ha I was just thinking the same thing
8/1/2012 8:23:29 AM
I am looking forward to getting my first iPhone. Have had an Evo for the past couple years, and now that Sprint has the iPhone I just hope they'll get it like the other major carriers in September.
8/1/2012 9:07:36 AM
can they put Swype or something like that on the new iPhone?
8/1/2012 10:26:59 AM
well whenever it's announced. I have no idea when they do this mess, it's just usually in June and sept.
8/1/2012 12:21:56 PM
just got my invite for 9/12PUMPED
8/1/2012 12:49:53 PM
After using jelly bean 4.1 for a week on this Nexus 7 I may be ditching the iPhone and iPad. This is way better than iOS.
8/1/2012 12:53:14 PM
^^ huh? is it official now?

iOS6 Jailbreaker sells his JB iPhone4 to an Apple programmer for $50http://appadvice.com/appnn/2012/08/former-ios-6-hacker-p0sixninja-betrays-jailbreak-community
8/4/2012 8:51:21 AM
im sure they'll find another way.
8/4/2012 12:26:28 PM
maybe he can still use find my iphone to lock and wipe it lol.jk
8/6/2012 12:23:07 PM
no more youtube integration in iOS?
8/6/2012 3:19:29 PM
False. No more standalone app included in iOS by default. Big difference. You can still watch youtube videos in the browser (which is better than the stupid app anyway) and google will be releasing their own app for people that want to have a standalone app. The only difference is that you'll have to choose to download it instead of it being pre-installed. It's really not as big of a deal as everyone seems to be wanting it to be.
8/6/2012 5:55:56 PM
why would they do that? a youtube app is a pretty big deal to most people. (even if you can still download it)
8/6/2012 11:11:52 PM
Because Google and Apple are clearly drawing a line in the sand against each other. They are competing in the exact same space and at some point you knew something like this would happen. It's not like Youtube support is gone, Apple can't do that (yet) because Google owned YouTube makes up like 75% of videos online. But you better believe they want to.
8/6/2012 11:26:32 PM
i won't miss the app at all.. i found it annoying whenever i was taken out of another app just to watch a video. that didn't seem to always happen but i don't remember the exact situations.
8/6/2012 11:26:34 PM
as long as it can still play videos, then i guess it is OKhowever, if apple tries to go completely away from youtube and won't play the videos period, then a lot of people will jump ship to the other guys
8/7/2012 7:56:25 AM
8/7/2012 9:11:16 AM
so when are we looking for a the next phone to be released... my 4 is about dead.
8/7/2012 9:12:24 AM
Rumors so far are announcement on 9/12 and release about two weeks later, I think.
8/7/2012 9:21:36 AM
Nacho - I was saying that it's not like that mythical support for Youtube videos does not exist. I realize that most everything is HTML5 now (at least with good sites that care about compatibility) it's the whole reason Anrdoid's Jellybean can drop mobile flash. My point was that Apple would prefer to have a way to be the go to person for videos and push Google out of the way completely. They don't want to have to supply a way to use their competitors products, but they are also not stupid and won't completely remove them without having a very popular Apple alternative. All you have to do is look at the Maps application for the way they plan to go with apps previously provided by Google.

any ideas of current price points for resell of a 4S and what the new cost of the "5" may be?
8/7/2012 11:43:03 AM
When you're talking price, are you meaning the subsidized price from a provider like AT&T/Verizon with a 2 year contract or the brand new price with no contract?I've seen no indication that pricing will differ on the iPhone 5 from the previous price structure. I would expect to pay $200 with a 2 year contract from the major providers for whatever the "base" version of the iPhone 5 is.As far as resale value of old iPhone 4S, you should be able to get a pretty penny for it now, and slightly less after the 5 comes out. Apple phones hold a pretty high value even after they are a model old.
8/7/2012 11:54:16 AM
if you can jailbreak your 4 or 4s and it is in pretty good physical condition, you can easily pay for a subsidized 5. I have been doing that since the first one. Every other year, subsidized. Pay full price (minus the sale price of previous version) the other years.I have never "payed" for a phone upgrade and I have had every model. https://www.google.com/search?q=jailbroken+iphone+4&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS435&aq=f&sugexp=chrome,mod=10&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#hl=en&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS435&tbm=shop&sclient=psy-ab&q=used+jailbroken+iphone+4&oq=used+jailbroken+iphone+4&gs_l=serp.3...9328.9908.0.10118.5.5.0.0.0.2.201.603.1j3j1.5.0...0.0...1c.tSla64Y-P3A&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=3ba8dca76e6cdcf1&biw=1366&bih=643
8/7/2012 1:25:46 PM
thats what im hoping to do^I have the 4s, not jailbroken. And it was on a 2 year contract last nov.
8/7/2012 1:42:02 PM
nacho, i was talking about a lot of "inexperienced" users (like my mother, aunt, friends who are not computer savvy), who would probably have no clue how to open a youtube video if not for the youtube app. believe it or not, there are a LOT of people who rely solely on that app to watch youtube videos.I understand from your point of view that it doesn't really make a difference to the tech-savvy person. I agree with you.
