5/5/2021 7:03:22 PM
^^he's a guard named Pass, and you really don't think he'll be good? anyways, i'll go on record as saying Pass will be better than Moore...just for the hell of it
5/6/2021 6:41:14 AM
I'll bet on Booze being correct.
5/6/2021 9:47:33 AM
I bet they'll have a somewhat comparable freshman season. They'll each have their strengths and weaknesses. Some will argue that Moore had a better season. Some will argue Pass did. And we still won't know the full reason why an 18/19-year old kid decided to transfer after averaging 19 minutes his freshman season (behind a senior who averaged 25 minutes).
5/6/2021 10:00:09 AM
I’m not pretending to be in the know. But it seems like Moore probably saw a crowded backcourt and wanted to go somewhere where he could be the #1 guy...maybe there were other factors at play, I’m sure there are. And maybe I’m wrong. But it doesn’t feel like some grand mystery. And it doesn’t feel like it’s all because KK played BB more minutes.
5/6/2021 10:47:17 AM
^i certainly don't know either, but I tend to think that's more of the reasonand I'm not trying to be the "we didn't want him anyways"-guy, but if the main reason he left was because a coach started an experienced senior (that was a starter the majority of his career) over him, and played the senior an average of 6 more minutes a game.... then that's a pretty shitty reason to leave. He had talent and a lot of potential, but he wasn't close to an NBA-talent type of player, at least not yet. But i don't really don't think that was a huge factor in his decision.

Guys, somehow in this conversation it's being lost that Moore didn't just sit behind BB (an experienced senior who could shoot and contribute in the right role). He sat behind Allen too until Allen got hurt. Allen was Mr. Invisible all year and one of the most disappointing players in recent memory after him being hyped all off-season. He was a complete non-creator and he scored in double figures 3 times--all in embarrassing Ls. It's not a coincidence that our winning streak started literally the game after Allen got hurt. So yeah, if you want to blame a "crowded backcourt" as the reason why Shak left, I guess so. I would just argue that it only seemed crowded to Shak because he just got finished watching a year's worth of less talented players play in front of him. He was likely expecting more of that. That's on Keatts. I'm on the Pass's freshman year not being as good as Moore's boat too. More likely, we won't even see Pass or Smith's potential because Keatts is gonna play Allen 30 min a night. We are gonna see a steady diet of HayesAllenSeabronColeBatesWith the UVA kid, Smith, Pass and Gantt getting the rest of the minutes. Ross or Gibson will probably play some too if Bates gets in foul trouble. If that prediction is true, and he doesn't let Pass and Smith get time over Allen, then it's gonna be another long season and we may be seeing more transfers.[Edited on May 7, 2021 at 4:59 PM. This is the part where I explain that there was twitter buzz from his sitting out year that he was the best guard on the roster at practice and then you discredit the yahoos on twitter because what the fuck do they know. Fair enough. Suffice to say, there was at least some hype that Allen was a player. He was not. He was an average defender (and undersized as a two guard--especially when you are playing him alongside 5'11 BB) and he occasionally shot the 3 ball well. If that's the argument for him playing over one of the most talented players on the team and someone who was at minimum as good on defense as Allen while also being probably the best creator on offense we had last season and someone who regularly came up with big plays, then 'nuff said.
5/7/2021 8:31:45 PM
I’ll bite. I don’t remember the chatter about Allen being the best guard on the roster.
5/9/2021 8:36:41 AM
I think he must be confusing him with Seabron
5/9/2021 4:30:15 PM
Let's not let my poor memory of random twitter conversations 2 years ago detract from the overall point that it was fuckin ludicrous that Allen played as much as he did over Shak. It's clear KK has a type. He values not turning the ball over above just about anything else. And guess what? When you never even attempt to make any basketball plays, you are never in danger of turning it over. Who cares if we go on major scoring droughts because noone can do anything? Who cares if we lose the one creative playmaker we had on the team?
5/9/2021 8:19:44 PM
Ludicrous that the guy who was the second best 3 point shooter and a capable defender played over the true freshman who struggled with turnovers.
5/9/2021 9:12:24 PM
^^I hate that Shak left, I really wish he would have stayed. I think he was talented and had a lot of potential. But I think you're misremembering how he performed this year. (in addition to misremembering the "buzz" surrounding Allen) Shak had some good games, and made some incredible plays, but he was pretty inconsistent, struggled with turnovers, and had plenty of mediocre/bad games. Like you would expect from a 3 or 4 star freshman. I don't think KK treated him any differently than most coaches would have. (and that's the last I'll say about that)
5/10/2021 2:35:45 PM
He played 19 minutes a game!
5/10/2021 3:18:41 PM
Also for defense I bet none of us are breaking down games and probably most remember the excellent plays and forget the rest. For example at clemson he got the overtime forcing block...but also previously gave up the overtime forcing 3. Maybe it was 95% former and 5% latter but I just bet none of us armchair coaches can give a great read there.
5/10/2021 3:28:26 PM
My very amateur opinion is that Shak seemed like a good defender in the open court and on ball, definitely could get steals and get the team in transition. Didn’t get beat off the dribble much, generally did a good job of stopping the ball. But he also got lost at times in the half court. And yeah, I’m not breaking down film. My evidence is purely anecdotal. I’m not knocking him. He was a freshman. Growing pains are to be expected.[Edited on May 10, 2021 at 6:25 PM. Reason : Mostly just saying he’s not quite elite level on D. As a freshman. Which is fine. ]

