"how hard do you think it was for those guys not to pull the trigger on osama if they captured him? I'm sure as soon as they saw it was him they all wanted to be the one to do it. How many guys were on the ground there? 22 or so? I'm surprised he doesn't have 22 gunshot wounds."

I'm sure there were strong feelings, but I would think the best of our military would be capable of controlling their emotions.

how long is this stuff secret and are the guys that did it ever able to say they did it? 50 or 60 years until it is unclassified? if one of the guys that is in the team lives that long he would make some good retirement money off books/interviews

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/al-qaeda/8493391/Osama-bin-Laden-dead-Blackout-during-raid-on-bin-Laden-compound.html

Quote :
"Leon Panetta, director of the CIA, revealed there was a 25 minute blackout during which the live feed from cameras mounted on the helmets of the US special forces was cut off.
A photograph released by the White House appeared to show the President and his aides in the situation room watching the action as it unfolded. In fact they had little knowledge of what was happening in the compound.

In an interview with PBS, Mr Panetta said: "Once those teams went into the compound I can tell you that there was a time period of almost 20 or 25 minutes where we really didn't know just exactly what was going on. And there were some very tense moments as we were waiting for information.

"We had some observation of the approach there, but we did not have direct flow of information as to the actual conduct of the operation itself as they were going through the compound.""

Also, I know it's popular right now, at least in the media, to think of these guys as superhuman, but they're obviously not. No matter how good they are at what they do, I don't think you want "alright, this is being taped," in the back of their minds when they're making split second life and death decisions.

Neat, I didn't know about the drones. I think a lot of the footage being streamed to the US would have come from the helmet cams, but I have no idea on if that is even plausible.

Seems like protests in Pakistan are growing and now his hideout is becoming a place of pilgrimage. So much for that

tourist attraction or religious pilgrimage?

Both I guess. The article I was reading spelled it out better, but its a tourist attraction for obvious reasons, and Muslim supporters of bin Laden are visiting it as a shrine to him. They say he was 'their lion' and all that.

http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/wildcard_5/bin_laden/bin-laden-shrine-fears-as-tourists-flock-to-death-compound-050511

Quote :
"Pakistan officials said the compound in Abbottabad where bin Laden was shot dead Sunday already became a tourist attraction and that there were no plans to destroy the building.

"I can tell you for a fact that it will become a place of tourism," said Dr. Muhammad Azfar Nisar, the deputy civil chief of the city. "People are already coming here from as far away as Lahore to see the house, so why should we destroy the building? The more revenue, the better."

Nisar said the city might even expand to accommodate tourist demand. "I am sure some hotels will be constructed nearby the house if the military allow it," he added.

The site, No. 254, was temporarily put off-limits early Wednesday by police who secured it for a visit by military intelligence and Pakistan's secret service, but by mid-afternoon, the scene was reopened -- and crowds of civilians gathered outside.

"I've come here today to see a piece of our history," said Ahmed, 24, who brought his 11-month-old daughter with him. "Osama was a good Muslim who fought for Islam. He was a hero to us. I expect in time to see all sorts of tourists here, even Japanese and Americans."

However, others were not as impressed by the relatively-Westernized lifestyle of the al Qaeda leader.

"I had thought he would be living in a cave like a proper rebel outlaw," said 25-year-old Zulqurnain. "But instead they say he was hiding here, in a nice residential area. I'm a bit disappointed and can't believe it. Even so, I will come to visit again. Osama was our lion.""

super awesome article about Navy SEAL dogs

http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2011/05/breeders-battle-right-claim-hero-navy-seal-dog/37376/

easily one of the coolest things ever:

Quote :
"And The Daily rolls out a report with some brow-raising facts. Among them: SEAL dogs usually have their teeth replaced with "titanium fangs capable of ripping through enemy protective armor," at a cost of "about $2,000 a tooth.""

No, Navy SEAL Dogs Don’t Have Titanium Teeth

Quote :
"“It would not be possible for them to use titanium teeth to make them even more aggressive,” says Jeff Franklin, owner of Cobra Canine in Virginia Beach. “They’re not as stable as a regular tooth would be, and they’re much more likely to come out” during a biting.

The only reason to have titanium teeth? Medical reasons, he says, like “if a dog breaks a tooth… it’s the same as a crown for a human.”"

Jeff Franklin is the truth

"Feds Ask for Vigilance on Trains Based on Info from Bin Laden Compound

.....
A government advisory sent Thursday says that as far back as February 2010, al-Qaida was contemplating "an operation against trains at an unspecified location in the United States on the 10th anniversary" of the 9/11 attacks.

One option, the advisory says, was trying to tip a train by tampering with the rails so that the train would fall off the track at either a valley or on a bridge. Such an attempt would probably only work once, the material in bin Laden's house said, because tilting or tampering with the rails would be spotted, the advisory says.

If they train the dogs as much as the SEALs train, it's likely that fangs will break. Nice to know that they replace the tooth with something stronger.

"Not only are these dogs fierce assault weapons, they are loyal guardians. When Private First Class Carlton Rusk was shot after his unit came under Taliban sniper fire during a routine patrol in Afghanistan, Rusk's bomb-sniffing dog, Eli, crawled on top of his body, attacking anyone -- including Rusk's fellow Marines -- who tried to come near him. Rusk did not survive the assault, but Eli was granted early retirement so he could live with Rusk's family."

Wired says the dogs are not given titanium teeth to make them more effective at biting. the dogs that do have metal teeth have the equivalent of a dental crown for hu-mans

A warning has been issued for railways.

This comes from information gathered from the laptops, thumbdrives, HDD's, etc... taken from the compound during the raid
