Two 70+ folks can run this country? I bet on Ted Cruz or Sarah Parlin.

I bet it will be newt. Trump's advisors will say all the other more practical and pragmatic choices and Trump's gonna "go with his gut" and pick newt. Since newt has gone up against the Clintons before and both campaigns can use nostalgia from the 90s.

Newt is the only one that makes sense to accept since it is basically political suicide and he doesn't really have much farther to fall

He turned down the invitation to speak at the NAACP convention happening right down the road from the Republican convention. Good move or bad? Is this some kind of subtle nod to his white supremacist supporters? Or does he just know that it won't matter, as previous candidates have attended and still lost the general.

Well I guess we can stop pretending like Supreme Court justices are politically neutral now. I'm sure everyone will be shocked by this recent revelation.

or how about when Alito "spoke" out against Obama and his words on Citizens United during a SOTU?

^^ not defending that by any means but I think it is poor form to speak out against a candidate during the election. We shouldn't have presidential candidates essentially endorsed by a Supreme Court justice.

^^ liberals and democrats were pretty unhappy with alito saying "not true" at the sotu and that seems much smaller than this

just because there isn't anything that says a supreme court justice can't make statements about a political race doesn't mean that its something that should be welcomed

There's movement on the idea that it's the Republican party pushing Gingrich so when Trump does something to get impeached, they have their oldschool (safe) Vice President.

It's happening, guys. 538 has Trump closing the gap.

Also, found this interesting. Trump is revolutionizing how campaigns are being run. More so than Obama revolutionized campaign financing in 2008.

To say that is to say that future campaigns will be ran like this, which is obviously not the case. Not everyone is going to say racist and sexist shit just to get more free time on the news.

^^ ha, there's still a huge gap. And the current polls won't capture a bernie bump, if any.

Interesting though that being exonerated by the FBI made Hillary's numbers worse. Completely counterintuitive...

^^^ To be fair, there are Trump ads being ran, but not paid for by the campaign. I've seen one by the NRA and one by a superpac so far.

The polls will always be behind the latest news but the jump he has made recently is pretty big, Nate Silver even said as much

I imagine if Clinton can survive this dip after her horrendous week last week she is in good shape. But it has been a pretty stark reversal. Curious if any of these captured Sanders endorsement?

And lol at Rasmussen again..

I think you put to much stock in our politicians. If Trump wins, there will be others who follow this strategy.

Careful, this is the same kind of thinking that occurred during the republican primary.

Considering that she has been completely skewered in the media and most of the country feels like she got preferential treatment, this shouldnt come as a surprise. But that is for another thread. In this thread we come together to hate on Trump.

Typically we would expect to see another bump in Trump's polling from the RNC. But again, with this campaign I dont know what to expect.

^^ not really. Clinton has as bad a week as you can have. She was literally called out by the head of the FBI for being untrustworthy. Was always going to fall hard in polling.

I'd be worried if this holds up through the two conventions.

Pence was his best choice. Most people don't know who he is, so it won't cause any shift in the polls. And then he can just define himself however he needs to.

Plenty of people know who he is and the fact that he signed off on that retarded bill, and then pussed out and signed the amended new version. I don't see how this helps him one bit.

So someone, possibly newt, leaked a letter where the GOP is 6 million short on convention costs.

Trump postponing his press announcement about vp pick on basis, ostensibly, of nice attack.

Trump should cut a check for the $6 million himself. He'll easily make the money back when he makes America so fucking great that we'll be tired of all the winning.

When you have to pick a running mate just in hopes of getting support of your own party you know you are in bad shape. The fact this race is even slightly up for debate shows just how awful Hillary is as well to most people. If either side could have thrown out any half decent candidate it would be over already but instead we somehow ended up with this shit show.

Scoop: @realDonaldTrump was so unsure about @mike_pence that around midnight last night he asked top aides if he could get out of it

Hopefully the leaks and now full day of reporters investigating Pence, and bloggers attacking him, will get under Trumps skin during his official announcement tomorrow.
