I agree. the first original sounding (even if they borrow things from others) breakout band in the last year or two imo. (there's been a lot of great records in the last two years, just not too many new exciting bands)

wow, giving the rip tide my first listen. this is great.[Edited on July 14, 2011 at 5:36 PM. Reason : goshen is going to get about a million listens in the next week, if i had to guess]

7/14/2011 7:15:12 PM
cheveu's 1000 is the best, most original record i've heard all year. check that shit out, tschuds.
7/14/2011 7:30:54 PM

7/14/2011 8:03:36 PM
Still trying Wu Lyf. It's becoming more enjoyable...but not my favorite thing of the year by any means.Washed Out however...HOLY FUCK I can't get enough. It sounds like if The Antlers got laid. Just played it straight on loop driving from Asheville to Raleigh. Totally amazing...
7/14/2011 11:00:03 PM
i thought washed out was oki mean it was enjoyablemy chill wave might have come and gone though
7/14/2011 11:18:36 PM
so Rilo Kiley broke up..
7/18/2011 8:18:21 AM
i thought the washed out was okay as well.i'm not a big fan of many of the bands in that sub-genre, but as far as "those bands" go, i thought it was a hell of a lot better than the last two Cut Copy records. (.... awaits backlash....)
7/18/2011 8:49:18 AM
^^Well, fortunately for you, Jenny Lewis is in 800 other bands that sound the same, so you should be able to deal with it...
7/18/2011 12:31:03 PM
I like the John Maus record. just realized we had a promo of it and listened to it for the first time today. good synth pop.
7/18/2011 12:41:58 PM
^^don't worry, i wasn't reeling from the news.
7/18/2011 1:14:37 PM
Digging the new Portugal. The Man
7/18/2011 9:19:55 PM
^ wasn't paying 100% attention to it earlier at work, but it seemed like a lot of songs sounded too similar. probably need to give it another shot.
7/18/2011 9:31:51 PM
7/19/2011 12:12:29 AM
what are some good upbeat albums that came out this year? ive been listening to too much post rock
7/19/2011 4:29:03 PM
7/19/2011 5:11:46 PM
cut copy >>> washed out
7/19/2011 6:46:23 PM
Cut Copy is pretty annoying.[Edited on July 19, 2011 at 7:27 PM. Reason : .]
7/19/2011 7:26:04 PM
I honestly don't understand how someone couldn't enjoy a song as big and catchy as "Lights & Music," "Hearts on Fire," or "So Haunted." I'm curious to hear what you think is annoying about them.
7/19/2011 7:43:11 PM
i like cut copy and washed out and find it hard(er) to compare the two since i don't find them THAT similarbut yea i agree w/ ^that ^ cut copy album was SO freaking catchy and their cradle show (2? years ago?) was really really REALLY fun. fun fun fun. will def see them again.washed out at hopscotch last year was just kinda meh to me. i REALLY liked the first washed out. this one is fine, too it just isn't an "omg my fav" type of deali would feel more comfortable comparing washed out to toro y moi and i think i would vote toro on that. i do like both a lot though.[Edited on July 19, 2011 at 10:24 PM. 7/19/2011 10:20:03 PM
i like washed out recordsi have no desire to see washed out livesame goes for toro y moi on both counts
7/20/2011 4:14:42 AM
so um music of 2011 is cool.[Edited on July 20, 2011 at 9:58 AM. Reason : wrong thread]

The first Washed Out meaning the High Times EP?
7/20/2011 10:35:53 AM
yall discussin the merits of some boring shit. i already told you that cheveu's 1000 is the best release of the year (even though it may have come out last year). what's the second best release you may ask? why it's the reissue of destroyer's ideas for songs, of course! and the brain f record is going to rule a ton.
7/20/2011 10:38:41 AM
Destroyer pretty much sucks.
7/20/2011 10:57:28 AM
so wrong. it's easily as good as thief or city of daughters. it's pretty much all i've listened to for the past week. something new every time. now that first destroyer record is pretty spotty...
7/20/2011 11:13:29 AM
whatever.
7/20/2011 11:17:11 AM
good argument, mr scrumples. bringing the heat as always.
7/20/2011 11:18:52 AM
I really slept on that CFCF - Continent album. so good. /music of 2k9and here's a RS article on Megafaun's new album http://bit.ly/riSzL4also I am selfishly hoping the Future Islands album leaks before Hopscotch[Edited on July 20, 2011 at 1:55 PM. Reason : ]

the new Girls tune 'Vomit' is goooooood.http://stereogum.com/764551/girls-vomit/mp3s/i think Girls is one of the most exciting, dynamic bands out there right now. don't let their pitchfork/ hipster cred scare you off. i'm stoked about seeing them live in philly in september
7/20/2011 7:13:51 PM
7/20/2011 7:53:30 PM
i tried the new Washed Out but it sounds like boring Neon Indian
7/20/2011 9:22:36 PM
Not sure I could care less about the negative opinions people have of albums I like, so I'll not be sharing my negative opinions anymore.Unless it's something completely stupid like Bon Iver...[Edited on July 21, 2011 at 10:08 AM. Reason : k]
7/21/2011 10:08:15 AM
while i normally agree i did make sure to suggest that if you like something a little more upbeat there is another similar artist, not sure if your comment was aimed at mine or not but in general if someone says they hate something i usually just mutter "yeah well i hate you" under my breath lol
7/21/2011 4:17:11 PM
^holy run-on sentence
7/21/2011 4:23:09 PM

enjoying the new Opeth song. Reminds me of King Crimson.
7/26/2011 7:43:22 PM
The War on Drugs is pretty okay.
7/27/2011 10:17:05 AM
^there are a few standout tracks, but the whole thing didn't immediately grab me like i thought it would. will give it a few more spins though.
7/27/2011 5:04:30 PM
I can kind of agree with that... as an album I think it works really well together but I also don't feel like there's too many tracks that jump out as being better than others (Blackwater excluded, that song rules)
