Is there any reason not to use gapps-ics-20120207-signed.zip ?I just finally bit the bullet and installed.
2/8/2012 9:48:28 PM
i'd use that one since its newer, but i got enough people mentioning the december one in my limited research that i went with that...market works finei dont care about using the camera in ICS but no netflix is pretty weak...i appreciate what they're doing and that they have to work hard to get it working on the touchpad, but its something big to think about when considering the upgrade]
2/8/2012 10:25:16 PM
What DPI are you using? 160 looks like garbage.I'm installing CM7 on my buddy's for comparison.
2/8/2012 10:36:22 PM
I'm on 160 right now, I think my screenshot near the bottom of the previous page was on 160...installed the 120 .zip on my first install attempt, didn't have it installed enough to notice the differencethere are multiple options, but some make certain apps incompatible...DPI is screwy though, i had an icon completely disappear when i'd tilt from landscape to portrait...didnt get moved to another homescreen, just was invisible or something until you rotated back
2/8/2012 10:41:10 PM
the text just looks pixelated to me.
2/8/2012 10:59:56 PM
dammit, my touchpad is auto-installing the webos update...I think it's going to mess up my moboot/CM9 stuff, so I might need some help on getting it back right
2/12/2012 5:59:48 PM
theres a chance the install will fail like it did on minebut a friend of mine had it update with some android build on a dual boot and it didnt mess anything upi rebuilt mine from scratch last weekend though so everything is still fresh in my mind if you need assistance
2/12/2012 6:16:29 PM
ok, just did a reboot and moboot did come up so maybe it's all gravy
2/12/2012 6:54:25 PM
wait til you startup webos to see if the update installed or not
2/12/2012 6:55:39 PM
well it said the update was successful, and rebooting to webos didnt reveal any issues
2/12/2012 7:01:12 PM
i guess you're good theni still had the old original CM7 alpha on mine when i tried the WebOS update and had issues
2/12/2012 7:03:15 PM
So the guy I sold my TouchPad to keeps bugging me to help him install Android on this thing, but my desire to read up on it is just about 0. Is there a retard-proof link I can send him or something? He said he tried to do it himself but couldn't figure it out and didn't want to screw anything up. I thought it was a fairly easy process, no?
2/13/2012 8:23:32 PM
If he tried to do it himself, I'm going to assume he has the ACMEInstaller (or ACMEInstaller2 depending on the Android release) file unzipped. All he really needs to do is find out where the novacom.exe file is located on his computer (probably C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc.\) and copy the ACMEInstaller file there. Then reboot the touchpad and as soon as he sees any type of initial splash logo, hold down on the Up Volume button until you see a huge USB icon on the screen (this is while the Touchpad is connected to his computer via USB)...once he has the Touchpad in that state, Start, Run, "cmd" no quote marks to open a command prompt...CD into the directory with novacom.exe and the ACMEInstaller file and type:
novacom boot mem:// > ACMEInstaller
2/13/2012 8:31:08 PM
That's probably all over his head. I don't know how far along in the process he got, but I doubt it was too far along. I'll probably end up looking for a tutorial or something and doing it for him one of these days. I just really don't feel like taking the time to look it up. Especially when he still hasn't even paid me for the damn thing.
2/13/2012 9:01:27 PM
oh yeah, before doing all that you have to copy the actual .ZIP files to the touchpad in a new folder called 'cminstall' so that the novacom and ACMEInstaller actually have data files to work withand dweedle's youtube embed on page 18 (10/21/2011 5:17:27 PM) explains it pretty well, only thing confusing is the command line/terminal part which i enumerated in my last 2 posts[Edited on February 13, 2012 at 9:08 PM. 2/13/2012 9:06:58 PM
It can all be done from a Mac, right? I would be doing it from my Macbook. I did the whole Preware install thing before Android was an option. Is it similar to that?
2/13/2012 9:09:29 PM
yeah it can be done from a Mac, the only difference is the terminal/command line process which obviously varies from PC to Macas long as you have the touchpad's USB driver and the necessary install files it shouldnt be much of a strugglethe preware install is basically just opening the hp app and searching for preware, the physical usb connection is similar, and that suggests you have all the drivers you need[Edited on February 13, 2012 at 9:20 PM. is there an alternative browser for webos?some sites with embedded video keep saying I need to upgrade my Adobe Flash, but I don't really know how to do that for webos either
2/13/2012 9:58:12 PM
what sites?i think there is an Advanced Browser (i've seen plenty of patches for it in preware) but I haven't installed it, I figured the secure google search engine was good enoughbut i havent had problems accessing any site that i can think of, at least as far as not being able to play videos