8/7/2012 2:40:06 PM
I would assume there will be a downloadable YouTube app, probably very similar if not identical to the interface and functionality of the current app, the only difference being it's not integral to the OS.
8/7/2012 4:10:35 PM
i have never once jailbreaked my iphone maybe i should before 5 comes out to see what i've been missing.
8/7/2012 4:24:47 PM
I have a verizon iphone 4s that is NOT jail broken. Would I be able to sell it on eBay? How would I go about "restoring" or erasing all my info off of it?
8/7/2012 4:35:10 PM
If anyone has a tmobile or AT&T iPhone 4s they're looking to sell before the new one comes out, I might be interested...pm me.
8/7/2012 7:40:34 PM
^^ yes. go to Settings & Erase All Content & Settings. It may be under Security but I'm not sure since I sold mine a couple of weeks ago.
8/7/2012 8:03:40 PM
how would i go about that? would i have to upgrade to the new iphone first so that my 4s is "deactivated"? then i'd be able to sell it right? Would verizon have to do anything to it so that my account is no longer tagged to it?
8/7/2012 8:59:18 PM
^If you buy a new phone and activate it, your current phone is no longer tied to the account and the ESN is clear for someone else to use it.
8/8/2012 7:35:38 AM
oh sweet. then i'll pay full retail for the new iphone and then just sell my 4s on ebay....the price difference will probably be the same as me buying the phone at upgrade price (which i'm not eligible for until july '13)
8/8/2012 12:12:41 PM
Only downside there is that you had to pay tax on the full $650 amount.
8/8/2012 3:46:39 PM
yeah that's true.... wonder how much i'll be able to get for my verizon 4s with the case...everything on it is flawless b/c i've had the case and screen protector on it...at least 350? (after the 5 comes out)
8/8/2012 9:14:02 PM
it appears to be more like $425 or so jailbroken
8/9/2012 2:02:17 PM
is there a standardized website for jailbreak instructions? are they all the same? what are the top 5 things I need to get when I jailbreak?
8/9/2012 3:48:58 PM
make sure you backup all your stuff before you do it..jailbreak.me[Edited on August 9, 2012 at 6:44 PM. Reason : is the most common, i guess]
8/9/2012 6:44:26 PM
^^I think if you have to ask questions like that you probably shouldn't be jailbreaking your phone...
8/10/2012 10:35:38 AM
my iphone is having issues. when i search for something using the built in google search bar in safari, the results come back without formatting of any kind. it's just times new roman, links all over the place, text on top of text in places, completely fucked up. the first time it happened, i had to go clear all cookies, history, etc to make it work again. this is the 3rd time this has happened. i've also done a couple of resets (home + power button) but idk if that makes a difference. i've tried googling this problem but i haven't found my same issue anywhere yet. halp
8/10/2012 8:51:44 PM
You tried a complete system restore?
8/10/2012 8:59:23 PM
not yet. i was hoping there was some magical suggestion somebody here would have so i wouldn't have to do that. i'm backing up the phone (again) now...
8/10/2012 9:04:53 PM
I've never heard of that happening. I'd try a system restore to see if that fixes it. One thing to note: Obviously, back it up first, and then do a system restore. But before you restore from the backup, make sure it isn't still screwed up. Then if it is screwed up after you restore from backup, you will know that whatever is causing the issue was saved and restored from the backup. It sounds silly, but I had a different issue (can't even remember what it was now) and it kept coming back even after a system restore. Turns out that there was some bad data getting backed up and the only way I could fix it was to selectively restore bits and pieces from my backup. Hopefully you won't have to go through that nastiness.
8/10/2012 9:11:54 PM
mine has done it before randomly .. stopped when i jail broke it but i will tell you post jail break my messages app has crashed... a few times.
8/14/2012 8:16:27 AM
google search did that to me a few days ago, too...it's fixed now
8/14/2012 12:35:25 PM
ready for the announcement. too.... far... away
8/14/2012 12:47:22 PM
Okay, I could use some help/advice.I am moving, and I recently updated/changed my own address in my iPhone 4S. After, to make sure it worked, I checked my GoogleMaps app, and my old address showed up.After doing some digging, I took the steps to deselect my Contacts on the iPhone iCloud, wait, then re-select.When that happened, my contacts disappeared.Looking some more into it, I had to do the same thing on my laptop (MBP).Once I re-selected on my laptop, seven copies of iCloud Accounts showed up in Contacts on my MBP, and my contacts in iPhone was still blank. If I went into GoogleMaps and selected the contacts button, they all showed up. Same with the phone. Now, some of my contacts are back on my iPhone, but a lot of my addresses are missing.
8/15/2012 4:01:45 PM
Okay...this is crazy. In an attempt to restore my contacts on my iPhone, I proceeded to reset and erase. After two hours of the spinning wheel, I hard reset (lock button + home button) it. When it restarted, it was as if I never reset it.While I was waiting, I exported all of my contacts from MBP to my desktop, logged in to my icloud.com, and imported them. When the iPhone restarted, all of my contacts were there (having been taken from my iCloud).so...what I did was pointless. All because I wanted to change my own address.Quality product, Apple.
8/16/2012 11:03:19 AM
I got the gameboy case for my iphone. Now I'm embarrassed to use it in public.
