I'm not really a big fan of spiced beers, but this one is always an exception:It's kind of like drinking a christmas tree, but in a good way.

11/14/2010 10:00:01 PM
^^i had some 2010 this week, just hit the shelves. def. a classic.
11/14/2010 10:59:47 PM
My first legal beer was a Rogue XS Imperial Stout...that was amazing, though a bit heartyRight now nothing too exciting, Sam Adams winter until I can get back to the store to try some new ones.
11/15/2010 12:26:01 AM
I wish I could say my first beer was a Rogue... lol.
11/15/2010 1:23:14 AM
I won a sweet Sierra Nevada 30th anniversary t shirt at the Busy Bee last night, and I scored a six pack of this at the store tonight:

Now THAT is a classy beer. Do want.

GOD I LOVE THE CHARLESTON BEER EXCHANGE.They always put a new beer on tap for growlers every Tuesday. They're constantly changing their beers on tap, but they usually try to get something really rare for Tuesdays (hence the name, Rare Beer Tuesday). So I get the email yesterday and it's this:
11/17/2010 5:10:10 PM
mmmm sour patch kidsshe should have gotten it anyways

^^^^ I had Sam Adams Utopias at the GABF this year, granted it was only 1 oz. but it was goooooooood. Not sure I'd pay the $499 per bottle though. Also the Infinium isn't on the shelves yet, though rumor has it -- it will be at month's end.I love Weihenstephan, not a big fan of Boston Beer Co.[Edited on November 17, 2010 at 6:48 PM. Reason : .]

11/17/2010 6:55:31 PM
^^I thought the Utopias were going for $150, still really expensive but $499 is pretty insane. Also I think some of Sam Adams seasonals/special releases are pretty good (Imperial Pilsner, Long Shot, Latitude 48, Noble Pils, etc.), and while I'm not not a huge fan of their regular lineup it's still worlds better than macro lagers.
11/17/2010 7:26:19 PM
i need some Anchor Steam Christmas Ale!
11/18/2010 11:34:13 AM
^^the last I saw when my brother was looking into getting a bottle of it for the two of us, it was 200 bucks... 499 seems reeeallly steep (haha well so does 200 to be honest)^Bryan and Mark would both roll their eyes at that... I have nothing wrong with "steam" beers (usually can't even tell the difference), but they sure do[Edited on November 18, 2010 at 11:39 AM. Reason : =]
11/18/2010 11:37:56 AM
the only steam beer in Anchor's lineup is Anchor Steam itself. The rest are not.
11/18/2010 11:46:49 AM
I was pretty sure that they were all "steam" beers, as they don't use any cool factor (ice) in the brewing process (they were the company to trademark steam beers fwiw)
11/18/2010 11:54:26 AM
No, Jeep's right, the only steam beer is the Anchor Steam.A "steam beer" or California common beer is where lager yeast is fermented at ale temperatures (because of the lack of refrigeration in the 19th century) and has a unique taste to it, hence why it has it's own style. Technically I think it's an amber lager if it were fermented at lager temperature. There other lagers are not fermented this way. They also brew ale's like the Christmas Ale which clearly aren't steam beers.[Edited on November 18, 2010 at 12:57 PM. Reason : .]
11/18/2010 12:48:23 PM
I like steam beers. It's Mark and Paul who don't...
11/18/2010 12:50:30 PM
I love winter. Winter/fall beers are so much better than summer
11/18/2010 12:52:46 PM
Went to the Fair Lakes Whole Foods (the mid-Atlantic flagship store)...freaking awesome. Picked up some Southern Tier Black IPA and Williamsburg AleWorks Pumpkin. They had a bunch of awesome stuff not available in NC. Was tempted to pick up the magnum of Anchor Christmas Ale They also have growler fills, this week is all the SN Anniversary Ales.

Nothing special just a variety of Sam Adams from their winter classic 12 pack
11/20/2010 9:30:38 PM
This year's version of:is really fucking good, easily my favorite of the 3 years I've tried. I've also got a bottle of Lucky Bastard (blend of Arrogant Bastard, Oaked Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard) that I'm saving for a post-Charleston Classic victory celebration
11/21/2010 12:45:46 AM
^yea, I just had all of the bastard ales on tap this weekend. There's a place called Freshcraft http://freshcraft.com/ downtown Denver and they have the Arrogant, Double & Lucky all on tap. All excellent.

Do any of you guys happen to know if any local breweries are willing to bill up a corny keg? Finding one is harder than i thought after calling a few... thanks.
11/23/2010 9:29:06 PM
i don't have a direct answer, but it may not be a common thing due to sanitization and other issues that could be a concern. However, you may have better luck at a smaller brew pub or something like Natty Greene's over a full fledged brewery. But i'd guess no either way. Why not just buy a full keg from the brewery?
11/24/2010 9:38:18 AM
Now in stock.
11/25/2010 9:22:49 PM
I had the Anchor Christmas Ale yesterday for the first time. I definitely enjoyed it. It was different, but good. And I'm working on a Rogue Chocolate Stout now. Not great, but not bad, imo. There are better chocolate stouts and definitely better Rogue beers.
11/26/2010 6:50:14 PM
It's very expensive (10.99 a sixer at Total) but it's a good beer. Definite ginger taste in this year's batch as has been stated. This was the first year I've had it.Saucer has 1.5 liter bottles of the 2009 and 2010 Anchor Christmas for $26... crazy.
11/26/2010 6:52:38 PM
^^their Double Chocolate Stout is much much better. It's quite amazing.I've been drinking several seasonals this weekend. Bell's Christmas Ale and SN Celebration. Both good, but not stellar this season. Terrapin Moo Hoo which is a Chocolate Milk Stout has been on the rotation pretty heavily as well. It's very good. There are several more but I can't remember what else i've had.
