the part that goes into the phone is reversible. so you don't have to find the front of it to plug it in.
9/12/2012 1:49:17 PM
gotcha. that makes a hell of a lot more sense. thanks.posting to FB from Siri? That will end will.

Iphone 5
9/12/2012 1:58:30 PM
nope
9/12/2012 1:59:41 PM
Going to announce Apple's Pandora now.
9/12/2012 2:02:35 PM
iPod nano significant changes. I personally wouldn't buy one, but wasn't the coolest thing about the iPod nano the ability to make it into a watch? That seems be gone now.
9/12/2012 2:21:22 PM
yeah i liked the just-made-obsolete version of the nano better. it was basically a better version of the shuffle.
9/12/2012 2:23:47 PM
yep, no more smartwatch. go out and buy the current gen nanos, because retro-nerds are going to want them in about 10 years and pay high dollar for the ones in good condition.
9/12/2012 2:24:34 PM
That's weird, I wouldn't have considered buying the old nanos, but I almost want to buy one of the new ones. I'm gonna wait and see the price, and the hackability/OS on it, but if it's close to $100, it might just be in impulse buying territory the next time I'm in an Apple store.[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 2:38 PM. Reason : eh, $149. Maybe if it's hackable.]
9/12/2012 2:34:26 PM
Possibly the best announcement so far is one about the iTunes redesign
9/12/2012 2:46:31 PM
i am underwhelmed and will definitely be buying the iphone 5.seems contradictory right? fuck it
9/12/2012 2:51:06 PM
Apple website:
9/12/2012 3:01:31 PM
There was definitely nothing jaw dropping, but everything Seems well put together. It's near the top of my list for now, I will have to see what google has in store for the inevitable upcoming nexus and how Wp8 turns out before I buy anything though.

9/12/2012 3:33:47 PM
seriously? Wow.

^^^Sometimes it is great implementation that's important more so than the general idea. Siri was truly innovative IMO, and that was a software change as well as a feature that others had before. But it was the first time I was talking to a computer and didn't feel like i was talking to a computer. It was a stark contrast to the Voice Control function, which was horrendous even by the non-apple standards. On the new phone, not very much to be super excited about hardware-wise. New features of OS6 is exciting, but 3GS and up will get most of the software update features (other than Siri for 3GS and 4). Turn-by-turn navigation looks promising, but mostly because it was sooo behind the bimes as compared to other OS and stand-alone navigators. I hope they blow it out of the park like they have done with Siri. Increase in data transfer and processing speed may allow for better apps though.^^Adapter is poorly executed IMO. They should have made it wider and less tall (I assume they need the volume inside for A/D processing chips), and it should have mimicked the 4G iPhone shape on the bottom and possibly cradle the new iPhone on top, so it could fit into all the old peripherals.[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 4:26 PM. Are you supposed to be Igor from Hugo House of Horrors?
9/12/2012 4:19:21 PM
Why, are you supposed to be from the Matrix?
9/12/2012 4:26:51 PM
9/12/2012 4:28:43 PM
yeah, Siri was-- in my mind-- mostly disappointing. the primary use case that I've found is using Siri to send texts while i'm driving.

I'm pretty sure I beat any DOS games by at least five years But yeah I'm not from HoH, I'm from Ukraine and that's my name IRL.^^I think it would have been better is if the processing was done onboard and only requested data if it needed soem new data to answer your question. Other than that, Siri worked very well when I had a chance to use it during a 2-weel long roadtrip on my friend's iPhone, it was pretty natural to talk to it. I have iPhone 4 so I dont use it day-to day.

Actually he is spot-on about TJ (and Marshall's, Ross etc) being the best place to buy discounted third-party peripherals for iStuff. I got iPad cover and a set of screen protectors couple weeks ago for less than 1/2 the price of the same exact brand stuff a priced by Best Buy. I also saw that they had a Memorex iPhone dock there for 1/2 of what I paid for the same exact model ON SALE in BB (albeit a few months ago)But yeah the adapter should have an A/D converter chipset in it, because apparently the new dock connector is all-digital[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 4:58 PM. isn't the A6 chip kind of a big deal? that's faster than the ipad 3 right?
9/12/2012 5:43:27 PM
9/12/2012 5:46:20 PM
Have you been in one of their stores? Third party accessories all over the place.Anyway, they may do that but I'm just not assuming it until its confirmed. I like to not assume the worst from the beginning, but then I've also learned to live with disappointment.
9/12/2012 5:54:56 PM
I generally think of Apple as a somewhat malevolent company, but I don't see them doing that.
9/12/2012 5:57:00 PM
Is there any reason to try to pre-order it at 12am PST? It's not like they will run out before normal hours right?
9/12/2012 6:52:19 PM
If Samsung were smart, they would include a free iPod dock converter with purchase of their phones.
9/12/2012 7:35:56 PM
Why are they calling it the iPhone 5???That's so dumb! They should have called it 'the new iphone' Isn't everyone else shocked they are calling it the iPhone 5?Why did they make this decision? They could have called it so many things, other than the iPhone 5. I don't understand why they are calling it the iPhone 5, instead of something else, like 'the new iPhone'.
9/12/2012 8:07:52 PM
how much does it cost full retail? All I can find is the upgrade price.
9/12/2012 8:11:53 PM
people still buy iPhones?
9/12/2012 8:19:27 PM
people still think it's cool to shit on iphones?
9/12/2012 8:25:31 PM
I'll buy one when my contract is up in Nov. I mean sure it isn't revolutionary like the original but I am still using the 4 and it works great. I am excited about it being taller, thinner, faster, and 4g capable. Those reasons alone are enough for me to get one.

Maybe they're doing the Intel tick-tock thing.By this time next year, iOS is going to be hurting VERY badly for a major software upgrade. The hardware design of the phone seems pretty slick, but iOS is getting long in the tooth. It's paradigms were designed before people really knew how to design UIs on high powered multitouch UIs.
9/12/2012 9:15:59 PM
^^did I hurt your feelings, I was sharing an article that had interesting points about the new dock connector which is a big inconvenience for some people who dont want to throw away old accessories. it's not even USB 3.0 or thunderbolt...
9/12/2012 9:28:42 PM
i've never gotten the hate for the dock connector. Most households have an Apple device already, so if you need to charge you phone at a friend's place, it's pretty easy. And it does way more than a regular old USB connector as has already been pointed out.
9/12/2012 9:36:01 PM
^^why would you think that hurt my feelings? You posted an article, and I posted a different one that brought up another viewpoint and reasons why micro-usb wouldn't be the best idea. Don't take it so personal bro, it's just the internet. It doesn't have to be so serious. And everyone with an opposing viewpoint doesn't have to be pissed off. microUSB is universal, not everyone I know has an iphone and wants to $$$ for a $2 connector.Aside from that, the phone has some really nice qualities (bigger screen, lighter, faster, LTE) and is worth the money. I guess innovation in the smartphone space is declining and cool, new features will be harder to come by.I really hope Apple could come out with something cool in the tv space, I'd love to get rid of my TWC cable box and replace it with a cool Apple set top box...
