one thing about the packaging I noticed right off hand is that Apple skimped out on the microfiber screen wipe that came with every iPhone, laptop, LCD monitor i've purchased from them.
4/3/2010 11:38:00 AM
^ I've got about 500 of them in my office at work if you want one.
4/3/2010 11:41:53 AM
does the back look like it would get scratched really easily? Like the back of an ipod?
4/3/2010 11:49:03 AM
No moreso than the case of a standard MacBook pro nowadays... it's solid, brushed metal, not the same material they're using on current iPod Touches.
4/3/2010 11:51:49 AM
finally all synced up. my first reaction is that the typing while holding the device in one hand felt so natural. I didn't even think about it...but this might also be due to the fact that I'm used to the iPhone.
4/3/2010 11:57:24 AM
Might have to get one in the next few weeks. I think i can live with the wifi only model without GPS. I've got an iPhone if i need to know my exact position and google maps still works on the iPad. Not to mention i can tether the iPad to my iPhone for internet anywhere. I'm wondering how easy it will be to convert e-pub books over to the iPad ibook standard. I know there's apps like Stanza, but the Apple one looked so cool.
4/3/2010 12:16:53 PM
So they have one on display?
4/3/2010 2:12:28 PM
At the Apple Stores? Yeah, they should. Probably not at Best Buy.
4/3/2010 2:16:03 PM
Just walked into the apple store and got Azaka his iPad. They still have a bunch, no lines but it's crowded. Also I just noticed it has native spell check.
4/3/2010 2:31:20 PM
I would wait until version 2 comes out. Remember the original iPhone? Then a year later, the Iphone 3g came out?
4/3/2010 2:41:14 PM
it amazes me that people havent learned to wait for V2not only do they fix any problems that they may have missed in testing but its usually cheaper (albeit because of all the idiots who already made them their money on the 1g)
4/3/2010 2:48:22 PM
I too have to say that I'm a little baffled they didn't wait til 4G came out this summer to release it, I guess 3G is fast enough.... but you know it's coming.
4/3/2010 3:14:26 PM
Does this thing not charge plugged into a pc? Read a tweet that it only charges when connected to a mac. Can't imagine that's true
4/3/2010 3:22:35 PM
^^^ what? The technology is going to improve no matter what. Why wait forever? Most issues from here on will be software, until new networks emerge wide scale. You don't wait for the next big thing if this big thing already addresses your problem.^ apple wouldn't have released it with a problem like that.

some usb ports are very underpowered.. that might be an issue but i dunnonvm lol[Edited on April 3, 2010 at 4:04 PM. Reason : asdf]
4/3/2010 4:03:58 PM
Looks like it's some USB ports don't offer enough power. http://i.tuaw.com/2010/04/03/consumer-reports-discovers-ipad-charging-issues/http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060
4/3/2010 4:05:35 PM
Just picked one up. Still at the mall so I can't crack into it yet
4/3/2010 4:46:34 PM
wonder if crabtree is sold out?
4/3/2010 5:09:53 PM
Caved and bought a 32gb at bestbuyWalked in, picked one up no problemPretty awesome......posting from it now
4/3/2010 5:18:14 PM
how's the keyboard working for everyone?
4/3/2010 5:21:55 PM
would definitely suggest getting a case. Helps with the angle and slickness. Keyboard is ok, just have to get used to it, can type a lot faster on my iphone than I can on here so far. The newspaper apps are particularly nifty
4/3/2010 5:25:19 PM
what the fuck why
4/3/2010 5:26:29 PM
?
4/3/2010 5:28:59 PM
Nothing, I just thought no one was buying this.I'm pretty ignorant on the ipad subject, other than the failure at competing with nook and kindle aspect.
4/3/2010 5:35:55 PM
^lol what?
4/3/2010 5:56:30 PM
4/3/2010 5:59:08 PM
Abc app is really cool...especially since I'm dropping cable
4/3/2010 6:03:40 PM
If you have netflix check that out too. It's really cool. Also I am finding typing on this thing is a breeze in most positions. Typing in landscape with two hands is a heck of a lot faster then on the iPhone and almost as fast as a standard keyboard. I was skeptical about it before trying it out for myself but now Im convinced.
4/3/2010 6:17:10 PM
4/3/2010 6:18:18 PM
Is it that they don't care? Or don't have another option?
4/3/2010 6:34:59 PM
Personely I don't care. I'd take convenience over resale.
4/3/2010 6:44:04 PM
This thing is pretty nifty. Im typing on it like a regular keyboard instead of all index finger like i do the iPhone. Plants vs zombies is a must have on this thing. Netflix app is amazing
4/3/2010 6:51:49 PM
So now that I have this and a kindle....This thing is way heavy, will definitely be reading on the kindle for sure
4/3/2010 6:56:14 PM
Will you need it with the 3g?
4/3/2010 7:04:42 PM
Do the kindles and the likes have web browsers? From reading the CNN article about the iPad it sounded Like they did.
4/3/2010 7:16:34 PM
Not really no. Kindle is more a dedicated e-reader. I'm sure i'd do light reading/news articles on an iPad, but i'd still use my e-reader for extended reading. LCDs just don't cut it for reading.
4/3/2010 7:52:19 PM
I'd really like to check out one of these e-ink devices for comparison because i find it easy to read on this display so it's hard for me to imagine what could be better. Not that I don't doubt it though just haven't experienced it yet.
4/3/2010 7:59:38 PM
^First of all how much do you actually read? Like a book a week? A month? If you only casually read the news and maybe a book every now and then it won't matter so much to you. In regard to comparing an LCD to an e-book reader. Just pick up a paperback book and compare that to an iPad. An e-ink display pretty much looks like a paperback book. My Sony e-reader is actually clearer than some of my older paper backs (ink fades over time). Now if you think reading on a back-lit LCD is easier than reading a paperback book then there's something wrong with your eyes. But i promise you reading on an e-ink display is much easier and more pleasant than reading on an LCD. My eyes just start to water after too long reading on an LCD (i have better than perfect version in both eyes and tried using my iPhone to read. Didn't cut it) but then again i do read a lot.

Did anyone get the apple case? If so, how do you like it?
4/3/2010 8:38:16 PM
4/3/2010 9:08:00 PM
I quite like the apple case tho it is a bitch to get the damn thing out of it. I also hate letting other people use it now. I have VERY dry fingers to the point where I don't even leave fingerprints behind on the glass and it's annoying as hell when I get it back and I can feel the oil from the other person touching it.
4/3/2010 11:37:32 PM
4/3/2010 11:39:25 PM
Man, safari flies on this thing. Very fast
4/4/2010 1:18:37 AM
i wish, i wish, i wish Apple would get the message about multitasking. i wouldn't need a laptop if the iPad would just multitask. can't i just have IM open in the background, please?
4/4/2010 1:20:23 AM
Seems to be the biggest rumor buzzing around for 4.0.While I can live without it for AIM (thanks to PUSH) it would be great for Pandora. If they do go multitasking route I hope they implement expose functionality.
4/4/2010 1:25:56 AM
My biggest thing for that on the iPhone are damn text messages. I get a TON for both work and personal during the day. Annoying as shit to have to exit out of apps to answer.
4/4/2010 1:29:03 AM
Not sure if this has been posted yet...interesting read on the iPad as a productivity tool.http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/03/entelligence-the-ipad-as-a-productivity-tool/
4/4/2010 1:42:15 AM
I'd really love adblock for mobile Safari.
