I agree. the first original sounding (even if they borrow things from others) breakout band in the last year or two imo. (there's been a lot of great records in the last two years, just not too many new exciting bands)

I love Beirut

and I used to love The National when I was a heaping emotional mess circa 2005 or so

but damn, I bet that show was an absolute snoozefest.

Still trying Wu Lyf. It's becoming more enjoyable...but not my favorite thing of the year by any means.

Washed Out however...HOLY FUCK I can't get enough. It sounds like if The Antlers got laid. Just played it straight on loop driving from Asheville to Raleigh. Totally amazing...

i thought the washed out was okay as well.

i'm not a big fan of many of the bands in that sub-genre, but as far as "those bands" go, i thought it was a hell of a lot better than the last two Cut Copy records. (.... awaits backlash....)

^^Well, fortunately for you, Jenny Lewis is in 800 other bands that sound the same, so you should be able to deal with it...

^ wasn't paying 100% attention to it earlier at work, but it seemed like a lot of songs sounded too similar. probably need to give it another shot.

I wouldn't really put Cut Copy in the same sub-genre as Washed Out. I guess they're both vaguely electronic-leaning, but Cut Copy's sound is a lot bigger and poppier than Washed Out's to me.

I honestly don't understand how someone couldn't enjoy a song as big and catchy as "Lights & Music," "Hearts on Fire," or "So Haunted." I'm curious to hear what you think is annoying about them.

i like cut copy and washed out and find it hard(er) to compare the two since i don't find them THAT similar

but yea i agree w/ ^

that ^ cut copy album was SO freaking catchy and their cradle show (2? years ago?) was really really REALLY fun. fun fun fun. will def see them again.

washed out at hopscotch last year was just kinda meh to me. i REALLY liked the first washed out. this one is fine, too it just isn't an "omg my fav" type of deal

i would feel more comfortable comparing washed out to toro y moi and i think i would vote toro on that. i do like both a lot though.

yall discussin the merits of some boring shit. i already told you that cheveu's 1000 is the best release of the year (even though it may have come out last year). what's the second best release you may ask? why it's the reissue of destroyer's ideas for songs, of course! and the brain f record is going to rule a ton.

I really slept on that CFCF - Continent album. so good. /music of 2k9

and here's a RS article on Megafaun's new album http://bit.ly/riSzL4

also I am selfishly hoping the Future Islands album leaks before Hopscotch

i think Girls is one of the most exciting, dynamic bands out there right now. don't let their pitchfork/ hipster cred scare you off. i'm stoked about seeing them live in philly in september

Not sure I could care less about the negative opinions people have of albums I like, so I'll not be sharing my negative opinions anymore.

Unless it's something completely stupid like Bon Iver...

while i normally agree i did make sure to suggest that if you like something a little more upbeat there is another similar artist, not sure if your comment was aimed at mine or not but in general if someone says they hate something i usually just mutter "yeah well i hate you" under my breath lol

I can kind of agree with that... as an album I think it works really well together but I also don't feel like there's too many tracks that jump out as being better than others (Blackwater excluded, that song rules)
