Tulsa at Notre Dame? why? [Edited on October 25, 2010 at 2:44 PM. Reason : ]

A non traditional match-up of a decent mid-major with a shot to beat a traditional giant of the sport. Mostly, just something different that could be entertaining.

Shoulda picked the over for tonightThis game will be in the 50s or 60s
10/25/2010 3:32:47 PM
of the 3 new games you mentioned, I think only mich/psu is at all compelling. Other two are games b/w .50 teams that also have no bearing on conf races. Mich is only compelling bc of robinson. Rivalry/tradition doesn't save fla/uga, can't figure out why tul/nd is even an option.my $.02[Edited on October 25, 2010 at 3:57 PM. Reason : notre dame hasn't been a "giant" in decades]

yeah, Florida/UGA should definitely be on there... always an entertaining game, two big rivals, very intriguing spread, teams have gone in completely different directions since the start of the year, winner still has a shot at the East if South Carolina slips, which they always do
10/25/2010 4:17:25 PM
Historically (I use the term lightly since this is only our second season of doing this) we have gone with nationally televised games. The all-ranked games (MSU/Iowa, Miz/Neb) should be a given. The other two games should come from the following based on rankings and coverage, with my votes in bold:FSU/NCSUUF/UGAOregon/USCOSU/MinnThis would give us one matchup from each of the SEC, Big-10, Big-12, and Pac-10.
10/25/2010 6:16:02 PM
ya def not ohio state/minn, i would rather have penn state/michbut jaybee's sec affiliation's paint his desire for florida/uga. why not replace that w/ a non-bcs conf game for once? we always pick major conference matchups, why not make us step out of comfort zones and pick games we dont know as well?

Can we get a lineup posted tonight? I'm still on the fence about making FSU/NCSU a wildcard pick but it depends on what's on the list for the week.

10/27/2010 12:00:38 AM
just my opinion, but in addition to MNF and SNF, I think we should do Thursday night college ball, IF its two D1-A opponents...but thats just me
10/27/2010 3:38:02 AM
Thursday presents a problem because half the people don't make their picks till Friday and have to scramble and make "oh shit" picks for the Thursday games. When the NFL starts Thursday games in a few weeks, we'll have to reevaluate.
10/27/2010 8:59:48 AM
^^ Granted, last week and this week could have been on the card, but rarely is the Thursday game good enough to deserve a pick. You don't want to potentially sacrifice a game of national importance for USF/West Virginia.

ribs, do you not use opening lines? Seems like using lines that have already moved for the common picks is a little weird. I saw your lines and was going to ask how uga -3 was intriguing, then I saw it opened at -1.5.
10/27/2010 5:47:00 PM
I don't use opening lines. I use the number that's there after the line settles. It's unrealistic to use opening lines because no one can actually get that number with a book. I'd rather us handicap lines that the actual public has to bet against instead of the number that .06% of all the bettors out there actually get. Just my opinion.[Edited on October 27, 2010 at 5:55 PM. Reason : grammar]
10/27/2010 5:51:27 PM
ya I actually just looked at the site you use and they claim -3 as the open anyway.
10/27/2010 5:57:11 PM
I actually use the free odds page on SportsInsights.com, I just put up SaO on the other challenge because you don't have to create an account to access it.
10/27/2010 6:00:27 PM
Ribs, how bout doing separate columns for each user's record in college vs NFL, day games, night games, and games on ESPN, CBS, FOX, NBC or Versus. Thanks, you're doing a great job.
10/27/2010 6:02:35 PM
lol I actually did consider going back to see how people did on College vs NFL handicapping. That might be something for offseason boredom though. You should go ahead and confirm your invite into the basketball challenge.
10/27/2010 6:06:21 PM
The only splits I would like to see are how everyone does solely on wildcard picks.
10/27/2010 9:14:23 PM
10/27/2010 9:23:40 PM
Pretty sure I went 5-5 last week, giving me a 33-41 record.
10/28/2010 12:25:46 AM
You're right, sorry about the miscalculation. In the future, if everyone would repost their picks at week's end with a W or L out beside them it would make it a whole lot easier to update the standings.COMMON PUSHES: 61.Ribs 41-31-22.DalCowboys 40-343.rwoody 35-30-3 4.bdmazur 38-365.stillrolling 37-376.Slave Famous 33-40-1NyM410 33-40-18.TreeTwista10 33-41billyboy 33-4110.Jaybee1200 31-41-211.dzags18 31-4312.AC Slater 30-4313.hey now 30-4414.SchndlrsFist 26-46-2[Edited on October 28, 2010 at 10:29 AM.