Moore and Garrison Brooks will team up for Miss St.....who is on our schedule in a tournament with us next year[Edited on May 17, 2021 at 2:49 PM. Reason : Not sure if we'll play them? ]

Twitter rumors flying about Bates? WTF is going on over here?
5/17/2021 8:21:30 PM
If that happens, I'd assume he's going to a blue blood program like Kentucky. Although the ultimate betrayal would be transferring to UNC.]

5/18/2021 10:02:22 AM
Hearing Georgetown from sources and weirdly also Georgia Tech but might be mixing that up because it sounds similar? Who knows but this would be a big blow.
5/18/2021 10:17:46 AM
Shit, this sucks. Have to assume a bigger name school came calling. But if it’s Georgia Tech wtf man.
5/18/2021 10:21:47 AM
Once again, I liked Shak and hate that he left, but this would be a much bigger blow.
5/18/2021 10:32:27 AM
I'm hearing Beverly took Bates' minutes
5/18/2021 10:35:41 AM
^^hell if it's Georgetown it's still WTF. They were his other finalist coming out of HS so that would at least make a tiny bit of sense, but not really. College sports are almost dead to me.
5/18/2021 10:36:44 AM
More #analysis from gigs
5/18/2021 10:38:26 AM
^^ yeah def would be wtf still, but at least there may be a Pat Ewing factor that is appealing to a big man. But yeah...I don’t know that Shak is the difference in us making or missing the NCAAT. But Bates definitely is. Hell, no Bates and we probably aren’t an NIT team unless we can get some immediate impact transfer in.
5/18/2021 11:04:59 AM
The sky is falling.
5/18/2021 11:08:03 AM
I mean none of these college kids ever saw Ewing play a game.
5/18/2021 11:17:27 AM
^right. i think that was some the speculation when yurtseven went to georgetown....that he thought Ewing could get him to the NBA.seems like a stretch, i was just making wild speculation over here.sucks if he's gone (which sounds like the case, although i don't think there's been official word from the school or him)
5/18/2021 11:58:43 AM
I thought the speculation was that Yurts cousin/uncle got paid
5/18/2021 11:59:37 AM
oh...i didn't remember that, but i knew there were some tampering accusations. so yeah feel free to ignore me.
5/18/2021 12:09:47 PM
Could be a little of both!I only remembered bc of giglio:
5/18/2021 12:24:10 PM
two sources, each telling a different story#sources
5/18/2021 1:37:50 PM
Yep. This is an even worse loss than Shak. It's not hard to argue that we just lost our two best returning players in the span of a month. I don't fuckin understand why both of them waited so goddamn long in the process. Whether this one was Keatt's fault or not, I can't see this going well for him after another season missing the NCAAs which we almost certainly will. If this is the new college basketball, then I'm becoming less and less interested in it anyways. NCAA fucked up by not paying players years ago. Now the power pendulum is gonna swing way too far on the player side and there is gonna be nothing left to cheer for.

5/18/2021 9:03:10 PM
Not terribly surprising, as long as he's in school they pay for his rehab.I don't really respect him to play for us again, but if he does that's cool too.]

The freedom of movement for players is really lowering my interest level from what it used to be. Most players are only here for a year or two now, hard to keep up with.
