i want to find someone who will turn the old handle into a ink pen or two. i use a pen at my job way more than a hammer, so i think it'd be cool to make my living with something that he used to make his living for so many years.

Putting up a 3 panel treated horse fence next week. Gonna try and post a before and after if I can remember...

Finally put our 55" TV on the wall above the fireplace. Don't really use the fireplace for wood burning (will prob convert it to natural gas at some point). We have a recessed area for a TV, but the screen size was too big. So we had it sitting in front of it on a media center chest. Thought I might have difficulty finding studs with wood paneling & a fireplace/chimney to contend with, but luckily ran into no issues.

Now with no need for a TV stand, we shoved it off to the side and rearranged the furniture so our living room feels a bit more spacey than it did.

What kind of mount did you get. It's usually too steep if an angle having it above the fireplace. I mounted my TV up there with a fully articulating mount similar to the mantel mount (but much cheaper).

I built a small "addition" on to our our door HVAC apparatus to hold our paddleboards. 15' L x 3' H x 2' W. Used two by fours and some thick plywood. Need to fill in some small gaps with possibly flashing? As well as stain and maybe paint it so it doesn't rot in a year. Might post some pictures, but it looks better than I thought considering I was cutting the wood on patio chairs and bricks. I think this is the extent of what I can do with a just a drill and circular saw.

Our outside HVAC unit had to be raised because we're in a flood zone. Our contractor ended up raising it higher than required to about 7 feet, creating a nice little storage area underneath. So it's about 10 feet long, four feet wide, and 7 feet high. Right now we have left over construction materials and paint...but I plan on putting in some weather barrier and storing our bikes in it at some point.

But we also have a 14' and 11'6" paddleboards. Obviously the "apparatus" wasn't long enough to hold them, so I built and attached a storage unit to it.

^ You assumed correctly. Once I put a door on this thing, I'll get a picture up. It looks better than it did halfway through. Shit was looking pretty mangled...but I made some adjustments and "straightened it out" towards the end. Still not perfect, but I don't have saw horses or anything that helps lessen the margin of area on these types of projects.

i bought my mower used from the city of Southport. it apparently spent a lot of time in sandy areas because the deck was thin in many areas and even had some holes. the city garage had already patched a few spots on it. i did some pretty extensive patching, then painted the whole thing and replaced the spindles.

maybe it's not clear in the pic, but those are lap joints. i didn't cut out holes and weld the patches in flush. they sit on top of the original metal. so i could never grind them completely flush.

pretty much done. got a couple more additions i'm thinking about making before paint. ordered some different casters. all 4 of the new ones will swivel and have a brake. they will also be an inch or two shorter overall.

ordered a 6" forged steel yost vise to put on it. gonna put it on a separate little piece of plate that will stick off the side of the table with a support kicked out at 45 deg to support it.

finally got some primer and paint on it, but the store only had 2 cans of what i wanted to use. gotta find some more and then i'll post final pics. added a couple hooks made from u-bolts for hanging leads or whatever, zinc coated bolts welded to two of the legs for a place to clamp my ground (taped these off before paint), and a piece of 3/4" round stock along one side for hanging clamps. also going to mount a duplex receptacle on each corner so i'll just have to plug in a single drop cord and then i can plug in grinders, portaband, etc. should be pretty sweet.

Finally finished replacing my 15 year old tanked water heater and b-vent with a rinnai tankless and concentric vent. total bitch of an install because the original vent actually left my garage went into my neighbor's attic and through his roof (our garages share a back wall). Wasted $60 in shipping/returning the original pvc vent setup I had, but it's all better now.

i haven't found anyone who wants to try. the handle has some splits and it makes everyone nervous, but i think there is a big enough piece in there for a pen. still thinking about it. tossed around the idea of making it into a bottle opener handle, but seems kinda lame.

Post some pics of the handle, and specifically a few of the splits.

Typically you can drizzle thin epoxy into the checks/splits and once cure it can be turned just fine. I usually tint the epoxy so it just looks more wood-like.

I'm more than happy to consult and if you wanna take a gamble on it I'm happy to give it a shot.

What I may suggest, depending on the size of the handle - if it's a typical normal claw hammer handle, there should be more than enough material there to cut it in half. With the bottom (fatter) half, you should probably have enough material to make at least 2 pens. If both of those get screwed up somehow due to the splits or whatever, then you have the other half of the handle to make a bottle opener or something else.

I covered up the "cubby" (giant hole, actually) over the fireplace originally designed to accommodate old tube TVs. I ended up doing shiplap and made the bottom slat removable (held up via magnets) to provide easy access to all the plugs, wires, antenna, xbox, etc. Ended up looking pretty nice, is quite functional, and was a hell of a lot easier than drywalling over it. I'll try to get some photos once the wifey is done painting it.
