I'm skeptical, but if this works it'll be hard to turn down The Verge: Best Buy’s Pixel 3 sale might be unbeatable: $400 off for Black Friday.https://www.theverge.com/good-deals/2018/11/21/18107357/google-pixel-3-xl-black-friday-verizon-best-buy-sale-deal

Pulled the trigger. Can't pass on $400 off. It's not a bill credit, can pay off tomorrow

^app romoves the discount if you select pay in full. Will vz2 let you. Pay off balance and still give you credit for 24 months?

Shit I was just going by what I read here: https://slickdeals.net/f/12268417-pixel-3-pixel-3-xl-400-off-at-best-buy-thanksgiving-day-and-black-friday-400-16?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1fwiw:

When I log on to VZW's site it shows $400 "paid" towards the device, with $24.99/month remaining for 24 months.

didn't realize Google limited fast charging to their chargers only. Shit move, Google. Now my current fast chargers might as well be bricks
11/26/2018 2:58:31 PM
I recommend you install an app called "Ampere" and see what charge you're actually getting. While I think you're mostly right in that only Google's chargers deliver a full 18w fast charge, plenty of my other quick-charge/etc chargers charge my pixels at a pretty good clip...I certainly don't consider them bricks. Do some testing with that Ampere.I've been reading that some of the 3-party wireless OEM chargers can do 18w too (and ordered one to test with in addition to the Pixel Stand) but we'll see about that. Apparently when shopping for chargers look for a feature called "Power Delivery 2.0"[Edited on November 26, 2018 at 4:16 PM. Reason : ]
11/26/2018 4:15:02 PM
do you know if the limitations are for wireless only? e.g can I get third party wires / adapters and have fast charging
11/26/2018 5:02:20 PM
^ I've seen some wired chargers on amazon that reviews say they charge their pixels rapidly (search reviews for pixel), but don't know that i've observed any that I own show up as rapidly charging. Check for Power Delivery 2.0 chargers on Amazon and search the reviews. From a brief look at them earlier they were mostly almost as expensive as the OEM Google chargers : /]

These look good if you want to eek out the fastest charging rates: https://slickdeals.net/f/12355612-anker-2-port-usb-a-usb-c-power-delivery-chargers-wall-17-car-13?[Edited on November 27, 2018 at 1:54 PM. Reason : Anker is a popular brand]
11/27/2018 1:52:40 PM
I have that charger. It's legit. My P3XL shows "charging rapidly" in the car now. I guess fast charge 2.0 isn't "fast charge" anymore.
11/27/2018 1:57:00 PM
if youre plugging phone in overnight you want it to charge as slow as possible cause fast charging shortens battery life i believe also if your battery doesnt last all day then you need to put the thing down and enjoy real life more

There's also this battery pack, which supports PD: https://www.amazon.com/10400mAh-Portable-Charger-Delivery-Compatible/dp/B07H98W3V7/ - Currently $20 after coupon. Most of the PD ones are a good bit more expensive.

What are the good newish phones available through Verizon, S10 and Pixel 3?
4/15/2019 11:20:46 PM
I'm in the camp of buy the newest chipset available, so if I was in the market I'd target the S10.[Edited on April 16, 2019 at 12:23 AM. Reason : I have a Pixel 3 XL and it's great...so if you can save $400 vs a S10 then that's ok too]

what are you all using for weather? I've always been a wunderground user, but I swear the app is buggy, laggy, etc. and I'm getting tired of it. No special needs; just like having a temp/conditions icon in the status bar, moderately detailed pull-down tile, and a full-featured app. Great RADAR is a major plus; otherwise, what's a good RADAR app? I don't like downloading and testing random info stealing apps.
6/5/2019 2:44:40 PM
I love Dark Sky.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.darksky.darksky&hl=en_USI think I got it for $1, but I'd pay more if I had to.
6/5/2019 3:19:29 PM
I use built-in widgets and Google weather for detailed stuffFor a bare bones radar app, I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appdlab.radarexpress
6/5/2019 5:18:13 PM
Another vote for Dark SkyMeteogam is good if you want a very customizable, high detail widget but it's a real pain to setup and isnt as pretty as modern apps like Dark Sky
6/5/2019 6:12:34 PM
MyRadar has always been really good for me. Never really tried anything else simply because it hasn't let me down.
6/5/2019 7:23:39 PM
another vote for MyRadar

RadarScope if you want to go full weather nerd. It's more app than most folks need.

do people actually pay this much for a phone case?https://www.cases.com/lifeproof-fre-case-for-samsung-galaxy-s10-plus-body-surf/
8/18/2019 3:32:37 AM
I paid $40 for one once
8/18/2019 9:58:18 AM
^^ ever heard of rich people?if there are phones that cost several thousand dollars (porsche/lambo/ferrai logoed korean/chinese brands), then a 100 for a case is nothing. pretty sure those people buy cases worth several hundred dollars.been to several top-end stores lately (they are quite common where i am) and have come across $3k formal shoes, $1k sneakers, $250 t-shirts, $500 polos, etc.yes, rich people exist.p.s. many cars costing several $100k exist, as do many hypercars now in the $several million price range, so what kind of question is this? million dollar watches?

^ Lol I know, but of all the things you could ask that about, a $90 phone case is one of the most 'pedestrian'.How about a bespoke suit made with fabric infused with diamond dust? The Tailor 'Picky' Footballers Turn to for Their Diamond suitshttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-49341413Yup, $54,000 for a suit.
8/19/2019 3:25:45 PM
because this thread is about phones and accessories, not the richest people or most expensive things in the world
8/19/2019 5:21:50 PM
Yes I know, so there shouldn't be anything shocking with a $90 phone case in a time and age when there are several phones in the $700-1,000+ price range (regular models, not special editions). 10 years ago there would be, or a $200 case now would be.

A decade later I have pretty much abandoned android. Too many "flagship" phones that did not hold value and did not perform well. Looking for a deal on a pixel though.

$600? Same price I paid for a 128GB version a year ago.Pixel 4 will probably have a similar Black Friday deal so I'd wait for that.

About to pull the trigger on a Google Pixel 4 within this week. For those who have expertise in the Pixel 3 and/or 4 through ownership or otherwise, is there any reason I should not get the 4 and save my money and get the 3?I was going to get a new phone about 6 months ago, so at that time I was going for the 3 as 4 had just come out and was too expensive. But now 5 will be out in half a year, so I am thinking I should go for the 4.If it helps to know, these are the only smartphones I have owned:Nexus 5: 2014-2016 (but used it till it died in 2019, actually screen died, phone works)Nexus 5X: 2016-presentAbsolutely loved the 5; 5X isn't as good IMO.Thanks!
4/15/2020 8:21:44 AM
I loved my nexus 5 too
4/15/2020 11:45:37 AM
I have had all the Pixels and currently have a 3XL.Was interested in the 4 but it didn't really sway me to spend the money over what I have with my 3. Specs and battery life weren't great. Camera is great on the 3 and not much improved on the 4. If I were you I'd get the 3 for now and maybe get the 5 when it comes out. Minor point but the 3 has front spacing speakers which is very helpful. Also I love the fingerprint sensor on my 3. It is very fast. Sounds like they got rid of it on the 4.https://www.droidviews.com/dont-buy-google-pixel-4/[Edited on April 15, 2020 at 12:35 PM. Reason : I say that not knowing what the price difference is between the 3 and 4 atm]
