This literally made me laugh. A guy on my Facebook page posted a long rant about how religion shouldn't be used to pass discriminatory laws blah blah blah. This is one of the responses he got:

Quote :
"It's not a religion. It's Christianity genius. I do not have a religion but I know there is a God and he will bring his wrath down on us all for loving the sins of earth. We are a weak country worried about every ones feelings and it will be our demise"

Good to know Christianity isn't a religion

well the margin certainly surprised me, but that's probably because I'm somewhat sheltered from the morans outside the big city.

I like how many people are surprised by the results. Clearly they haven't driven through most of NC.

I'm not surprised it passed, just the margin. I was figuring high/mid 50s to low/mid 40s.

Most people haven't driven through most of NC lately, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

i love how all the "vote against" whiners are relentlessly crying on facebook about this.

it's clear the state wanted the amendment. time to move on.

Haha, what the "state" wants is irrelevant. Unfortunately, the government and the people have forgotten about that due the their religious blindness, which is precisely why church and state should not be mixing.

Because in North Carolina, some families are better than others.

Also, NC A1 is the topic on Diane Rehm today at 10am.

lady at work comes up to me today

"OMG aren't you just so mad about yesterday? I'm gonna be so pissy all day because of what happened."

Let me explain that she has been in an "common law" type marriage for like 10 years now. She is going around telling everyone how she will be affected by this.

Why get so fucking hype right now? Why the fuck weren't you out there yesterday or days before trying to educate folks? Do not come back to me today and ask how I'm doing. I couldn't even talk.

that's because the cool thing to do is publicly announce how depressed you are about how the vote turned out, and how ashamed you are to live in NC.

so what's the process of this amendment now? Does governor have any type of veto power at this point? I realize this is an amendment and not a bill so it may work differently and my law knowledge is a bit rusty.

Democracy: It's not perfect, but it's the best we have.

One day, you may wake up and realize that "Democracy" isn't something to strive for. Democracy is and has always been mob rule. It sounds good in theory, until you live in a society comprised of mostly idiots.

I'm sorry that everyone hasn't realized this, and I mean it's pretty pathetic really, but this country is not a democracy or a republic, it' a cheerocracy.

It's surprising how sheltered people on this board are. Believe it or not, you people do not represent the majority of our state (or country).

I am enjoying all the internet arguments on facebook and twitter.

Great song.

Ideally, the Constitution would protect the individual from the government, and in this case, I think it actually does with the equal protection clause. Unfortunately, we live in an age where the Constitution doesn't really matter, and basically all that is needed to pass anything is a majority vote.

I'm surprised at all the over the top reactions. I mean, nevermind the fact that there have been similar amendments passed in 30 other states, THIS ONE is the biggest deal ever for some reason.

And it seems like a lot of people didn't realize that gay marriages and civil unions were banned in this state for years prior to this amendment.

I just wish people would get as fired up about all the other fucked up shit going on in this country. People can't be bothered about innocent people getting mutilated by drones or drug offenders getting jail time, but this...this crosses the line.

Brilliant analysis, but the fact remains that people are making a huge deal out of this NC amendment, which seems odd considering it's been done 30 times before.

No, I meant on a national basis. Look at CNN comments for instance.

It's because NC is generally seen as one of the more progressive southern states, the nation doesn't know that the bible beaters run this state.

I'm just saying, the two things don't jive. Nationally we're seen as a progressive southern state, I get that, but the second a progressive initiative is shot down we're all just a bunch of dumb rednecks.
