surplus M855 and M193? I have probably 1000 rounds of .223, but I want to make my future purchases in actual 5.56.
10/2/2013 10:25:46 PM
why?
10/2/2013 11:08:00 PM
"Surplus" 5.56 isn't like surplus 7.62x39, its usually pretty quality stuff. I prefer PMC XTAC if I can get it

Ordering another suppressor soon. After the machine gun and silencer shoot, I have been able to compare AAC, Surefire, and Inovative Arms.Ordering an Inovative Arms Grunt. http://www.innovativearms.com/id24.html

^^ Oh I have no problem with Lake City stuff or whatever. I'm just looking for other options, for the sake of availability and for bullet choice.^^^ more power never hurt anyone, but mostly I'm curious to see if I gain accuracy.
10/3/2013 2:05:55 AM
55 gr at 3000 fps is 55 gr at 3000 fps, no matter what's stamped on the box
10/3/2013 6:28:26 AM
if you're talking about a defensive situation, then i'd rather have a ballistic tip going 2700 fps than a FMJ doing 3000
10/3/2013 7:01:38 AM
Sig Mosquito or Walther P22? Fun plinker that I want to suppress eventually, not worried about any difference in price.Leaning Sig due to its similarity to their other guns (could use as a teaching tool for the wife)
10/3/2013 12:03:39 PM
i'd pass on them both for a ruger mark ii[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:08 PM. Reason : had a mosquito. it was picky on ammo.][Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:09 PM. Reason : lots of aftermarket for the rugers. they drive tacks.]
10/3/2013 12:06:37 PM
If I wanted a target gun I would agree with you. I just can't stand those for some reason though and this is literally just going to used for punching paper and shooting those .22 flip style targets.[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:11 PM. Reason : And I want to add a suppressor, not sure how easy that would be with the ruger][Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:14 PM. Reason : Just saw some have threaded barrels. If cabelas has one I will think on it (got gift cards son)]
10/3/2013 12:09:52 PM
the 22/45 versions might be more tolerable for you. mark IIs are harder to find, so you could get a new mark III with a threaded bbl.and you can get one of those cool mag loaders and blow through hundreds of dollars worth of ammo in no time!actually, the high price of .22LR is leading to a buyer's market in the used rimfire world.[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:19 PM. Why is a Mark II the preferred Ruger ?
10/3/2013 12:37:32 PM
I prefer semi-auto and just have never been a big fan of bolt or revolver pistols. Ending up getting a P22 to plink with and help provide some easy training for the wife to familiarize herself with guns as well. If you do go for the Sig/Walther 22 or really any modern semi-auto 22 handgun then be prepared for it to be a very picky eater. The majority of them right out of the box with no mods tend to only like higher grain roundnose and/or higher velocity 22's which are a little harder to come by in this market right now. The loose bulk box stuff, hollow points, and standard velocity mostly suck in the fact that they either jam up, don't have enough power to kick the slide all the way back, or just are plain dirty and gum up too quick. All my standard velocity or loose bulk I come across I save for the rifle or sell off to friends. A few people have better luck and theirs works great with anything but it seems to be luck of the draw. My coworkers have a M&P 22 and Sig Mosquito and they feel the same way.

Y'all with the M&P22, how does the trigger feel compared to other guns?I really want one because my duty gun is an M&P40, but I haven't jumped on it since it has a manual safety (doesn't fit in some M&P holsters), the backstraps aren't interchangeable, and it's dao hammer fired.
10/3/2013 6:42:49 PM
I've got a Volquartsen Trigger kit for my Mk 22/45 and it's awesome. A lot of people love how crisp and light the trigger is. The kit is expensive, but I got mine at a pretty good price. You can easily fix the mag "free fall." The Ruger series .22LR pistols are some of the best semi-auto pistols imo. Mag safety is also eliminated from the VQ kit.[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 7:23 PM. ruger sr22 over any of those. sig mosq is the worst. walther and m&p are pretty similar.this is all based on ammo. ive done a good bit of reading about the various .22 handguns. the ruger is by far the one that shots almost any one of those varietys of .22. if you got the sig, youd better stick to whatever brand it shoots the best.
10/3/2013 8:58:52 PM
I have a feeling this might be a record for asking for advice and making a purchase...
10/3/2013 9:32:39 PM
not a bad choice
10/3/2013 9:38:04 PM
What really sold me was the threaded barrel option along with all the stuff I was seeing about the sig being really picky about ammo. With a can on the 22/45 it looks sick, I just need to get that trust set up now...
10/3/2013 9:42:28 PM
i hope the rimfire ammo situation is better down there than it is here
10/3/2013 9:46:44 PM
yeah, but that'll be a passing thing. .22LR isn't gonna be expensive or hard to find forever.
10/3/2013 9:49:39 PM
supply will eventually catch up, but i don't think we'll see prices fall back to where they were