2/16/2012 3:44:12 PM
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18843-releasealpha1-cyanogenmod-9-touchpad/Alpha 1. Hardware acceleration fixed. Still no netflix yet.
2/21/2012 2:32:41 PM
Can I just install through Clockwork Mod or do I need to do that ACMEInstaller thing if I'm coming from 0.5 to 1 ?
2/21/2012 6:06:16 PM
I flashed .6 -> 1 in recovery without problems. I have two galleries though for some weird reason.
2/21/2012 7:04:25 PM
the way i see it the only advantage of ICS so far is Chrome over Dolphin, am I missing anything else?
2/21/2012 7:06:29 PM
CM7 felt like a 9" smartphone.
2/21/2012 8:50:35 PM
i could also watch Netflix while dropping a deuce, functionality over form
2/21/2012 9:05:39 PM
I just bought Splashtop HD today (Wish I could have traded in my now useless WebOS and Standard versions). I wonder how well that would handle Netflix?
2/21/2012 10:20:41 PM
12FPS SD over wifi at best

when they get netflix fixed (confirmed), ill install and try out the new ubuntu - hopefully with ubuntu-one i can finally have streamlined access from phone to computer to tablet

How confirmed would you like it? Link starts at 10:30 into video when Netflix is started:CM9 Alpha 2 for HP Touchpadhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=PDO1Jj3NYDw#t=10m30s

no shit i'm gonna need for dweedle to confirm if it works though, he used to be someone i could trust
2/22/2012 11:34:51 AM
welp, i know what i'm doing this weekend
2/22/2012 12:02:15 PM
i'm currently on CM7 3.5 and I'm copying the CM9 Alpha 2 files to my cminstall folder as I type thisgonna try upgrading via ACMEInstaller2 per the instructions, dunno if you can do it with CWM or not but I'll report back soon assuming I have an HP Touchpad that can run both Chrome and Netflix pretty simple! watching Archer on Netflix right nowit upgraded all my apps from CM7 (including Netflix) the only thing I think I need to manually do is reinstall the newer Google Market .ZIP...i have a Market icon in my launcher but it doesn't openalso it appears my upgraded GMail doesn't work, I assume reinstalling from the new Market should fix that[Edited on February 22, 2012 at 3:10 PM. 2/22/2012 3:45:40 PM
yeah you see why i was asking about the difference a couple of weeks ago? I've gotten used to 160, but it looked like shit at first.I'll probably flash the 120 zip tonight.
2/22/2012 4:00:16 PM
120 looks like garbage on my TP for some reason?
2/23/2012 11:18:30 PM
with CM9 2.0? do the icons and homescreen text look approximately the same as my screenshot? btw, i installed the 120 .ZIP in a separate CWM install after the initial CM9 install
2/23/2012 11:24:52 PM
I've been trying to find instructions for the 120 flash. Anyone have any?
2/24/2012 11:22:55 AM
You can usehttps://market.android.com/details?id=com.birdapi.android.dpi&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5iaXJkYXBpLmFuZHJvaWQuZHBpIl0.120 is too small imo. 132 is the native PPI for Touchpad and 142 is like a perfect balance between not-huge and not-blurry.2.99 if you want to force the market to think you're using 160 or 120, but that can be done for free as well if you search rootzwiki.120 (didn't bother fixing icons for SS)142[Edited on February 24, 2012 at 11:56 AM. I'm trying to install CM9 on a friend's Touchpad and once I type the novacom command line, it just sits there, doesn't go back to a new command prompt and the touchpad just sits on the usb screen (from booting with the volume up key)...any ideas?also, if I Ctrl+C to get back to a command prompt, the file size of ACMEInstaller2 is 0 bytes and I have to copy the real 8-9 meg file back into the Palm, Inc folder[Edited on February 25, 2012 at 1:50 PM. Reason : weird]i was trying to install from his Windows 7 laptop and had this happen, figured maybe it was something in Win7...but now I'm getting the same thing when I try it on my own Vista laptop which I've used to install CM9 on a few other touchpads so I think its the touchpad itself, but i don't know why[Edited on February 25, 2012 at 1:53 PM. problem solved, i was using a > symbol instead of < in the CLI part i n00bed all over myself
2/25/2012 3:36:31 PM
So I got CM9 installed just fine. Works great. The guy I sold it to had a shit ton of pdfs stored on it before and wants to know if he can read them on the Android version now without booting back into WebOS. Is there somewhere that I can copy/move the pdfs to where they can be read from both OSes, or is it completely separate? I'm gonna try googling here is a bit, but I thought I'd post here real quick in case somebody knows right off hand.
2/25/2012 7:03:03 PM
I made a folder called 'download' on the Touchpad in WebOS USB mode, where I stored the Google Market .ZIP to eventually flash from the Droid side. You should be able to make one called 'PDFs' or something the same wayAs far as I know, if you can access it from the WebOS side (using Internalz Pro), you can access it from the Droid side since CM gives you root access.if you created a directory called PDFs in the root of the Touchpad on the WebOS side, it would be accessible on the android side at mnt\sdcard\PDFsalso I just tested, and it looks like the Adobe Reader app (android side) automatically scans every folder in the root for PDFs and lists though...i have some in mnt/sdcard and others in mnt/sdcard/download as well as mnt/sdcard/downloads (yes i have a download folder and a downloads folder for some reason)[Edited on February 25, 2012 at 7:17 PM. And stuff there would be readable from the WebOS side too?[Edited on February 25, 2012 at 7:31 PM. Reason : Like, I have no idea how the WebOS PDF viewer works. ]
